DANtheBEASTmandoes anybody know the appropriate way to install plasma 5 on 14.04? I see a couple ppas but not sure which to use, I see ppa:kubuntu-ppa/next and next-backports02:52
ZerkalerkaHey guys, where to setup my own shortcut to open a new Konsole window for example?  Use to know where, can't seem to find it now.03:26
Zerkalerkavery strange, I set it up once before and I can't find it again.. I made meta+t open a new konsole window and now I can't seem to do it again lol03:39
crdpinkZerkalerka: Shortcuts and Gestures...Custom Shortcuts...right click in there and Add03:47
Zerkalerkacrdpink: TY, for some reason I dont' remember doing those steps but must have.. lol ty03:55
crdpinkZerkalerka: np. remember you can type a filter in System Settings window to narrow down what you are after if you forget03:56
Zerkalerkacrdpink: Perfect thanks for the tip. :)03:59
crdpinkZerkalerka: good luck04:04
ZerkalerkaThink I found a bug04:06
ZerkalerkaWhen I add my own custom shortcuts, they will get added under Global Keyboard Shortcuts - KDE Componenet: khotkeys, now lets say I delete my custom shortcut, it will stay under there but not be in affect it will just be visual.  So I just tested it out and right now I have two custom open Dolphin shortcuts when in reality only one is working and the other is just there empty.04:08
Zerkalerkaah I see you have to click File - Remove Compnents and it will clear out the unused ones to make it nice and tidy.04:09
Zerkalerkagood to know.04:09

irctc729Hi, I would like to report a typo in the french translation inside Kubuntu's installer, where can I do that ?07:44
lordievaderGood morning.07:47
lordievaderRoey: Hi07:47
thelionroarsI'm having trouble with transferring my wallet to the new manager after upgrading from 14.10 to 15.0408:04
yossarianukhi reading this -> http://www.linux.com/news/software/applications/825994-kubuntu-1504-plasma-53-review08:10
yossarianukIt suggests Plasma 5.3 will be included with 15.04 (in the main updates?) - is this right ?08:11
lordievaderThe beta is in the backports ppa now.08:11
valorieoh gosh, neon is never never never to be recommended08:13
valorieplasma 5 is vivid and after, period08:13
yossarianuklordievader: sure - its just the way is phrased in that article suggests its coming to 15.04 at some point (I assume as part of normal updates)08:13
valorieno ppa-next08:13
valorieyossarianuk: probably in backports08:14
valoriedon't forget it's in beta right now08:14

yossarianukgot to decide in the next couple of mins if I'm installing Kubuntu 15.04  or Debian 8 (KDE) on my work desktop.......08:15
valorieoh, I meant that the final would be in backports too "probably:08:15

