trollixxHi. I've got several problems with my Qt 5 app on Ubuntu 14.04. It uses a global shortcut to hide/show window its window. The first problem occurs when window appears (after it's been hidden with a shortcut) and its global menu is missing.01:26
trollixxAnother bug is about widgets missing focus highlighting after window is shown again. For example, QLineEdit not showing focus higlight, while it is focused in fact and accepts user input.01:26
trollixxI am building the app with Qt 5.2.1 which is provided by 14.04.01:27
trollixxDE: Unity01:28
=== chriadam is now known as chriadam|away
Mirvtrollixx: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/appmenu-qt5 is the place for global menu related bugs08:04
Mirvtrollixx: the latter one could be a Qt bug. we're already at Qt 5.4.1 within the phone development.08:06
trollixxMirv: hm, I haven't tried 5.4.1 on Ubuntu 14.0408:06
trollixxI guess there's no PPA for end users...08:07
trollixxThis https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/appmenu-qt/+bug/775278 looks like my bug08:07
ubot5Ubuntu bug 775278 in appmenu-qt (Ubuntu) "Global menu disappearing on KDE Apps that minimize to tray" [High,Fix released]08:07
trollixxBut it was fixed long time ago08:07
trollixxMirv: Should I reopen the old bug or create a new one? It's so old, but looks exactly like my problem. The only difference I use app indicator instead of tray icon to hide app window.08:34
Mirvtrollixx: no, no 5.4.x PPA for 14.04 unfortunately. bug 775278 sounds like yours except that it's for 'appmenu-qt' ie Qt 4.08:56
ubot5bug 775278 in appmenu-qt (Ubuntu) "Global menu disappearing on KDE Apps that minimize to tray" [High,Fix released] https://launchpad.net/bugs/77527808:56
Mirvtrollixx: one can use Qt 5.4 inside the Ubuntu SDK emulator though, but the emulator is currently targetting phone only so it's not really an option..08:58
Mirvtrollixx: I've asked sil2100 to join here who has worked on appmenu-qt5, to ask whether he'd like the same bug to be reused or not08:59
Mirvsil2100: just asking whether bug #775278 could be marked as affecting appmenu-qt5 too, or a new bug opened? trollixx is seeing a similar problem when using app indicator to hide/show an app09:00
ubot5bug 775278 in appmenu-qt (Ubuntu) "Global menu disappearing on KDE Apps that minimize to tray" [High,Fix released] https://launchpad.net/bugs/77527809:00
sil2100hm, I would maybe create a new bug as this one is very old09:02
sil2100And basically the codebase for appmenu and appmenu-qt5 is different09:02
Mirvtrollixx: ok, ^ so create a new bug, against appmenu-qt509:03
sil2100trollixx, Mirv: if you could give me the link to the new bug once it's created I would be grateful09:19
mivoligohi, anyone knows what happened  to https://developer.ubuntu.com/api/qml/sdk-14.10/ ?10:01

mivoligodholbach: mhall119: also links from here do not work: https://developer.ubuntu.com/en/apps/qml/api/10:07

ahayzenany ideas how to join it lol14:58
ahayzenmhall119, oh no it works now ignore me :)14:59
mhall119ahayzen: yeah, we've been fixing room names15:00
rickspencer3zbenjamin, balloons so after updating to 15.04, autopilot stopped running15:14
rickspencer3I get this error:15:14
rickspencer3                            border.color: "black"15:14
rickspencer3oopw15:14
rickspencer3this error:15:14
rickspencer3RuntimeError: Unable to find package 'flash.rickspencer3' in the click manifest.15:14
rickspencer3I'd like to demo autopilot in 46 minutes, does this look familiar?15:14
balloonsrickspencer3, you should build your app before running15:15
balloonspresumably that's why it's looking for the click, when you want to run a local instance15:15
akiva-thinkpadrickspencer3, i'll join you  :) considering I have written a plugin for it15:15
rickspencer3balloons, I hit the build button, then ran  the run script and got the same error15:17
rickspencer3I have run it on the device many times, so I assume that it has built a click package15:17
