lordievader | Good afternoon. | 15:30 |
MoonUnit` | afternoon | 15:32 |
jarnos | I made a bootable disk of beta2 by usb-creator-gtk, but it won't boot. | 18:15 |
jarnos | desktop-amd64 | 18:16 |
jarnos | It says "Missing parameter in configuration file. Keyword: path" | 18:19 |
jarnos | Following repeatively by "gfxboot.c32: not q COM32R image" | 18:21 |
jarnos | "boot:" | 18:21 |
jarnos | ^^ q -> a | 18:21 |
lordievader | jarnos: Try unetbootin. | 18:22 |
MoonUnit` | or you could try to copy it with dd if you know the usb /dev. | 18:23 |
jarnos | lordievader, does it give me option to choose keyboard layout and language before running ubuntu from the USB? | 18:24 |
lordievader | jarnos: Err, during the install you will be asked for the keyboard layout. | 18:25 |
jarnos | lordievader, I need that for live session, too. | 18:25 |
jarnos | MoonUnit`, yes, but you can not write other files to the USB then? | 18:28 |
MoonUnit` | no, not with dd. | 18:32 |
furkan | hey, any tips for upgrading to 15.04 beta? i'm running 14.04 now and ran do-release-upgrade -d | 19:27 |
furkan | but it's trying to upgrade me to utopic | 19:27 |
lordievader | furkan: Trusty cannot upgrade to Vivid in one go. | 19:28 |
furkan | lordievader: oh i see, thanks, so i should let it upgrade to utopic first i guess? | 19:28 |
lordievader | furkan: Yes. | 19:31 |
smallfoot- | Has anyone tried running bootchart with systemd? | 20:29 |
smallfoot- | It seems Vivid boots slow | 20:29 |
smallfoot- | it seems stalled just waiting | 20:29 |
lordievader | smallfoot-: 'systemd-analyse blame' might help you with that. | 20:32 |
smallfoot- | I see, thanks | 20:33 |
smallfoot- | systemd-analyse: command not found | 20:34 |
smallfoot- | its analyze with z | 20:34 |
lordievader | That's the one ;) | 20:35 |
smallfoot- | but it just sorts them by which take longest time | 20:35 |
elfy | it will | 20:35 |
smallfoot- | it doesn't tell anything about parallel jobs like asynchronous operations | 20:35 |
elfy | afaik bootchart won't work | 20:35 |
smallfoot- | I see :( | 20:36 |
lordievader | smallfoot-: Let systemd graph it for you ;) | 20:36 |
lordievader | smallfoot-: systemd-analyze plot > boot.svg | 20:37 |
elfy | oooh | 20:37 |
elfy | thanks lordievader :D | 20:37 |
lordievader | Man pages are useful. | 20:37 |
smallfoot- | http://paste.ubuntu.com/10691314/ | 20:38 |
smallfoot- | Anything strange with this log? | 20:38 |
smallfoot- | lordievader, wow, thats sweet! | 20:38 |
smallfoot- | its true what they say, systemd really is a kitchensink lol | 20:40 |
lordievader | That udev thing is taking long... | 20:40 |
smallfoot- | I see | 20:41 |
smallfoot- | is your systemd-udev-settle.service faster/shorter than mine? | 20:41 |
TheNumb | it depends on the amount of devices you have | 20:42 |
TheNumb | it has to enumerate them all ;p | 20:42 |
TheNumb | block devices that is | 20:42 |
lordievader | Then mine is probably faster. Seeing as it doesn't have any :P | 20:42 |
smallfoot- | I see | 20:43 |
smallfoot- | lordievader, you don't have any? really? i thought everyone had one | 20:43 |
smallfoot- | TheNumb, I have 2 ssd, 1 hdd | 20:43 |
lordievader | It is not even mentioned. | 20:43 |
smallfoot- | TheNumb, does it matter how many partitions too? | 20:43 |
lordievader | However mine isn't very up to date. | 20:43 |
rww | the udev device settler is for things like LVM, encrypted block devices, etc. | 20:43 |
lordievader | smallfoot-: It is a netboot. | 20:43 |
smallfoot- | I see | 20:43 |
smallfoot- | lordievader, oh cool! | 20:44 |
elfy | lordievader: yea for sure - but who bothers with man pages :p | 20:44 |
rww | if you don't use any of that, it shouldn't be taking much time | 20:44 |
smallfoot- | rww, I don't use LVM or encryption | 20:44 |
rww | (I assume, based on how other distros do it) | 20:44 |
lordievader | elfy: I read a quote somewhere that the fancy things you read on blogs all, at some point, originate from a man page ;) | 20:44 |
elfy | heh - for sure :) | 20:44 |
rww | also, systemd-analyze blame falls down when you're analyzing boot time, because it doesn't show that some things run in parallel | 20:45 |
elfy | lordievader: mmm - let's make this readable by hooman :) | 20:45 |
rww | perhaps you want systemd-analyze dot | dot -Tsvg > systemd.svg | 20:45 |
elfy | critical chain helps a bit more in that case than blame | 20:45 |
rww | i think that's the right command for bootchart anyway, i forget | 20:46 |
rww | oh, huh, didn't know about critical-chain | 20:46 |
elfy | it certainly shows the same thing holding up things here as that bootchart | 20:46 |
smallfoot- | rww, systemd-analyze plot > boot.svg # does it | 20:46 |
rww | plot, there we go | 20:46 |
rww | yeah, dot is for dependencies, derp | 20:47 |
elfy | yepcritical chain just shows me the same as the plot does - in regard to what's possibly the hold up | 20:47 |
elfy | http://paste.ubuntu.com/10691385/ | 20:48 |
elfy | network-online.target hangs about then finally libvirt-bin.service finishes off in 243ms | 20:48 |
elfy | at least that's how I read it | 20:49 |
elfy | and I think I've seen bug report re network.online recently | 20:49 |
smallfoot- | elfy, how did u get that output from that paste? | 20:49 |
rww | smallfoot-: systemd-analyze critical-chain | 20:50 |
elfy | systemd-analyze critical-chain | 20:50 |
smallfoot- | thanks | 20:50 |
rww | mine goes through nmbd, but i need that :c | 20:50 |
rww | oh well | 20:50 |
smallfoot- | Am I the only one with slow systemd boot? | 20:50 |
elfy | smallfoot-: do systemd-analyze then tab twice | 20:50 |
smallfoot- | Should I file a report on Launchpad? | 20:50 |
rww | smallfoot-: what's the output of that command? | 20:50 |
elfy | smallfoot-: I've seen people with 1.5 minutes | 20:51 |
smallfoot- | Startup finished in 14.865s (firmware) + 11.133s (loader) + 6.127s (kernel) + 42.079s (userspace) = 1min 14.206s | 20:51 |
smallfoot- | 36.013s systemd-udev-settle.service | 20:51 |
smallfoot- | I don't have any LVM or encryption | 20:51 |
TheNumb | I haven't checked out vivid after the switch to systemd. | 20:52 |
TheNumb | Maybe I should | 20:52 |
rww | smallfoot-: that's not the output of systemd-analyze critical-chain, try again | 20:52 |
TheNumb | see if hangs on systemd-udev-settle | 20:52 |
smallfoot- | rww, http://paste.ubuntu.com/10691416/ | 20:53 |
smallfoot- | this systemd-udev-settle.service is evil!! | 20:56 |
elfy | mmm | 20:56 |
elfy | you also appear to be hanging up on a fsck too | 20:56 |
elfy | oh no - lying | 20:56 |
elfy | but there is ~36 seconds at the bottom | 20:57 |