yossarianuk15.10 will have 5.3/5.4 then I assume.08:15

TromzyI would like to report a typo in Kubuntu's installer, for the french translation08:22
valorieTromzy: file a bug please08:23
Tromzywhere to plpease ?08:23
Tromzyplease*08:23
lordievader!bug08:23
yossarianukI do have one 'bug' that still exists in 15.04 final08:23
ubottuIf you find a bug in Kubuntu, please follow the instructions at https://wiki.kubuntu.org/Kubuntu/Bugs/Reporting to report the issue to the developers.08:23
yossarianukIf I blank a drive (i.e parted mktable gpt) then install Kubuntu (manual partitions) if always doesn't boot - no UEFI entry08:24
valorieTromzy: the easiest way to file is to type into konsole: ubuntu-bug ubiquity08:24
valorieand follow the instructions08:25
yossarianukhowever if I then reinstall (in the partitions I created the previous time) it always works08:25
yossarianuki.e I get the UEFI entry08:25
valorieI appreciate your attention to detail08:25
TromzyThanks but I'm not using kubuntu right now08:25
yossarianuk(which should be 'kubuntu' IMO to avoid conflicts with Ubuntu)08:25
TromzyI'll try Launchpad08:25
valorieyou can use that in any *buntu08:25
TromzyI'm on Arch08:26
Tromzyright now08:26
valorieubiquity is the installer packagename08:26
valorieyossarianuk: that sounds like a bug for sure08:27
yossarianuknot sure how to report my bug - as mentioned the 2nd install always works08:27
yossarianukso the logs/etc will be lost from the 1st install.08:27
lordievaderyossarianuk: Sounds like a bug in ubiquity.08:28
valorieso maybe write to kubuntu-devel list and ask for advice about how to file the bug08:28
valorieperhaps there is a trick to save those logs08:28
Unit193/var/log/installer/08:29
TromzyLaunchpad seems to be for Ubuntu only, not kubuntu ; my typo report is for Kubuntu only08:30
yossarianukvalorie: ok what address do I send to ? (and do I have to register)08:30
valorielaunchpad is for all of us08:30
yossarianukUnit193: cheers08:30
valoriekubuntu IS ubuntu08:30
Unit193valorie: Typo is either in the installer or slideshow?08:31
yossarianukkubuntu = Ubuntu - spyware + mutant tablet desktop.08:31
valorieyou can send to the list without being subbed, yossarianuk08:31
valorieyossarianuk: lol08:31
valorieunity desktop is just one piece of Ubuntu08:31
yossarianukKDE is one of the few actual 'desktops'...  Cinnamon is also as well as LXQT/XFCE...08:32
TromzyThen I don't know where to report, because if I report it to Launchpad, it will affect Ubuntu as well, which it shouldn't08:32
valoriesure08:32
valorieTromzy: you can mark it as Kubuntu08:32
TromzyI know the difference between Ubuntu and Kubuntu, thanks08:32
Unit193Tromzy: Is it in the part that talks about Kubuntu specifically, after asking you all the questions?08:32
TromzyI know it's the same distro with KDE instead of Unity08:32
valorieI usually use the cli, because I find launchpad difficult to navigate08:32
lordievaderTromzy: Report it against ubiquity and tag it as kubuntu.08:33
valorieTromzy: I was responding to yossarianuk08:33
Tromzythe typo is simple : the title of the installer is : "Préparation à l'installation d'Kubuntu" which comes from the the Ubuntu version "Préparation à l'installation d'Ubuntu" ; the Ubuntu version is correct ("d'Ubuntu") but the Kubuntu version is not "you cannot say "d'Kubuntu" in french, you can't put an apostrophe before a "K")08:35
Tromzyit's simpel as that and it's a typo I've always seen08:35
yossarianukhi -this is a silly question (probably) I am about to reinstall my desktop (Kubuntu 14.10 -> 15.04) and want to migrate my firefox profile -  previously I got a code which I can use when I re-installed /upgraded which copied my firefox info - where is that feature now ?08:35
lordievaderTromzy: So file a bug report with that information.08:36
valorieit would be very cool to get that fixed then, Tromzy08:36
lordievaderyossarianuk: Don't format /home?08:36
TromzyOK ; I want to file a bug report, I just need to know where to08:36
valorieyossarianuk: i never got a code, but it's always upgraded and been fine08:36
TromzyI agree Valorie because I does not look very professional to see that typo in the installer08:36
yossarianuklordievader: /home is not separate08:36
lordievaderTromzy: Against Ubiquity, the installer.08:36
valorieexactly08:36
yossarianukive found it anyway cheers08:37
lordievaderyossarianuk: Lesson for next time, make a seperate /home ;)08:37
yossarianukif I disconnect my profile - I see what I will see on a fresh install....08:37
valorieah, I do remember a profile problem one time08:37
valoriebut I've set up syncing between machines08:38
yossarianukhmmm but then if you radically change OS - say to Arch or Debian 7, etc the versions of software will be different - i.e the .mozilla profile,.08:38
valorieand that eventually fixed it somehow08:38
yossarianukI prefer a clean system when I install less chance of issues.08:38
TromzyShould I go to "Report a bug" or "Help translate" ?08:38
valorieah, I've never done that08:38
valorieTromzy: report a bug08:38
Tromzythx08:38
valorieunless you want to join the translate team08:38
yossarianukI don't like sharing /home/ between distros for same reason.08:38
valoriewhich is always cool08:38
lordievaderyossarianuk: I've used the same /home between Kubuntu and Gentoo, worked just fine.08:39
valorieI don't mind sharing home, but I don't want to share configs08:39
valoriethat sounds dangerous08:39
Unit193Tromzy: That'll be a harder one to fix, because as I suspected the string is: msgstr "Préparation de l’installation d’${RELEASE}"08:39
TromzyUnit193 : that's what I think too, maybe that's why it has never been fixed08:40
Tromzybut it looks really bad in french, you just cannot type "d'Kubuntu"08:41
yossarianuklordievader: some apps could cause an issue if the versions are different.08:41
lordievaderyossarianuk: I know.08:41
yossarianukIve seen it before...08:41
Unit193Tromzy: Is there something else that you can use interchangably between 'ubuntu' and 'kubuntu' (as well as the others)?08:41
yossarianukAnyway - off to install 15.04 on my work desktop - I can always install debian8 if i find it not stable enough (not had any real issues @ home with 15.04...)08:42
yossarianukcheers everybody - have a cool day08:43
Tromzyunforrtunately, I don't think so ; except maybe "Préparation à l'installation du système Ubuntu / Kubuntu / Xubuntu etc." ? That would work08:43
Tromzy"Preparing the installation of the Kubuntu system"08:43
yossarianuki'll actually bother to reinstall 15.04 tonight @ home so I can properly report the install bug08:43

