OvenWerksnew iso still has invisible mouse pointer in live ISO for me. 32 bit will still not boot. 64bit iso will not boot as non-uefi still.00:21
zequenceastraljava: You need to set pulseaudio to use jack as the output in order to hear the desktop audio04:42
zequenceUse the largest buffer in order to get no xruns on vbox04:42
zequenceI'll do some testing this evening. Will also check on real machines, both UEFI and non-UEFI04:43
astraljavazequence: I'll have to look into that, it wasn't obvious to me what should have been changed last night, but then again I was more than half-asleep already. :)07:06
astraljavaI'll try again today.07:06
astraljavaI'm fine with the xruns, as that's only a test install. I did hear audio, so I could verify it worked.07:07
OvenWerksI have yet to get a 32 bit ISO to boot on any machine.12:42
astraljavaOvenWerks: Real hardware and/or virtual?13:53
OvenWerksastraljava: real20:09
OvenWerksI'm going to check it on a few more just now.I also want to check the 64 on a non-uefi machine.20:10
OvenWerksOn a non-uefi system I can not boot period.20:22
elfyOvenWerks: is that with a new copy of the image? 20:23
OvenWerkshow new?20:23
OvenWerksI have downloaded twice20:24
elfylast few hours new20:24
OvenWerksno20:24
elfy2 secs20:24
OvenWerksIs this supposed to be fixed then?20:24
elfybunch of stuff was looked at 20:24
OvenWerksk' I will download again the 32 + 64 bit isos20:25
elfy12:50 (UTC I would suspect)20:25
elfyvbox will likely prove to be an issue20:25
OvenWerksWe have 3 or 4 computers with no uefi bios that these images will not work on at all.20:25
OvenWerksI am using HW20:25
elfyk20:26
elfygrabbing the 32bit I can at least check it boots and installs 20:27
OvenWerkselfy: I have also had a problem with the live sessions not showing the mouse... I can see the effect of a mouse hovering over things and the r/l click works.20:28
OvenWerksinstalled it is ok20:28
elfymmk20:28
elfyI'll see on hardware 20:28
OvenWerksI have tried various themes etc20:28
OvenWerkszsync shows 92%... ya new ISO :)20:30
OvenWerkselfy: I see that the ubuntu help page is recomending dd over the startup disk creator. would that be my problem?20:36
elfyOvenWerks: shouldn't be20:37
elfyafaik disks uses dd20:37
OvenWerksCan't, dd would make a partition the same size as the ISO and not allow persistance20:38
elfyoh my20:38
elfynot reading for the sun in my glasses20:38
OvenWerksI see this "[This is the situation now with the new Ubuntu 14.10 version] Win32DiskImager is particularly good for pre-release testing and new releases, when the standard tools like Startup Disk Creator might not be ready (if the configuration of the booting has been changed since the previous release). "20:38
OvenWerkson https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Installation/FromUSBStick20:39
elfyI read startup disk as disks - which is what I recommend currently :D20:39
OvenWerkswrong quote..."[This is the situation now with the new Ubuntu 14.10 version] mkusb is particularly good for pre-release testing and new releases, when the standard tools like Startup Disk Creator might not be ready (if the configuration of the booting has been changed since the previous release). "20:39
OvenWerksI am running the LTS20:40
elfymkusb is definitely a front end to DD 20:41
OvenWerksYes20:42
OvenWerksI will try dd on the next DLs and if they work, try again with the system tool20:42
OvenWerksIt seems the system tool on 14.04 is broken20:43
elfyOvenWerks: I did a bunch fo tests with tools for usb 20:47
elfymostly I remember that gnome-disks just worked 20:47
OvenWerkselfy: in my opinion, the iso should not be released untill the system tool that ships with 14.04/14.10 has been fixed/released.20:49
elfythen it won't be released 20:49
elfyI might be listed as on the release team - but only so I can work tracker for -studio :)20:50
OvenWerkseven if upgrading it meant a new tool was pulled in to replace it.20:50
elfyOvenWerks: ok booted 32bit to livesession - no uefi on that laptop20:51
OvenWerksI am thinking this must be the case for all ubuntu's though20:52
OvenWerksAnyway I am printing the 64bit to my usb stick with dd. I will see how that works20:52
elfyOvenWerks: tools and booting is generally common, studio would also obviously get affected by Xubuntu specific issues to probably 20:52
elfycvan't do more than boot the live session on laptop 20:53
OvenWerksWe will have to make sure the download page bluntly says the system tool will not work, here is the new instructions.20:54
OvenWerksStudio is treating this as a in-progress release. All of these things will need to be fixed for next LTS20:55
OvenWerkselfy: Did your mouse work ok?20:56
elfyyep20:56
OvenWerksgood20:56
OvenWerksI will try live on three machines here and full install on one20:57
OvenWerkselfy: using dd on the 64bit ISO allowed me to boot on the older non-uefi machine.21:10
elfyok21:11
OvenWerkszequence: https://ubuntustudio.org/download/ should include a note to _not_ use Startup Disk Creator in the system menu. The one in 14.04 does not support newer ISO versions.21:58
len1504Installing 32 bit ISO. So far everything is working for me. The ALSA driver for USB1.1 Audio devices seems much better than what my wife's computer has now. I think next time I load her system I will do xfce instead of kde. The graphics seem snappier too even though the GPU (atom based MB) is not well supported.22:45
len1504The AC97 audio on the old P4 has lots of xruns at 64/3 but seems to work ok. The atom is fine with 64/2. (even streaming from Pulse)22:48
len1504reboot22:51
=== ubuntu-studio is now known as len64
len64installing 64bit version.23:15
len64Things I have noticed... the 32bit ISO only shows up as non-uefi, but the 64bit ISO shows up as both (in my bios boot selector).23:16
len64I am guessing the uefi is new enough that there are no 32bit boards with it? What of the person who still wants 32bit for compatibility reasons? Is that still an issue with wine for example?23:18
len64BTW, at boot we end up at lightdm with a pure white (grey?) screen. It is not obvious this is a scrren saver and the user should click somewhere. (pressing a key on the KB does not seem to work)23:23
len64Having no screen saver makes more sense to me... something to fix in 15.10.23:23
len64reboot23:26
OvenWerksThe version of Ardour in the new iso should be sru/backported to LTS as the one in LTS has bugs that could result in lost files. If it is two releases till next LTS Ardour4 may even be an option.23:47