balloonsrickspencer3, does your app contain compiled code? I didn't think it did, but that's when I've seen that error. A bigger log would help, plus I can try locally if you give an lp branch15:17
rickspencer3no it does not15:17
rickspencer3balloons, https://code.launchpad.net/~rick-rickspencer3/+junk/flash215:18
rickspencer3balloons, http://pastebin.ubuntu.com/10990430/15:20
zbenjamini get : RuntimeError: Unable to instantiate any backends X11: UnicodeDecodeError('utf-8', b'\xc0\xa8\xb2\x14', 0, 1, 'invalid start byte')15:22
rickspencer3zbenjamin, what does it all mean?15:22
zbenjaminseems i cannot run any autopilot tests ....15:22
rickspencer3this used to work fine15:22
rickspencer3oh, autopilot in general is broken?15:22
rickspencer3nice15:22
zbenjaminhmm maybe related to that? https://bugs.launchpad.net/autopilot/+bug/143270015:23
ubot5Ubuntu bug 1432700 in autopilot (Ubuntu) "Autopilot3 on vivid desktop fails: "RuntimeError: Unable to instantiate any backends"" [Undecided,New]15:23
zbenjaminrickspencer3: but you seem to not get that error15:23
rickspencer3zbenjamin, am I dead in the water? is there way to run them in my emulator?15:26
rickspencer3that I can learn and set up quickly?15:26
zbenjaminrickspencer3: good question, i only ran them locally .. But afaik there is a way to run tests on a device.15:27
zbenjaminballoons: ^^do you know how?15:27
balloonssorry, pc crashed15:27
balloonsok, so let me look at your code finally15:27
balloonsok, so indeed it seems the error is simple. It's attempting to launch the click (because that's the default if it fails to find anything else)15:29
akiva-thinkpadballoons, oh jeepers. I don't have a phone (ironically.), so I can't verify my youtube account, which means I can't create a hangout15:29
balloonsakiva-thinkpad, but you can join one right?15:29
akiva-thinkpadyeah I think so...15:30
balloonsakiva-thinkpad, then I'll make it15:30
akiva-thinkpadballoons, thanks15:30
akiva-thinkpadits after lunch15:30
balloonszbenjamin, didn't the qml template updates land? this is old stuff15:31
zbenjaminballoons: which ones?15:31
dholbachjdstrand, do you think we should SRU bug 1449368?15:31
ubot5bug 1449368 in click-reviewers-tools (Ubuntu) "Invalid framework "ubuntu-sdk-15.04"" [High,Fix committed] https://launchpad.net/bugs/144936815:31
zbenjaminballoons: https://code.launchpad.net/qtcreator-plugin-ubuntu/+activereviews  nothing related to that is open15:32
balloonsohh, I think this is related to the file naming thing15:33
balloonssince he migrated to 15.0415:33
zbenjaminballoons: filenaming thing?15:34
balloonsI seem to remember something about autopilot and the default qml file name matching the qml object type.. perhaps not15:35
zbenjaminballoons: can we fix it inside rickspencer3's project so he has something to show?15:36
balloonszbenjamin, already on it.. it's just poorly written logic in the launch_application() function15:37
zbenjaminballoons: yeah just figured out too, it does not find the Main.qml15:38
balloonszbenjamin, right.. he has the project_name hardcoded to Flash, and the _get_app_qml_source_path is weird15:39
balloonsrickspencer3, I'm trying to redo the file to be more sane, but if you want a 2 second fix, change the projectname from 'Flash' to flash2 (in my case, since I branched and that was the folder name. make it match)15:42
zbenjaminballoons: http://pastebin.ubuntu.com/10990545/15:43
rickspencer3in which file?15:43
zbenjaminthat makes it work15:43
balloonsrickspencer3, in __init__.py15:43
zbenjaminrickspencer3: http://pastebin.ubuntu.com/10990545/15:43
balloonsright, just like zbenjamin shows15:43
zbenjaminballoons: the problem seems to be that the initial project used Flash as the directory name. But downloading it from the bzr renamed the dir to flash215:44
balloonsright.. again, that __init__.py file really needs help15:44
rickspencer3thanks guys15:44
rickspencer3that "flash2" came from my naming scheming when I branched :/15:44
rickspencer3but it works now15:44