davevanloololmaus_ that will be in vain, apple users are ( in general ) to stupid when it comes to IT to properly mock you09:39
lolmaus_Panels eventually unfreeze, performing all actions i tried on them at once (i. e. left and right clicking). Suddenly all windows switch and a dozen of popup menus appear.09:40

lolmaus_Okay, killing plasmashell helps. But how do i restart it other than from a console?09:43

yossarianukI do know, however the entire reason I manged to get the OSS modules put back in the kernel was to play paintball2 (dplogin.com)10:47
yossarianukthis relies on libgcrypt11 which was removed the same week the OSS SND modules were put back10:48
* lordievader never used OSS and thinks he is lucky about that10:48

zamazan4ikwhat about nvidia optimus and drivers ?12:19
soeezamazan4ik: some users have problems with it, for me they work good12:19
soeethere are though some visual glithces in sddm with propriety drivers12:20
soeebut this is not Plasma 5 and you asked about plasma:)12:20
CharlieTheCabbielordievader, is there anything I can do about it, short of throwing my monitor out of the window??? :)12:20
yossarianukI would never test a new desktop in a VM - it will not be as good as a real install...12:20

lordievaderCharlieTheCabbie: Err, you can still force modes.12:21
zamazan4ikoh, ok :)12:21
lordievaderCharlieTheCabbie: Also it might be the graphics card/driver not properly supporting edid.12:22
zamazan4ikwhat's problem with sddm?12:22
CharlieTheCabbiethe graphics card is an nvidia geforce 6200 turbocache.12:22
lordievaderWow, that is old ;)12:22
CharlieTheCabbieI tried it with nvidia drivers and sddm won't even fire up12:22

