[00:25] Hi [04:09] Hello, I'm trying to get a wireless USB dongle working on an old Acer TravelMate 2301LCI laptop, running Xubuntu 12.04 (can't use newer because the thing lacks, or claims to lack, PAE). I got one that reported support for Ubuntu 12.04, and I'm trying to follow the steps here: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1949996 But when it gets to "modprobe rt5370sta" it returns a fatal error "Module rt5370sta not found". It worked once in the past, a while ago [04:11] I do see rt5572sta which came up in the "make install" step, under lsmod, but "Used By" for that line is blank. [05:18] Good morning you peeps? How is everyone? [05:24] Quick question, I popped 15.04 on my laptop yesterday and the XFCE clock in the tool bar is only displaying UTC time, not my local time. I have told it I am in Europe/Gibraltar, I have done a 'dpkg-reconfigure tzdata' but it's still 2 hours out. Never had this issue beffore on Xubuntu, any ideas? [07:34] I have xubuntu 14.04 and I've removed the volume widget from the bottom bar now my laptop is on mute and I don't know how to unmute it :(, I've tired to add the volume widget back but it's not in the list, also I tried volume control and set it to 100% but that didn't unmute my laptop, any ideas? [07:34] I found it :D [07:35] thanks anyway === Rayner is now known as Rayne [09:17] http://pasteboard.co/blcKZKV.png [09:34] Aldebaran: did you ask any question or have you just linked a screenshot? [09:36] as such issues have not yet [09:39] do you have a problem? I am not sure if I understand you correctly [09:43] There is one issue, the differences between the driver fglrx & fglrx-update and what to put? http://pasteboard.co/bnfPQ23.png [09:47] fglrx-updates may be a newer driver version [09:47] Aldebaran: i recommend fglrx [09:48] thx [12:25] У кого нибудь эта штуковина работает? Странички хоть открывает? http://pasteboard.co/bxSzb6h.png [13:49] I just installed 15.04. Works great, thanks all! [15:00] hello world [15:01] So it did compile :) [15:01] :p [18:48] hello all [18:53] when i run the command line to upgrade from 14.04 to 15.04 [18:53] There is no such command line, since you have to upgrade to 14.10 first. [18:53] you can not upgrade from 14.04 to 15.04 [18:53] directly* [18:54] sudo do-release-upgrade [18:54] Thats not upgrading from 14.04 to 15.04 [18:54] so i mean from 14.04 to 14.10 and then to 15.04 [18:54] So either you are updating from 14.04 to 14.10 or from 14.10 to 15.04 [18:54] what command line do i need to enter then [18:54] okay so from 14.04 to 14.10 [18:54] for now [18:55] You cannot update from 14.04 to 15.04 directly. [18:55] open software centre, edit menu, sources, update tab, enable "normal upgrade" [21:37] Quick question for anyone that can answer: what was the last Xubuntu version ISO that was small enough to fit on CD? [21:41] DVD 900 mb [21:41] Bay DVD-R [21:42] Afdal: A quick check tells me 12.10 [21:42] But you do know that it is EOL? [21:42] thanks [21:42] EOL? [21:43] End of life...not supported anymore. [21:43] of course [21:43] It's easy enough to update to the latest though [21:43] once installed [21:43] from 12.10 that will be fun :) [21:44] I actually did it one already [21:44] couple weeks ago on a laptpo [21:44] took a while [21:44] but it werked [21:44] did it once* [21:45] would you recommend using [21:45] 12.10 or 12.04 [21:45] for the purposes of CD-based installation [21:45] 14.04 [21:46] CD-based >.> [21:46] 12.04 was an LTS release wasn't it [21:46] does that matter anymore [21:47] i would still recommend 14.04 [21:47] yes, and it be quicker upgrading from LTS to LTS...you'd have to do 14.04>14.10>15.04 [21:47] yes to what [21:47] [15:45] for the purposes of CD-based installation [21:47] <.< [21:47] 12.04>14.04 [21:47] ah [21:47] hmm [21:47] pick a lubuntu alternate iso, install minimal, get the rest from the internet [21:48] that's an option too [21:48] I just wanted to know the last CD-sized xubuntu for this sort of thing [21:48] why lubuntu alternate iso instead of ubuntu minimal CD? [21:49] ah, sure mini should work as well [21:49] what made you recommend that though :o [21:51] Afdal, i sometimes just forget it is there and lubuntu ist the last derivate with an alternate cd [21:52] wait [21:52] are you saying xubuntu project dumped their alternate isos? [21:52] since 12.10 there is only an alternate cd for lubuntu [21:53] oh [21:53] bummer :/ [21:53] what was the reason for getting rid of that option? [21:53] dunno, maybe somebody else here can answer this question [21:54] Does it have to do with ditching CD support? [21:54] don't care about iso size anymore so just consolidated all the different parts of desktop and alternative into one? [21:57] Afdal, the lubuntu alternate should have more packages in the CD repository than Minimal CD [21:58] might speed up the installation a bit [22:01] ah [22:01] and these are all [22:01] non-distro-related packages? [22:01] not lubuntu specific [22:03] Never tried lubuntu before myself [22:03] how does lxde compare to fxce [22:03] err [22:03] xfce [22:07] lxde is a little lighter [22:07] (but that comes at the price of features) [22:07] at least, as far as I understand on a general level [22:16] Afdal, i was not talking about the lxde related packages … minimal cd downloads pretty much everything from the internet except for the textmode installer [22:19] yeah I know [22:20] but does the lubuntu alternate have lxde related stuff on it before download? [22:21] when installing from lubuntu alternate?! [22:21] yeah [22:21] if you install lubuntu of course =D [22:21] but if you choose minimal installation, it will only install ubuntu-minimal [22:30] oh you mean [22:30] choose minimal installation from the lubuntu alternate iso? [22:31] yepp [22:33] I see [22:33] neat [22:33] thanks for the tip