rickspencer3so \o/15:44
zbenjaminrickspencer3: \o/15:44
zbenjaminrickspencer3: hah you where faster to cheer :D15:45
zbenjaminballoons: we should file a bug for that... "Removing the root directory of a project breaks running tests"15:50
balloonszbenjamin, it's all in the template15:50
balloonswhich I notice is different now.. not sure when rick created this15:51
zbenjaminballoons: does a new one not have the same prob?15:51
bzoltanjdstrand: dholbach: I do suggest to SRU both the c-r-t and the qtc-u-p16:01
bzoltanin fact we are already working on the release to be SRUd16:02
dholbachok16:02
ahayzenmhall119, popey said you would be best to ask this ;) ... a while back i changed my lp username and i don't think i logged out of summit.ubuntu.com, now when i try to login i get "The username (ahayzen) with which you tried to log in is already in use for a different account.", any ideas how i can resolve this?16:59

sil2100trollixx: oh, excellent17:19
trollixxsil2100: I've seen that Python apps have to re-register through D-Bus (https://github.com/kovidgoyal/calibre/commit/085809422605b410f9571bdfc51b18884c4fa502) to avoid that problem, but I just use plain Qt menu bar.17:22

InglebardHi, someone tries to use sensors in an app ?19:24
akiva-thinkpadInglebard, hmmmm?19:24
akiva-thinkpadInglebard, right now the ubuntu online summit is happening. Would you like to join some of the sessions?19:25
kenvandineInglebard, are you having a specific problem?19:25
kenvandinei've used the accelerometer, works fine19:25
kenvandineand there's the level app, works19:25
InglebardHi akiva-thinkpad, i'm sorry but i can't join a session.19:26
Inglebardhi Kenvandine, i would like to use a compass sensors but I didn't know why onreadingchanged done nothing.19:27
kenvandinedid you start it?19:28
kenvandinei know for the Accelerometer i added to add this19:28
kenvandine Component.onCompleted: start()19:29
kenvandines/i added/i had/19:30
InglebardI set active:true19:30
kenvandinenot sure that's enough19:30
InglebardI just try Component.onCompleted: start() but it changed nothing19:30
kenvandine:/19:30
InglebardBut I use a bq aquaris 4.519:30
Inglebardhttp://www.bq.com/gb/ubuntu.html : it says ecompass, it is a problem ?19:31
ogra_i dont think the sensor is hooked up to the framework yet19:31
ogra_there is "SensorStatus" in the store ... check with that19:32
kenvandineInglebard, you can also check for the return value from start()19:33
kenvandineit returns a bool, true if it started successfully19:33
Inglebardkenvandine: it returns false19:35
kenvandinemaybe that doesn't work on the bq19:35
Inglebardogra_: I am dowloading, I check19:35
kenvandinelooks like the backend for the compass isn't hooked up, or something19:37
kenvandinei see no data on mako and krillin19:37
Inglebardogra_: On SensorStatus compass tab says : No data available19:37
kenvandinebut Accelerometer is fine19:37
Inglebardok ogra_ and kenvandine, so I will wait.19:38
InglebardAnd I have also a completely different question, someone knows if it's or will be possible to use spinbox and colordialog ?19:41
aquariusbfiller, ping: sorry, I missed the phone roadmap session earlier, but am watching it now, and you mention that browser tabs will restore their navigation history. Has the thing where they get killed and so reload almost always when you switch away and back also been fixed?19:49
bfilleraquarius: that is a separate issue where there are being killed or partially killed by OOM killer, that's being worked on but is a different issue19:50
bfilleraquarius: we're looking at ways to optimize memory/cache so the views don't use as much memory in the first place19:51
aquariusbfiller, ah, OK. I wasn't sure if they were losing history just because they were being OOMed. No worries. The reloading thing is, I have to say, really annoying, especially since it prevents file uploads because the tab gets OOM killed while we're in the content picker :)19:52
bfilleraquarius: this is on BQ?19:52
