sgclarksitter_: was going to run the new RC for applications so that would be unstable.. ? 00:18
sgclarkI fixed up the gem script with the appropriate values. but it barfed on missing git module00:18
sitter_yeah you have to twiddle the script code 00:19
sitter_switch kubuntu_stable to kubuntu_unstable and plasma/ to applications/00:19
sgclarkyep did that00:19
sitter_sgclark: gem install git00:19
sgclarkall good there, how on earth do I install modules with rvm ruby00:19

Riddelllittlegirl: that seems very exact, have you tried Plasma 5?00:34
littlegirlYes, it's ghastly! I'm happy for those of you who like it, but it's much too much of a departure from what I love. I'm an old fashioned girl who just wants a panel and a tray and a little menu and a desktop with pretty pictures and icons on it. (:00:35
littlegirlI'll leave the Kubuntu help pages I have on my blog up, though, and will just be adding MATE ones to it. (:00:37
soeelittlegirl: it has panel, systray, little menu and you can place icons on desktop http://wstaw.org/m/2015/03/27/workspace20.png :D00:45
soeeoh there are first announcements http://www.omgubuntu.co.uk/2015/03/download-ubuntu-15-04-beta-release00:47
littlegirlsoee: Oh, that looks much nicer than the default installation. Can you put that bar at the bottom?00:49
littlegirlI'll give it another try. (:00:49
soeelittlegirl: panel ?00:49
soeeyou can  put panel where you want, bottom or top or left/right side :)00:50

ahoneybunthe move that Kubuntu is going though with Plasma 5 is what Ubuntu will go though with Unity 7 to 805:31
prthahoneybun, cool05:32
prthahoneybun, can't say about unity, but Plasma 5 is really slick05:33
Mirvsitter: re: qtwayland the preferred patching way would be via Debian experimental, but you can also do uploads to Ubuntu at will if you want08:39
sitterMirv: I uploaded to ubuntu. the patch can be synced away with 5.4.2 anyway08:40
Mirvsitter: ok, great08:41
* Mirv is building 5.5.0 alpha test packages08:43
Mirvhttps://launchpad.net/~ci-train-ppa-service/+archive/ubuntu/landing-020/+packages if interested - zero guarantees, unit tests and symbols disabled :)08:44
Mirvplus something has changed in Qt so that unit tests would not even run properly with xvfb anymore08:44
mitya57Mirv: that patch makes little sense in Debian, as Debian will get a working Plasma/Kwin 5 stuff not sooner than Qt 5.4.2 release.08:51
Mirvmitya57: ok08:51
alleeholI've tested beta2 installation in virtualbox.    3  things to document fix:09:12
alleehol1) virtualbox default disk size i 8 GB,  default vivid is 5 GB + 3 GB swap -> disk almost full warnings after reboot09:13
alleehol2) using 'install' instead of 'try' kubuntu, accpeting all defaults, installation did not properly reboot.  I see  black screen with a cursor in upper left  (like installer exits but kernel  does not reboot so one see a vt)09:15
alleehol3)  same a 2) but install updates + 3 party.  At the end of install.  I'm left with an empty screen.  No: installation finished please reboot dialog.09:15
yofelI've seen 2) and 3), not sure if we have bugs about them (I hope so). For 1) please file a bug09:16
alleehol'reseting' virtualbox (c-a-t or ACPI rebot does not work)  kubuntu rebooted nevertheless successfull into login screen.09:17
alleeholyofel: which package? ubiquity?09:19
yofelalleehol: good question... Theoretically it works as intended as the installer does say that the *minimum* requirements are 7.something GB09:25
yofelalleehol: file it against ubiquity for lack of better idea...09:27
yofelthat way it's at least noted somewhere09:27
yofelMirv: out of curiosity: what happens with Qt in xvfb?09:32
alleeholyofel: and what's the 'real' bug  IYHO?  swap  used at all/too big?  Or: min. space requirement too low?  Or: ...09:32
* alleehol ponders what default swap size is used in trusty 09:33
yofelthe min space requirement say how much you need to install at all - from that POV it's correct (you just can't install anything else)09:33
yofelswap sounds a bit much, but I don't know how that's calculated09:33
Mirvyofel: QXcbConnection: no screens available, for example https://launchpadlibrarian.net/201364301/buildlog_ubuntu-vivid-amd64.qtquickcontrols-opensource-src_5.5.0~alpha-0ubuntu1~vivid1~test1_BUILDING.txt.gz09:37

RiddellI worry that's due to the fcitx changes10:40
sitterthat was my worry as well, but since I can't reproduce it...10:40
sitterI also tried to change the IM of the input fields with no change, so I am not certain it was flaky behavior caused by fcitx10:41

Mirvmitya57: not yet. QA has insisted that using real rendering instead of minimal platform plugin is better, hence the xvfb use11:16
sitterhm11:31
sitterRiddell: where do we put kde apps 15.04 btw?11:32
Riddellwe don't yet11:33

Riddellkubuntu_vivid_ppa ?11:35

Riddellyes that's better11:35
Riddelland go into https://launchpad.net/~kubuntu-ppa/+archive/ubuntu/beta11:35
Riddelland later /backports11:35
sitterwouldn't it then be kubuntu_vivid_beta_backports? xD11:35
sitternot sure the separation is worth it11:36
sitteralas, since we have it in the PPA doing the same on the repos would seem like one would need less brain power to compute, alas one more merge to consider11:36

sitterwell13:24
sitterapps 15.04 betas were going while 12.04 patches were coming out13:24

soee_i know :)18:41
soee_well for me Kubuntu is :D18:41
mparilloI agree. Open SuSE never felt right to me, NetRunner had too many customizations and was slow in a VM. Fedora was dog-slow in a VM, and I am not smart enough for Debian, let alone Arch. Only Linux Mint KDE came close to Kubuntu. On the bright side, his Kubuntu Slide is Plasma 5; his Open SuSE slide is Plasma 4.18:44
mparilloI also think there is (or at least was the last time I looked closely) a minor technical error. "Linux Mint builds on top of the great work done by Kubuntu teams and polishes it further." I thought Linux Mint was KDE atop Ubuntu, not a kustomized ha! Kubuntu18:46

mu3enhey everyone. is there any discussion on tuning login times for 15.04 ongoing?21:05
soee_mu3en: login times ?21:06
mu3eni suppose technically i mean plasma startup time soee_21:07
soee_mu3en: tuning how ? :)21:08
mu3enlike not waiting ten times longer than my boot time for the desktop to load...21:08
mu3eni know my boot time is relatively short...but still...21:09
soee_i do not know anything os such improvements now21:10
soee_prioriy is to get existing bugs fixedbefore final release21:11
mu3enthat's cool21:12
mu3enlike i said, it's probably not a big one, hence no discussion on the web...21:12
mu3enthough the devs might be fussing with it since they're the ones that usually stress at those extra seconds.21:13
mu3enjust feels like a long time sitting on the plasma login splash screen compared to either Plasma 4 (what?) or others.21:15
mu3enand i should point out this issue is the same across distros (Ubuntu/Arch/KaOS/...)21:15
yofelmu3en: we might have dependency based system bootup, but the plasma5 startup script is pretty much the one from kde4 so login time should be about the same21:24
yofelreplacing that with something new is somewhere on the upstream todo list, but not a priority right now21:24
mu3enthanks yofel, that makes sense21:28
mu3enbeen a little while since i used 4, and the intervening time with xinit and i3 probably borked my memory21:29
