[03:07] Hello [03:08] Inspire: there are people here who hang around usually [03:08] is it something specific you're looking for or just a general hello? [03:08] Just a hello [03:08] (public holiday in NZ today, so less people around or online) [03:09] :) [03:09] Am trying out different linux distos... don't like unity so far. [03:10] I use awesome as my window manager, but whilst it might not be for you, there are plenty of alternatives to Unity [03:10] might be worth trying those out too (including Gnome if that's what you like or are used to) [03:10] awesome...ill have to uncle google that. [03:10] I mean, don't let Unity put you off [03:10] it's a tiling window manager, so it's very minimal [03:10] true [03:11] so you run awesome on top of ubuntu? [03:11] I have used ion3, i3 or xmonad in the past [03:11] awesome as my windown manager in Ubuntu (not really on top off - but that's just semantics) [03:11] ok [03:11] many people like xfce as well [03:11] and of course Gnome or KDE [03:11] lots of choice :) [03:12] so hypothetically on awesome you could watch youtube...or a movie etc? [03:12] yep [03:12] not hypothetically ... I can :) [03:12] am currently watching the snooker! [03:13] (World Championships in the UK at the moment) [03:13] sweet [03:13] http://awesome.naquadah.org/images/6mon.medium.png [03:13] actually, tell a lie, I'm serving a static directory of mp4's to my local network and watching it on another laptop using mplayer on a bigger plugged-in screen (also running awesome) [03:14] yeah, that's awesome :) [03:14] So I'm assuming you have deep knowledge when it comes to command line/linux [03:15] What year did you start using it? [03:15] heh, not really ... a working knowledge or at least a passable knowledge [03:15] using what? awesome or ubuntu or linux or what? [03:15] linux. [03:15] or the command line? [03:15] 2001 I think [03:15] that was my first install, RedHat 7.2 or 6.1 or something [03:15] perhaps it was Mandrake! [03:15] nfi [03:16] I went Linux-only (no Windows) in 2003 [03:17] oh, I guess Mandrak is now called Mandriva or something - dunno, I don't keep up [03:17] I just use Ubuntu LTS these days [03:17] so you dont use windows at all? [03:17] What do you do for a living? [03:17] apart from my wife's computer, no [03:18] programming / developer / whatever you want to call it these days :) [03:18] sweet [03:22] ur a kiwi [03:23] originally from the UK [03:23] you? [03:24] kiwi [03:25] Auckland? [03:25] In Upper Hutt at the moment [19:25] morning [20:46] morning [20:51] morning [21:25] mornin [21:26] morning [22:41] morning [23:47] morning