aquariusbfiller, yep.19:53
bfilleraquarius: does it happen all the time or only if you have a lot of apps open?19:53
aquariusbfiller, good question. I'm not sure. (Although surely it shouldn't matter? Background apps are suspended, right? That's the point of the lifecycle stuff?)19:54
aquariusI can test that.19:54
bfilleraquarius: right they are, but something must be putting memory pressure on the system in addition to a single tab in the browser19:55
aquariusbfiller, ok, I have just tried it with no other apps running and I can actually upload images!19:57
aquariusso it's got something to do with either lots of apps running, or memory leaks which have eaten all the memory (because my phone's been running a while)19:57
bfilleraquarius: probably a combo19:57
aquariusI rebooted it before doing this test, so everything works as expected in a brand new booted phone running nothing but the browser. Which is nice, but most of the time it's not in that environment :)19:58
aquariusbfiller, that upload thing and not being able to copy/paste from web apps are my top two throw-the-phone-at-the-wall infuriators with the phone, other than the word suggestions which don't belong to you :-)19:58
akiva-thinkpadDS-McGuire, are you a member yet?19:59
DS-McGuireakiva-thinkpad, Sorry I have been AFK. What do you mean?19:59
bfilleraquarius: word suggestions are me too :) we're working on it. you can switch it off for now if it's not working well for you19:59
bfillerwell my team anyway19:59
aquariusbfiller, ah, right. I have already spoken to Elleo about it :)19:59
bfillercopy/paste is a huge limitation20:00
akiva-thinkpadDS-McGuire, ubuntu member20:00
bfillerneed support in oxide for it20:00
DS-McGuireakiva-thinkpad, Oh right. No I am not :P20:00
aquariusif most apps were not web apps then I wouldn't mind the copy/paste stuff so much, but when 75% of the apps I use are oxide and I can't c/p in them, it's proper irritating. But you already know this :)20:00
akiva-thinkpadDS-McGuire, neither. Apparently they want more people applying20:01
DS-McGuireakiva-thinkpad, I will apply for sure20:01
bfilleraquarius: I agree20:01
bfilleraquarius: a crappy workaround for the upload, close apps you are not using20:01
akiva-thinkpadDS-McGuire, cool. Do you have a wiki yet?20:01
bfilleraquarius: until we resolve the issue20:01
DS-McGuireakiva-thinkpad, Yeah :D20:01
aquariusbfiller, I missed the phone user feedback session too 'cos was in a meeting, otherwise I'd have said all this there.20:01
aquariusat least there *is* a workaround for that, so I can, in extremis, upload stuff20:02
aquariusthat helps20:02
aquariusI never thought to test that.20:02
aquariusmight have to reboot and *then* upload stuff ;)20:02
akiva-thinkpadDS-McGuire, also on that, someone from the community team will give us a guide for membership on the subreddit20:02
aquariusalso, install web app to home screen is coming to the browser! Big kisses for the man Filler. :)20:03
DS-McGuireakiva-thinkpad, Awesome. When will they do that?20:03
dobeyaquarius: i think the phone user feedback session was moved to thursday20:32
aquariusooh, maybe I can attend then! cool20:32

streaky_good evening, ubuntu touch question21:20
=== aaron__ is now known as ahoneybun
speck84Hy guys!21:32
speck84somebody can tell me how to make not resizable html5 app in ubuntu touch21:33
speck84the good old css trick with the body tag is not working21:34
streaky_Hello people, could anyone explain if ubuntu touch can be trusted on non ubuntu devices ie androids, or if there's a downloadable Ubuntu touch zip file to be had?21:39
akiva-thinkpadstreaky_, hey21:40
akiva-thinkpadhows it going?21:40
streaky_hello akiva...good to meet a fellow thinkpad21:41
akiva-thinkpadstreaky_, so just to make sure you understand, ubuntu touch is a different linux distribution than android.21:42
akiva-thinkpadsome hardware that runs android, can run Ubuntu Touch21:42
streaky_yes thanks for checking, that's why I'm asking21:43