BluesKajhey CharlieTheCabbie , yeah I had yardwork to finish ....gotta keep wifey happy :-)12:26
CharlieTheCabbieBluesKaj, quick update: I am in Plasma, but display is stuck in 848*something or other.  I have tried to move to 1024*768 and system settings segfaults.12:26
CharlieTheCabbienvidia drivers kill plasma altogether, so they're gone.12:26
CharlieTheCabbieMy text is pretty broken up, and my edid is garbage :)12:27
BluesKajdid you manage to install the nvidia-340 driver, CharlieTheCabbie?12:28
CharlieTheCabbieI tried the 304 and the 340 - 340 told me to use 304 as my card wasn't supported12:28
BluesKajso you're on the nouveau12:28
CharlieTheCabbieyeah12:28
zamazan4iknoouveau is not good choice12:29
zamazan4iki think12:29
zamazan4ikbecause this driver is too simple12:29
BluesKajactually the nouveau driver is quite good for most things if the other drivers aren't working, CharlieTheCabbie12:29
CharlieTheCabbieright now, nouveau is only choice.  I'm having enough trouble getting plasma to start at all12:30
zamazan4ikfor most thing12:30
zamazan4ikfor example, for games nouveau driver is terrible12:30
CharlieTheCabbieBluesKaj, do I have any other options?  lordievader mentioned i can force a mode, but how do I do this?12:30
zamazan4ikCharlieTheCabbie, what about reinstall kde5?12:30

BluesKajzamazan4ik:  kde 5 doesn't exist as such only plasma5 and KF512:31
CharlieTheCabbieIt was done about 18 hours or so back12:31

zamazan4iksoee, why? why nvidia is bad for office use?12:36
zamazan4iksoee, thanks12:36
soeezamazan4ik: for me with propriety drivers there is small screen tearing, animations arent taht smooth as with nouveau12:37

DrGrovpkulas: Business purposes and I prefer to have lightning fast stuff to work with.19:41
pkulasDrGrov: :)19:41
DrGrovpkulas: The main and sole purpose is that I am sick and tired of waiting for a i3, i5 to do something :)19:41
DrGrovpkulas: Yes, perhaps it is a bit of an overkill but hey, it gets the job done ;-)19:41
DrGrovCould someone tell me the direct link to the 15.04 64-bit ISO so I can wget it? :)19:45

Taggnostr4Just completed a fresh install of 15.04 and it still gets stuck after login19:59
ovidiu-florinTaggnostr4: describe stuck please19:59
Taggnostr4Loading bar appears after I enter the password and stops near the end, kwin_x11 is eating all the CPU20:00
Taggnostr4I had the same problem while upgrading from 14.10 and was hoping a fresh install would work20:01
ovidiu-florincrishuke: df -h  please20:02

ovidiu-florinTaggnostr4: nvidia?20:03
Taggnostr4Yes20:03
Taggnostr4I've been trying to make it work since Friday20:03
crishukehttps://paste.kde.org/pa7opicl420:04
ovidiu-florinRiddell: there was a known issue of 15.04 with nvidia, was that solved?20:04
Riddellovidiu-florin: partly, depends which driver you use I think20:05
ovidiu-florinRiddell: do you understand the last pastebin ?20:05
Taggnostr4Is there something I can try?20:05
ovidiu-florinit's the output of df -h20:05
Taggnostr4I'm using nvidia-current20:05
Taggnostr4I think it's nvidia-30420:05
ovidiu-florinTaggnostr4: not in 15.0420:07
ovidiu-florinit's 319 I think20:07
Taggnostr4Let me check20:07
Taggnostr4Yes, I have 30420:09
=== kubuntu is now known as Guest14898
Taggnostr4I apt-got nvidia-current and got 304, should I try 319 instead?20:10
Taggnostr4Fwiw it's an old machine, not sure it had anything to do with it20:10
ovidiu-florinTaggnostr4: one moment20:10
Taggnostr4And I think on 14.10 I was also using 304 without problems20:10
Taggnostr4OK20:10
ovidiu-florinTaggnostr4: you should use the recommended version from the driver gui20:12
ovidiu-florinI don't remember which is the version for that20:12
ovidiu-florinbut 304 sound terribly old to me20:12
Taggnostr4From the GUI the recommended was 30420:12
ovidiu-florinin 15.04?20:15
ovidiu-florinTaggnostr4: ^20:15
Taggnostr4Yes20:15
Taggnostr4Also in 14.1020:15
PapamattiPerhaps the new systemd?20:15
Taggnostr4But when I managed to get to the GUI in 15.10 everything was pretty broken20:16
PapamattiMy first install of 15.04 on my netbook leads into a black screen...20:16
ovidiu-florinTaggnostr4: where did you get 15.10 from?20:16
Taggnostr4Upgrading from 14.1020:17
ovidiu-florin15.10 doesn't exist (yet)20:17
Taggnostr415.04*20:17
ovidiu-florin:P20:18
Taggnostr4Everything seems to eat lot of CPU20:18
Taggnostr4kwin_x11, update-apt+ and WPA_supplicant are trying to use 100%20:19
Taggnostr4systemd-jo+ rsyslogd dbus-daemon NetworkMan+ are also eating 10-25%, not sure if it's because all the rest is already being eaten by the other 320:21
Taggnostr4anything else I can try before giving up and reinstalling 14.10?20:22
Taggnostr4Should I try with 15.04 32bit?20:25
Taggnostr4Maybe the drivers have problems with 64bit?20:25
pkulasTaggnostr4: what CPU do you have20:25
Taggnostr4Core 2, it's 64bit20:26
Taggnostr4The 15.04 I installed is 64bit20:26
Taggnostr4ovidiu-florin just confirmed that from the GUI the recommended version is 304.125 from nvidia-30420:30
pkulasTaggnostr4: For me system very low cpu consume20:30
Taggnostr4pkulas, looked like two unrelated problems, I switched the Wi-Fi off and killed kwin and now the CPU is OK20:31
Taggnostr4After killing kwin I can get windows to pop up, but they have no borders and everything else is black20:32
Taggnostr4Trying the nouveau drivers now20:34

