[01:36] Hi all. Wondering what else I have to do besides removing the usual "-nolisten TCP" bit I need to do in order to get X to listen on port 6000... [01:40] I'd fall back to Ubuntu 14.10, but there are some strange graphical glitches on my machine (Intel NUC5i5RYH) that make the graphical installer impossible to use... and I *really* don't want to use Fedora... [01:42] I play around with some embedded Linux systems that take a high toll from the overhead of forwarding X11 over SSH, so I was really hoping someone would be able to point me in the right direction in order to get the X server to behave like... an X server [01:44] I'll be 'idling' here until the next time I reboot said machine, so if anyone sees this and offers some insight, I'd be ever so thankful. :) [01:47] Additional information: Yes, I've disabled -nolisten TCP (X command line reads: /usr/bin/X :0 -seat seat0 -auth /var/run/lightdm/root/:0 vt7 -novtswitch) and disabled apparmor... X is literally not even listening on port 6000 (nor is anything else). [01:49] jaysonl: You checked that on ss/netstat ? [01:49] penguin42: I've checked that with netstat -l as well as lsof -i [01:50] as well as plain 'ol "telnet localhost 6000" [01:50] also, "iptables -v -L" shows no rules, policy ACCEPT [01:51] fun [04:37] * jaysonl returns from dinner [04:38] Hi all. Wondering what else I have to do besides removing the usual "-nolisten TCP" bit I need to do in order to get X to listen on port 6000... [08:57] Good morning. [10:15] linux: https://gist.github.com/igalic/20a76de06b13550ea13a :( [13:58] Hey folks [13:59] Hey BK [13:59] hi penguin42 [15:12] damn.. the latest update broke something with sound [15:13] the audio source auto select no longer works. i have no inputs connected [15:13] and when i connect my usb headphones, the sound does not get switched over to them [15:13] you have to manually switch the sound over [15:18] brb [15:21] ok, the sound works fine in unity, but not in latest xfce [15:25] xfce4-session_4.12.1-1ubuntu2_amd64.deb [15:25] i think this is what broke i [15:27] hey, I heard that Chef was to be part of ubuntu 15.04, is it already? I mean if I install the current pre-release version, will Chef be available there ? [15:29] I can't really find any sign of Chef supporting 15.04 already apart from this information [15:38] Well [15:39] !info chef vivid [15:39] chef (source: chef): systems integration framework - clients. In component universe, is optional. Version 11.12.8-1 (vivid), package size 459 kB, installed size 2828 kB [15:39] but on the other hand [15:39] !info chef lucid [15:39] chef (source: chef): configuration management system written in Ruby. In component universe, is extra. Version 0.7.10-0ubuntu1.1 (lucid), package size 11 kB, installed size 168 kB [15:40] So there's been _a_ version of Chef in Ubuntu for years. [16:02] anyone know why the daily iso hasn't been updated since march 26th? [16:04] is it because it hit alpha/beta etc? [16:05] ah, march 26 is final beta [16:06] i am not sure if there are dailies after last beta [16:08] of course there are... they just seem to not be getting promoted from testing to current === Toledo is now known as croberts [19:08] anyone know why systemd is extending the boot time and if its possible to speed things up? [19:09] KDDA: You can use systemd-analyse to figure out what's taking the time [19:09] oops, analyze [19:11] i disabled NetworkManager-wait-online.service always took 8 seconds on my desktop. [19:11] yeh I've heard a few people complain about that one [19:12] exim4.service took 30 seconds [19:13] network manager took 10 [19:14] KDDA: That sounds like the exim timed out waiting for something [19:14] KDDA: I wonder if you're missing a dependency there so that the network or dns or something is up before exim [19:14] its a desktop, why would I need MTA? [19:15] oh, I'd assumed you'd installed that on purpose [19:15] nope! [19:15] nuke it then [19:15] unless its part of Kontact? [19:17] i don't have it installed so can't be a dependacy [19:17] removing now [19:17] will try a reboot [19:20] knocked a few seconds off [19:21] now network manager is taking 20seconds! [19:21] MoonUnit`: how do you disable network manager? [19:22] sudo systemctl disable NetworkManager-wait-online.service [19:24] ok, will try another reboot [19:26] much better! [19:27] Startup finished in 3.192s (kernel) + 7.053s (userspace) = 10.246s [19:28] that's better than mine. [19:28] Startup finished in 8.004s (kernel) + 4.560s (userspace) = 12.565s [19:30] probably a few services i could disable, ModemManager perhaps. [19:30] lirc.service also, only installed it for irexec [19:34] thanks for the help penguin42 and MoonUnit` [19:34] np [19:34] modem manager is complaining on my machine [19:35] I dont use a modem, so that could be disabled [20:00] Hello! I am using kubuntu 15.04, i have en and ru keyboard layouts. When i switch to another window or press Enter in browser text edit field - my layout switches to default(en_US). I have "Global switching policy" in keyboard settings. What's wrong with it? [20:08] disabled the modemmanager, didn't cause any problems [20:09] only knocked off 0.200s though hehe [20:09] might also make your system log bit smaller! [20:10] :P [20:10] MoonUnit`: what kernel you using? [20:10] 4.0-rc7 [20:11] Hello! I am using kubuntu 15.04, i have en and ru keyboard layouts. When i switch to another window or press Enter in browser text edit field - my layout switches to default(en_US). I have "Global switching policy" in keyboard settings. What's wrong with it? [20:11] btw, when i double-click window, layout changes to default(en_US) too [20:11] any ideas? [20:11] Anonymauz: try #kubuntu-dev [20:11] wtf.. [20:12] sorry #kubuntu-devel [20:17] closest bug similar i could find is this https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/debian-installer/+bug/1440431 [20:17] Launchpad bug 1440431 in debian-installer (Ubuntu) "Kubuntu Vivid Beta 2. After sleep the keyboard layout is set as default and can't be switched" [Undecided,New] === Malsasa is now known as Guest11949 === Malsasa_ is now known as Malsasa
