psusianyone know why youtube says firefox is unable to play h264?02:07
psusithe gstreamer1.0 plugins seem to be installed and I can play h264 videos locally just fine02:08
Daekdroompsusi, what is the value of media.gstreamer.enabled in about:config ?02:09
psusiDaekdroom, true02:10
DaekdroomHm.02:10
psusiI was reading various things online that said the old gstreamer0.10-ffmpeg plugin was removed in 14.04 and that was why h264 in firefox broke, but also that firefox 30 gained support for gstreamer1.002:11
Daekdroompsusi, does it say it doesn't support h.264 or does it say it doesn't support MSE & h.264?02:11
DaekdroomThe latter is not supported yet.02:11
psusisays no suport for h264, mse, mse&h264, and mse&webm vp902:12
psusionly two that are supported is htmlvideoelement, and webm vp802:12
psusithis is a fresh install of 15.04 from the other day, though for some reason the daily iso has not been updated in like a month02:14
DaekdroomWhat about media.gmp-gmpopenh264.enabled. Is that one enabled?02:14
psusinot listed at all02:17
psusionly has media.gmp-gmpopenh264.lastUpdate and h264.version02:17
DaekdroomSo I guess you do not have the OpenH264 plugin in about:addons?02:18
DaekdroomThat one too can provide H.264 support for Firefox.02:18
psusilists "openh264 video codec provided by cisco systems, inc. 1.302:18
DaekdroomIs it enabled?02:19
psusisays it is from openh264.org... I guess so... says always activate02:19
psusihrm... seems to work fine in chromium02:32
lordievaderGood morning.06:37
k1l_dzan: sudo apt-get purge bcmwl-kernel-source broadcom-sta-common broadcom-sta-source09:30
k1l_then: sudo apt-get install b43-fwcutter firmware-b43-installer09:31
dzank1l_: you want me to install all and every possible available driver? :p09:31
dzank1l_: wouldn't that put a ton of extra modules on my system? also my chip is the BCM4352 it's supposed to be the bcmwl-kernel-source09:32
k1l_no. i dont know where you got the infor the bcmwl-kernel-source is the right on, its not09:32
dzanfor people who don't know what this is about: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=227384609:32
dzank1l_: oh oke I read it somewhere that could have been wrong.. but the interface does show up and scanningn for networks does work after installing it so I assumed it was correct09:33
k1l_the sta driver is the old one. the bcm43 now works best with the b43 driver which ubuntu ships now09:35
dzanoke, so bcmwl-kernel-source is the sta too?09:35
dzank1l_: if I install all those who/how will the right one be picked?09:35
k1l_i gave you 2 commands. that will erase the wrong driver and install the right driver09:36
dzanok I'll execute those and report back09:37
DalekSecDescription says broadcom-sta-dkms / broadcom-sta-source for BCM4352.09:38
k1l_oh sorry. i had read that as 4322 :/09:39
k1l_for 4352 the sta one is the right one09:39
dzanok.. just crashed trying to connect to some other ap's anyway :-)09:40
nightfurianyone on why dmidecode doesnt work in kernel 4.0 ?09:40
dzanDalekSec: so bcmwl-kernel-source was the wrong one?09:40
DalekSeck1l_: Best part?  sta is right for 4322s, b43 for 14e4:432b..09:41
DalekSecdzan: I'd go with dkms.09:41
DalekSecdzan: And yes, unless you have another card.09:42
k1l_DalekSec: broadcom really should get their messe sorted there :)09:42
k1l_*mess09:42
dzanDalekSec: no I have the bcm435209:43
dzan(lspci output)09:43
dzanrev 03 if that matters09:43
DalekSec"Additional Drivers" is generally pretty spot on as to which to use.09:43
DalekSeck1l_: Would make things easier.09:43
dzanDalekSec: whats different between bcmwl-kernel-source and broadcom-sta-dkms?09:44
dzanDalekSec: DalekSec broadcom-sta-dkms doesn't work for the latest kernel it seems (3.19.0-14-generi)09:45
DalekSecdzan: I'd presume one uses dkms, and the other lets you do it.  Go with dkms.09:45
DalekSechttps://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/broadcom-sta/+bug/143961609:47
ubottuLaunchpad bug 1439616 in broadcom-sta (Ubuntu) "broadcom-sta-dkms 6.30.223.248-3 won't install on Vivid 15.04 Beta 2" [Undecided,Confirmed]09:47
dzangheh broadcom-sta-source depends on libmail-sendmail-perl and other strange stuff09:48
dzanDalekSec: the solution is what I had and doesn't work for me09:49
dzanDalekSec: the adapter seems to work and everything but kernel panic when connecting09:49
dzanmaybe I should downgrade my kernel09:50
DalekSeclp 142183309:52
ubottuLaunchpad bug 1421833 in bcmwl (Ubuntu) "Kernel panic with kernel 3.18, using vivid vervet" [Undecided,Confirmed] https://launchpad.net/bugs/142183309:52
DalekSecSoo, going with k1l_ here, it's a mess for sure.09:53
dzanDalekSec: lol... the b43 doesn't work for me so no workaround09:55
dzanoh maybe it does09:55
DalekSecThat's for a different card, so unless you checked the page with it listed...09:56
dzanit doesn't I checked09:57
dzanthe arch forum says it's solved for mine the b43 says no support for mine09:57

ben___Hello there.14:44
ben___Anyone else having problems with the login screen? I installed the daily image on April 13th, updated today. But I still can't login14:45
ben___Type in my pw, hit enter, screen flashes and area with user-name is blank. Need to hit Esc, then I see "Authentication failed" and a retry button, which I can't click. I can log-in via TTY though14:46
BluesKajben___, Ubuntu? if so run systemctl enable lightdm, if on Kubuntu sytemctl enable sddm then reboot14:52
BluesKajin the tty14:52
ben___Right. k, thx, I'll try it. But it would be interesting if this is a bug that affects more people14:53
ben___I get a message about a missing [Install] section, but I'll try to reboot14:54
ben___Nope, same thing14:57
BluesKajben___, have you updated and upgraded lately?14:57
ben___yes, just before coming here14:58

BluesKajdesktop or laptop?14:58
BluesKajand gpu?14:58
ben___Virutal Box14:58
BluesKajoh, dunno if VB works with 15.04 , I know thaty qmu-kvm does14:59
ben___k, but thats lightdm misbehaving, not a HW issue. I can boot and do whatever on the TTY15:00
BluesKajerr qemu-kvm15:00
ben___Also /var/log/auth.log says something about: lightdm PAM unable to open pam_kwallet.so (no such file or directory)15:00
ben___Maybe I should file a bug report... Not sure if I should file it for Ubuntu Vivid or lightdm package though15:01
BluesKajsorry i don't bother with the wallet, and lightdm does seem to have a login bug , someone was compaining about here yeterday15:01
ben___Ah I see. that's what I wanted to know, if it's me or a bug.15:03

ubottuk/ed/x/l/ubuntu-desktop is a metapackage. It depends upon other packages and brings them in; you can safely remove it, but it is recommended that you re-install it when upgrading.16:25

nightfurihenkjan: sorry i dont know why it is missing /dev/mem.18:28
nightfuriis it because of the kernel ?18:28
MoonUnit`i think it was removed an exploit that was found last month18:28
nightfurioh18:29
MoonUnit`i think, googling atm18:29
MoonUnit`rowhammer was the exploit, trying to find linus's patch he released.18:31
MoonUnit`not sure, patch says "This disallows anybody without CAP_SYS_ADMIN to read the pagemap."18:34
nightfuriso i guess it will be fixed in the next kernel verion ?18:34