akiva-thinkpad:)21:43
akiva-thinkpadstreaky_, The most supported phone right now is the nexus 4, a BQ phone, and the Meizu MX421:43
akiva-thinkpadstreaky_, there are other devices that do not have official support, but which do have good community support21:44
akiva-thinkpadstreaky_, for that, you are best to check into this channel here: #ubuntu-touch21:44
akiva-thinkpadthey tend to be more focussed on the hardware side of things. This channel is more geared towards application development21:45
akiva-thinkpadstreaky_, and to that end, if you are interested in learning some application development, then stick around :)21:45
akiva-thinkpadand also for the next two days, we have the ubuntu online summit where you can join many of the teams in meetings, and see how things are coming along21:46
akiva-thinkpadstreaky_, does that answer your inquiry at all?21:46
akiva-thinkpadspeck84, yes, however not me, as I am not a html5 guy21:46
streaky_akiva-thinkpad, ok lol, can't say it would ever make much sense to me...I'm linux gui based for years but don't resort to command line very often21:47
akiva-thinkpadstreaky_, np; we've all been there :)21:47
streaky_but I will follow your advice and take a look at #ubuntu-touch21:48
akiva-thinkpadstreaky_, here, what phone are you interested in putting ubuntu-touch on?21:48
streaky_...you've all been there...but some of us stay there21:48
akiva-thinkpadstreaky_, I know that too. when I first used linux, I had this impression that I would naturally become a developer. After 6 years, I was the same as when I got there, and I really had to push myself to learn programming21:49
streaky_I bought a Dell Streak pro several years ago and it's solid, but it quickly became obsolete and extra roms wheren't forthcoming21:49
akiva-thinkpadit is a huge hump to get over21:49
akiva-thinkpaddell streak pro?21:50
* akiva-thinkpad looks it up21:50
akiva-thinkpadwhat? Dell has a phone?21:50
akiva-thinkpadgosh... how long was I asleep...?21:50
akiva-thinkpadWhat year is this?21:51
streaky_yes, dual core 1.5+ they were selling it in 2011-1221:51
akiva-thinkpadstreaky_, https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Touch/Devices/streak721:51
streaky_infact they were selling them off cheap21:51
akiva-thinkpadif its the dell streak7 then you may have a chance to boot21:52
akiva-thinkpadstreaky_, here is a full list of devices : https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Touch/Devices21:52
streaky_yes I've seen the streak 7 device being catered for but am not sure if the two are compatible21:52
akiva-thinkpadstreaky_, unlikely. Porting these roms are extremely complicated and difficult tasks21:53
akiva-thinkpadI'd say the best option is getting a nexus 4 for cheap, or get the meizu or bq, or wait for the mystery phone mark spoke about21:53
streaky_yes as I've been learning21:53
akiva-thinkpadthat will see the first convergence21:53
akiva-thinkpadspeck84, if I knew html5, I'd let you know.21:55
streaky_sure...it is obviously a different world to these amazing ISOs which can boot any pc you throw them at21:55
akiva-thinkpadstreaky_, yes it is, and the reason is because x86 follows much closer to an ISO standard21:55
speck84akiva thats life21:55
akiva-thinkpadspeck84, are you a html5 developer?21:56
speck84i choose html5 because i much better than qml21:56
speck84i'm a student who choose UT development as a project21:56
akiva-thinkpadspeck84, give qml another shot; its a really fun and easy language.21:57
speck84i'm a bit everithing but nothing serious I learned java c# html5 css php js21:57
speck84not 4 me21:57
akiva-thinkpadspeck84, ah well qml is basically js21:57
akiva-thinkpadspeck84, there is also golang, interested?21:57
speck84i want ale to do the excercise project21:57
akiva-thinkpadand Qt if you are up for a challenge21:58
speck84maby if i have time21:58
speck84i choose html5 app to finish untildeath line21:58
akiva-thinkpadspeck84, I can probably help you with qml for your app. What kind of app will you be making?21:59