Taggnostr4I'm trying to install back 14.10 from live USB, but now when I try to apt-get the nvidia drivers it won't install them20:55
Taggnostr4It was working fine before20:56
Taggnostr4Maybe I should just buy a new computer...20:56
BluesKaj_wldcordeiro_:  try launchpad kubuntu-bacports ppa , https://launchpad.net/~kubuntu-ppa/+archive/ubuntu/backports20:56
BluesKaj_Taggnostr4:  apt-get install nvidia-340 for example should work , but the driver manager in system settings should find the recommended driver for you20:58
Taggnostr4Neither work20:58
Taggnostr4I can't get the GUI to work -- that's why I'm installing the nvidia driver20:58
Taggnostr4But now that is not working either20:59
BluesKaj_tell us what you mean "not working"21:00
BluesKaj_what exactly are you doing21:00
Taggnostr4Some packages could not be installed21:01
Taggnostr4This may mean that you have requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable distribution that some required packages have not yet been created or been moved out of incoming21:02
BluesKaj_have you updated & upgraded since installing 14.10?21:02
Taggnostr4I'm from live USB21:02
BluesKaj_then choose install kubuntu21:03
Taggnostr4I can't get to the GUI21:03
Taggnostr4Before I managed to get there by installing the nvidia drivers and doing startx21:03
Taggnostr4But now when I try to apt-get them I get that error21:04
BluesKaj_you can't apt-get install on the live-usb21:04
Taggnostr4I'm pretty sure I did it before21:05
BluesKaj_it won't install on your HDD or on the usb, you have to use kubuntu/ubiquity installer to install the OS21:06
Taggnostr4I installed it just to get to the GUI21:07

