Private_Userguys, I was just curious, how do hotels setup all the DSTV channels on each channel in each room? For us we would have to buy the decoder and change the channels via the decoder but at hotels I noticed they have it setup where one would just change the channels on the TV so wondering how they do that?18:35
Private_UserI tried searching on the net but not sure what to search for cause I do not find what I am looking for?18:35

Kilosjust install gnome318:44
Kilosthen choose at boot18:44

Kiloswhen you get to where you ener password there is a tiny thing top right that lets you choose18:45
Kilosif it will break things in wont install18:45
captineok.  I thought I read that, esp if you use the gnome PPA, it will change some libraries or something and break things...18:46
captinewill give it a shot soon18:46
Kilosyou could install it with aptitude to make sure18:46
Kilosaptitude will give options 18:46
Kilosif there could be a prob18:46
superflyinstall the gnome-desktop package18:48
superflyit's supposed to be part of the repos18:48
Kilosthere you go18:49
superflyhrm, maybe not on 14.04 though18:49
Kilosty superfly  18:49
Private_Userthanks Kilos, its what I found as well but getting 100% how they do it. I worked for a company where they had TVs in each building where at the back of the TV a what looked like a normal antenna cable was plugged into the TV then you did a search on the tv and it picked up the DSTV channels sort of like how we used to search when the only channels we had were the SABC Channels using a UHF/VHF ariel18:49
Kiloswhew Private_User  thats beyond me18:51
Private_Userlol18:51
Kilosdo you want to run a hotel now18:52
kulelu88Private_User: they must have been broadcasting from 1 decoder across a local frequency 18:53
Private_Useryeah I was just curious how they did I always wondered but today a friend of min is staying at a hotel so the thought came back to me and was wondering if it can be setup at home so we pay for one subscription without needing extra view and dual view and PVR18:53
Kiloslol18:54
superflyPrivate_User: they probably pay a special exhorbitant rate to do that18:54
kulelu88Possible, yes. You could even do it via streaming18:54
Private_Useryeah sounds like that could be it kulelu88 but what hardware will be needed?18:54
superflyPrivate_User: which would make the extra view/ dual view look like pocket change18:54
Private_Userlol superfly18:54
kulelu88Well as long as nobody who works for SAPS is here, I'm thinking ...18:55
kulelu88decoder18:55
kulelu88some type of streaming device18:55
Private_Userthats what I wanna avoid paying and more money per month18:55
kulelu88antenna18:55
kulelu88and receiving antennae18:55
Private_Userif we can figure that out then it would be lekker then we can get OpenView HD, DSTV and that other one which used to be TOPTV and also a FTA receiver to receive all the FTA channels then instead of changing from AV1 to AV2 or HDMI1 to HDMI 2 for each decoder everything will be on the tv then we just select the tv channels18:58
Kiloswhew when are you going to work18:58
Private_Useror even better if I install a Tuner card or something on the PC/Laptop then I can watch it on my laptop like that18:58
kulelu88I think having DStv alone would suffice. isn't openview where ETV plays all their Segal movies from 1999?18:59
Private_Userlol @ kulelu8818:59
kulelu88kwaai movies some of them18:59
Private_Userlol Kilos, I try to work everyday19:00
Private_Userhehe19:00
Kilosya but not once you sort all this tv stuff19:00
Private_Useroh well I will find out eventually but optimal setup is to have them setup on my laptop... hmm... this gets me thinking is there any Free Open Source software out there to receive channels so I can just connect a satellite to the computer and pick everything up for free maybe the software can decode it for me19:01
Private_Usercause paying to watch the same thing over and over again seems like a waste of money in my opinion rather spend the money on broadband19:02
Private_Userand even that is too expensive at the moment but what can we do19:03
Private_Userhence the reason for looking for alternative solutions like above19:04

kulelu88but how is life there. Can I surf in July? Is there a lot of outdoor activities? Is it a retirement village for old people?19:11
Private_Useryesterday when I decided to take a break I went and sat at the Beach19:11
Private_Useryeah you can Surf dude in July19:11
kulelu88how old are you? Private_User 19:11
Private_Userif I remember correctly I think in July is when they used to have the surfing competitions in Durban, cannot remember do they still do that?19:12
kulelu88searching says the Mr Price surf event is now in Ballito19:12
Private_Userlots of outdoor activities as well19:12
Private_Userbut Balito is becoming an expensive place to live19:13
kulelu88yeah. 40m^2 flat in an estate is R500019:13
Private_Useryeah and people say cost of living on JHB is expensive, I disagree19:14
kulelu88JHB is cheaper rental wise (cause there's more housing)19:15
Private_Useryeah but I think its more or less the same depending where you live but here because we at the coast its a bit more pricey because of the Sea I think19:15
kulelu88I'm guessing you stay north of Ballito?19:16
Private_UserSouth, North of Durban place called Tongaat19:16
Private_UserI stay on a farm at the moment19:17

Private_Userthe issue now is that there are so many people from other countries here if we say we are Indian/Asian/African now people gonna think we from those other countries then the Xenophobia people will come to attack19:20
Private_Userlol19:20
Private_Usersome of the Chinese shops in Durban were attacked by Xenophobia19:20
kulelu88I dont think the okes here care much for politics or issues in SA. We all universally accept that its a kak country19:21
Private_Userso they now are done with African foreigners and moving on to people from other parts of the world, SAD19:21
Private_Useroh well, for now let me go eat and BBL19:22
Private_Userbtw kulelu88, what did the previous regime classify you as? You can guess what they classified me as19:23
kulelu88chinese?19:24
Private_Useryour nick and place of residence is confusing me so honestly I doubt I can guess what they classified you as but then again I never care too much about those things cause I never see it until its actually mentioned19:25

melodiekulelu88 lighter while elegant and easy to go22:14
melodieI started in 2009 with PCLinuxOS 22:14

kulelu88i'll take a .me22:16
melodieso I reproduced the method in Ubuntu and adapted it, while working to get some packages into the repos. openbox-menu and obsession are now in the Debian repositories, which means they are available in Ubuntu as well22:16
melodiegive me your mail address and I forward you a promo code22:16
kulelu88so I get the .me for free?22:16
melodieyou also need to be registered at http://gandi.net to buy your domain and once you are about to pay to enter the promo code and then the bill is 0 euro22:16