speck84it is basicly a currenctconverter with calculator22:00
speck84u know what do u want to have a look?22:00
speck84but is just alpha preview22:01
akiva-thinkpadspeck84, what is the bug though?22:01
akiva-thinkpaddo you have a launchpad for it?22:01
speck84noo not yet22:02
speck84the bug is you can resize the app22:02
=== salem_ is now known as _salem
speck84and its allowed to put on landscape mode22:03
akiva-thinkpadspeck84, and you want it to not be resizable?22:03
speck84yep22:03
akiva-thinkpadand not landscaped?22:03
streaky_akiva-thinkpad: thanks I'll take a look at that list and the nexus 4, cheers22:03
speck84yep22:03
speck84at the moment22:03
akiva-thinkpadstreaky_, if you got the money, might want to save for the meizu mx422:03
speck84many other thing is missing but thats what i wan to do at the moment22:04
streaky_akiva-thinkpad: cool...and then mess with it's mind22:04
akiva-thinkpadstreaky_, heh yep22:06
akiva-thinkpadstreaky_, btw, have you seen this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TShKZLeZzWE22:07
speck84i got it22:15
speck84<meta name="viewport" content="width=device-width, initial-scale=1.0, maximum-scale=1.0, user-scalable=no">22:15
akiva-thinkpadspeck84, nice work :)22:16
streaky_akiva-thinkpad: I'd checked out a few but hadn't seen that one...some very slick videos around...enducing more interest by the day me thinks22:16
akiva-thinkpadstreaky_, yah there is also a proper ad that goes with that,22:17
akiva-thinkpadstreaky_, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-dpfHYpfEXY22:18
akiva-thinkpadits shorter22:18
akiva-thinkpadbut neat and artsy22:18
streaky_akiva-thinkpad: I'm impressed that first things first they brought out a basic model for programmers to work on22:19
akiva-thinkpadstreaky_, yah it was a smart way to do it.22:19
akiva-thinkpadstreaky_, and the SDK is great. You can use QML if you are ui focussed. You can use HTML5 if you are web development focussed. You can use Qt if you are more technically oriented and want more power, and you can use golang if you are on the cutting edge22:21
streaky_akiva-thinkpad: hmm I use Ubuntu studio for video editing and that's my area of meditation...I've never programmed anything but did enjoy "complete linux installer+VNC" and managed to boot up debian on the streak pro22:24
=== benoitc_ is now known as benoitc
streaky_akiva-thinkpad: now if there was a zipped up image of ubuntu-touch that could be initiated using complete linux installer and rendering in VNC then yep, more phones could use it22:32
akiva-thinkpadstreaky_, I wish it were that easy. I tried porting ubuntu to a device... it is terribly terribly terribly complex.22:34
akiva-thinkpadHad to give up.22:34
streaky_akiva-thinkpad: I can imaging, but good for you22:35
akiva-thinkpadstreaky_, do you use kdenlive for editing?22:36
streaky_akiva-thinkpad: yes, kdenlive22:37
akiva-thinkpadstreaky_, I love it. I used to use final cut, and while final cut is more stable...22:37
akiva-thinkpadkdenlive's gui is just plain superior22:37
streaky_akiva-thinkpad: really22:37
akiva-thinkpadstreaky_, I havn't tried the revamped final cut, but yeah22:38
streaky_it's got to be easier than the linux alternatives that's for sure22:38
akiva-thinkpadstreaky_, being able to window everything like you can in kdenlive, really shows the power of Qt.22:38
streaky_ok so that's Qt22:38
akiva-thinkpadstreaky_, well qt with kde libraries22:38
akiva-thinkpada bit different.22:39
streaky_it gives the user to experience real editing standards, layouts etc22:39
streaky_timelines and their user logic22:41
akiva-thinkpadyep22:41
streaky_akiva-thinkpad: good to chat, I'd better shut down for the night22:42
ahoneybundoes anyone know if the clock app can show timezones?22:46
ahoneybunmhall119: my app has over 800 downloads22:51
akiva-thinkpadnight22:51
akiva-thinkpadahoneybun, lol nice, and yes I am pretty sure it can.22:52
ahoneybunooh22:52
