mrhatchgood morning, I am having an issue with logging in to boxes that are created by maas.13:51
mrhatchI have generated my ssh keys and added them to the maas user profile but when I try to log in I am prompted for a password for the ubuntu user13:52
mrhatchis there a requirement for a certain type of ssh key? or size?13:52

mupBug #1434709 changed: Node failed to successfully commission <MAAS:Confirmed> <https://launchpad.net/bugs/1434709>14:08
mrhatchas long as I am asking newb questions, is there something that needs to be done to make reverse lookups work?14:20
kikomrhatch, no, it should work out of the box14:21
kikomrhatch, hmm, with ssh, that's odd to say the least14:21
kikomrhatch, you added the keys before installing the node right?14:21
kikoif you change the keys later that doesn't get propagated to the existing nodes14:22
mrhatchII did add the keys before installing the node14:28
mrhatchkiko, it seems to be hit or miss.  I have rebuilt the maas server several times and twice it has worked and three times it hasn't14:29
mrhatchI have tried just key-gen -t rsa14:29
mrhatchand it didn't work14:30
mrhatchalways prompts me for a password14:30
mrhatchI am going to tear down the server and start from scratch and document everything after the install disk ejects and see if I can figure out what I am doing wrong14:35
kikomrhatch, oh, are you using 1.5 or 1.7?14:43
mrhatchI am guessing it is 1.7, but I am not sure  it is whatever is on the current 14.04.1 distro disk14:44
kikoit's 1.5 for the moment14:45
kikounfortunately14:45
kikoyou should install 1.7 from the PPA14:45
kikowe are working on the update14:45
mrhatchdo you think that could be part of the problem?14:45
kikoyes14:45
mrhatchI should be able to upgrade without killing the whole machine right?14:45
kikoyes, but purging might be harder than it looks14:46
mrhatchcould that also be the reason I am having difficulty with the reverse dns lookups?14:46
kikoi.e. really purge /var/lib/maas /etc/maas14:46
mrhatchso probably better to do a generic 14.04 install and then add the maas packages?14:47
kikoit will be more straightforward14:47
kikobut we can help you either way14:47
kikomrhatch, how many nodes will you be controlling, out of curiosity?14:47
mrhatchhopefully I will be able to get back to this in the late afternoon or early evening...I am at the customer site and the machines are at home14:48
kikogotcha14:48
kikoyou are using maas for your customer?14:48
mrhatchI am exploring the use of maas and juju for deploying to bare metal.  Our customer requires bare metal installations, the only thing that is scaring me is juju needing an intialization server for each config you want to maintain14:49
mrhatchwe want to get into that business model.  We develop web applications for various federal customers and they are still cloud phobic14:50
mrhatchI would like to be able to add 2-3 servers and configure them using maas and juju for each particular contract we have.  Sometimes it is apache, django and mysql on two servers14:51
mrhatchother times it might be tomcat and mysql on a single server instance14:51
mrhatchsince the data center is over an hour away, it would be nice to have someone who lives closer install hardware in the rack and then be able to remotely configure and test14:52