Pandoriansystem-config-samba not working under kubuntu, what is the alternative?21:29
blubberbopSo I first upgraded 14.10 to 15.04, which was a disaster, all dead.. So this morning I did a fresh install, and I"m still stuck with a laundry list of problems.. I guess most important is now that sddm seesms to either freeze or segfault right when its trying to load the kubuntu desktop..Is this a known problem?21:39
Pandorianare you on virtualbox?21:40
blubberbopAlso, very anoying, I use full system encryption, and at startup I have to enter a password for disk and one for swap (even though they are the same? Can't I just do with one??) and then while working, for even the smallest things, I get this error:21:40
blubberbopPassword entry required for 'Please enter passphrase for disk kubuntu--vg-swap_1 (cryptswap1) on none!' (PID 9550). Please enter password with the systemd-tty-ask-password-agent tool!21:40
blubberbopAnd that is currently at a spam level, any idea how I can make that stop/21:40
blubberbop?21:40
Pandoriani am on vbox and i just recovered from my disaster by reinstalling 14.1021:40
Pandorianeven a fresh install of 15 doesn't work on vbox21:41
Pandoriani lost so much work i put into making it look good21:41
Pandorianall that time just wasted away21:42
blubberbopFrom what I"ve heard around, upgrading 14.10 to 15.04 simply does not work, at all..21:43
blubberbopEven the fresh install is unstable at best for me21:43
blubberbopClosing lid should suspend, but instead does a kernel panic (I think, I see the CAPS key flashing rapidly, and the screen is black and the system is unresponsive, until I press 4 second powerbutton21:44
Pandorianoh good thing you told me, cuz i was gonna try to install it as secondary os instead of vbox21:45
blubberbopsystem settings auto start for some reason does not start any app at all.. When I check the list that contained amarok, chrome, komodo, quassel, yakuake, I see only chrome (which does not started anyway) and quassel (which did not start either)21:45
Pandoriansystem-config-samba not working under kubuntu 14.10, what is the alternative?21:45
blubberbopLogging into GUI desktop crashes (sddm segfault) or freezes 3 out of 4 times21:46
howlymowlyhi everyone, short question: is it somehow possible to install plasma 5.3 with the 14.04 lts?21:46
blubberbopPandorian: since 15.04 is systemd, I guess its all taken over by systemd stuff, like systemctl21:46
Pandorianno, you have to upgrade to 14.10 first21:46
howlymowlypandorian: no, i mean via backports or somethingnlike that21:47
blubberbopkwallet initialized, I put the password I always put there, all works.. reboot, kwallet asks password, but does not recognize it.. I remove the main wallet, put a new one.. password, reboot, same problem..21:47
Pandoriannot sure, sorry21:47
blubberbopAnd on a personal level, I don't like the design of kde5, I put oxygen back.. Again, this is just a personal taste.. Either way, there are no templates yet, so I'm stuck with most of the design, I can use any (semi) transparent desktop bars and stuff yet..21:49
blubberbopSo yeah, so far, 15.04 has not been a great success for me, yet.. Really hoping for a great bug fix update soon21:49

nfk|laptopCharlieTheCabbie, it's not a modeline issue22:53
nfk|laptopprobably22:53
nfk|laptophe needs the nvidia blob most likely22:54
CharlieTheCabbienfk|laptop, I had exactly the same problem with an nvidia driver.  This fixed it.  Worth a try if nothing else22:54
CharlieTheCabbiehttp://www.linuxjournal.com/content/guerrilla-tactics-force-screen-mode-ubuntu22:54
nfk|laptopCharlieTheCabbie, did your kubuntu already come with nvidia installed?22:54
nfk|laptopalso note that he's has the mouse cursor, that means it hasn't gone completely bollocks22:55
CharlieTheCabbieYes - initially upgrade from 1404 to 1410 to 1504, then had to reinstall from full iso on USB22:55
Taggnostr4I'm going to try too22:55
nfk|laptopwhich together with the fact that it's a very modern... blacksad, can you install an older video adapter?22:55

CharlieTheCabbieIt only cost £25, I ain't arguing.22:58
CharlieTheCabbieAnyway blacksad, you've installed absolutely nothing other than the DVD, right?22:59
nfk|laptopCharlieTheCabbie, i'm pretty sure you can get a raspbery pi 2 for that price22:59

Taggnostr4Anyone has any other idea that could fix the black screen?23:38
CharlieTheCabbiesorry once again - my new wifi adaper (ra0 - RT2870STA) is being a pain in the behind. It keeps dropping connection to my router; I did build the adapter from the mt7601 source on github, so I may look and see if it's patched anywhere23:40
Taggnostr4Charlie, the output from xrandr looks OK here23:45
Taggnostr4What does kwin do? Are there other alternatives?23:46
