[08:34] doing ok , just restoring my Surface pro tablet to Windows 8.1 [08:34] I need to do a prsentation on the cloud pretty soon [08:35] :) [08:35] not obvious to restore it after you installed ubuntu on it :) [08:35] brobostigon: your question about ubuntu touch. Is that on the phone or the pc ? [08:35] ah, [08:35] knightwise: phone. [08:40] ok , lets see if i can help you [08:40] what would you like to know , [08:41] ok, if i do an install into my nexus 4, ie, full install not dual booted in some way, will ubuntu touch versions upgrades work as normally.? [08:43] i have no experience with that , i just bought the bq preinstalled :( [08:43] ok, [08:45] but i do think you'll get the updates [08:46] ok, ty. but it has to be a full proper install? [08:46] of that i'm not sure [08:46] when i tried it on the nexus 7 , there was no dual boot [08:47] so you did a full install with phablet-tools? [08:47] yep , but this was about a year ago [08:47] ok, [09:04] sorry i'm not much help .. [09:05] now I have to say , my first impressions of ubuntu phone are .. mixed [09:06] brobostigon: yes [09:06] if you install ubuntu touch on the nexus 4 you'll get over the air updates [09:07] but not in dualboot? [09:08] updates depending on which channel i choose as well? [09:08] I don't know anything about dual boot, never done it [09:08] ok, [09:08] updates work for dual boot aswell. [09:08] wel the used to when i used multirom manager [09:08] s/the/they [09:09] ok, ty you both. [09:19] I haven't charged my bq phone for at least 2 days. still 62% battery [09:34] :) [09:41] haven't charged my nokia for 3 still 100% :-P [12:47] is anyone familier with trouble shooting fb's sms notifications,? === Lcawte|Away is now known as Lcawte === Lcawte is now known as Lcawte|Away [16:40] ordered a new portable charger..stupid connectors seem to have become a bit dodgy on my anker one [16:41] having to hold the cable while it charges is no fun;) [16:41] sounds like someone does not baby their possessions enough! [16:42] pfft [16:42] i kept it in my pocket while phne charges its portable..for out and about [16:42] it works fine..just have to hold the USB cable in [16:42] which well kinda sucks :) [16:43] aaah loving win10 so much, lovely fast UI [16:44] really? [16:45] running in a VM? [16:46] nah on this spare quad core desktop i have [16:46] http://techblo.gg/stuff/win10-10074.png [16:46] ah cool [16:46] how much ram? [16:47] says right there [16:47] ;] [16:47] ah [16:48] super snappy despite some low end nvidia card [16:48] nice [16:49] not used it yet myself [16:49] was talking to someone yesterday still using vista lol [16:49] either use XP or 7..vista ugh [16:49] and obv now support's ended finally for xp [16:49] XP should not be touched, nah [16:49] plus i'd rather not see its' installer ever again [16:50] still get people coming in #ubuntu after a suggestion on what to install on their ancient netbooks, amusingly [16:50] i say bury the damn things [16:50] but vista? [16:50] pfff [16:50] i love my netbook;) [16:50] on it now:P [16:50] samsung nc10 [16:51] perfect little machine..brilliant for travelling [16:51] use lubuntu/xubuntu/win7 all run fine on them [16:51] the hampshire police had a thingie in sainsbury's which allowed you to sign up for some spam service they're offering. it was running vista. [16:51] heh [16:51] vista ugh [16:51] this was on wednesday [16:51] i dont think i used it for more than a day [16:51] stuck with xp then onto 7 [16:51] for my windows adventures [16:52] mappps: you probably just have very low standards on how a machine should perform ;) [16:52] daftykins, nice to see such a closed mind at work - your comment re netbooks... you obviously have never heard of Ubuntu MATE ;) [16:52] pfff [16:52] :) [16:52] Vista is terrible yeah, 7 was a great improvement [16:52] yea [16:52] and in fact 10 is to 7 as 7 is to Vista, so far [16:52] really? [16:52] I#ll try 10 eventually..i've got the ISO dl but not got round to it [16:52] SuperEngineer: closed mind? netbooks sucked when they came out, in the bin they belong [16:53] (well electronics recycling ideally) [16:53] pfff [16:53] il have them all then [16:53] mappps: probably the wrong version now, it's on build 10074 right now [16:53] il give netbooks a good home [16:53] yea will be an old build [16:53] wll grab a new build later [16:53] definitely keen for it to go gold :D [16:53] rumoured release of July apparently [16:53] what's gold mean? [16:54] production i guess [16:54] yes, final [16:54] i love netbooks [16:54] ya [16:54] though in MS terms it's typically RTM - release to manufacturing [16:54] yay [16:54] what ne you got zmoylan-pi [16:55] i still have my olpc and a hp netbook with a 14hour battery life [16:55] nice [16:55] 14hr is impressive [16:55] slow but it just keeps going [16:55] you need that time to get anything finished ;) [16:56] well i can off load processing jobs to servers and desktops nearby while i sit in garden with decent keyboard and battery life. [16:57] ultrabooks which were meant to replace them have gone nowhere. the netbook has come back in a new guise as chromebooks [16:57] even ms were flogging cheap windows laptops that were netbooks in all but name [16:57] meh, my asus i5 sandybridge does 10hrs [16:58] some people can't get by with the small screens and keyboards but for me as someone who uses public transport i prefer small [16:58] that FHD Dell XPS 13 does 15hrs :D [17:00] FHD: It's Flippin' HD Dammit [17:00] that's what you said fhd :-) [17:02] Full HD [17:02] as sadly HD beans 1280x720 up :( [17:02] beans!? means [17:02] this keyboard is odd [17:03] aye [17:03] 720 = CHD aka Crud HD [17:03] :D [17:03] or NRHD : Not Really HD [17:04] PTTTHD, pretender to the throne HD! [17:04] or HHWGYMNHD aka HA HA We Got Your Money Now HD [17:05] * zmoylan-pi waits for i can't belive it's not hd [17:05] speaking of which, you know butter.. I can't believe it's not "I can't believe it's not butter" [17:05] :D [17:06] and related, don't try to spoonerism the "Vicker of Dibley" [17:07] have I spelled that right? [17:07] vicar [17:09] :D [17:10] ugh i plugged my secondary screen in over VGA, text on here is so blurry XD [17:10] them thar first world problems [17:10] or 1.1 since it's Guernsey [17:10] * zmoylan-pi wonders if i can still get my mitts on a working cga monitor... [17:11] think my old man's hiding an amiga one from my mum somewhere :D [17:11] I've got a black-n-white cga monitor from an AMSTRAD PC1512 [17:12] zmoylan-pi, hang around the electronics skip at your local recycling centr... you'll probably own one within an hour! [17:15] my dads mate calls that place Meerkey alley [17:15] er Meerkat [17:15] meerkey alleys are where the dirty women live [17:16] I don't mean dirty as in grubby, either! :-p [17:17] * zmoylan-pi remebers when dec in ireland threw out a skip load of alpha powered workstations. word went out on the grapevine and a lad from the office snagged one onto his scooter... kids were hauling them away on skateboards as he left [17:17] haha [17:19] Good morning peeps :) [17:21] I used to work in dec's old factory. I took a peek around, but there's nothing left [17:23] * popey generates openstreetmap tiles for portugal for the lulz [17:23] wonder how much disk space this will take [17:25] cheaper than the roaming rates :-) [17:27] exactly :) [17:28] making my own little offline osm webapp [21:51] didn't this channel used to be a lot more full? [22:27] Hey folks, I've got two raspberry pis that were given to me by a friend, it looks like they may both be broken though. I'll start off with the most functional one, It turns on, starts to boot raspbian, then just boot loops. I had it boot once or twice, but it froze after a few seconds. Any ideas? [22:29] * penguin42 assumes you tried with different SDs ? [22:29] penguin42: 3 different SDs, one of which is an official Raspberry pi one [22:30] and different power supplies etc? [22:30] yup [22:31] have you got a working Pi ? [22:31] nope [22:31] hmm, neither have I - I just thought it would be good to test the SD/Powersupply etc combination with a good Pi [22:32] yea [22:32] have you tested the sd cards? [22:32] I mean I have it on a 1A charger that was designed for the tiny TP-Link router [22:32] ali1234: nope [22:32] there's probably a reason why you got given this stuff [22:32] ali1234: yea, he died :P [22:32] how inconsiderate [22:32] indeed [22:32] but I know he treated his stuff real bad, so it's no wonder if it's broken [22:33] test the SD cards first [22:33] Azelphur: Have you got an SD card of your own you could try writing ? [22:33] nope [22:33] ali1234: how would I test them? :) [22:33] put it in an SD card reader and try to read it? [22:34] oh [22:34] yeh, checking you can do a full read dd if=/dev/sdwhatever of=/dev/null bs=1024k [22:34] ali1234: yea they all pass that test obviously, I had to write the OS to them.. [22:34] second get a bigger power supply [22:35] ali1234: I tried them on my Bolse smart charger that does 2.4 on a port I think [22:35] 1A is not enough for the original pi with a keyboard and mouse and HDMI plugged in to it [22:35] I have power, hdmi and sd, NOTHING else [22:35] 2A should be though [22:35] chargers aren't much good either, they sag under load [22:35] consider that you only need 4.2V to charge a lipo [22:44] I tried a bunch of different ones, the ones for my Tablet, and even a USB Battery, none of them brought it to life [22:47] I had heard the Pi was fussy [22:47] but I don't have one [23:09] sounds broken then
