EvilMrBHello - I'm new to this. Does anyone know anything about copyright issues when remastering Xubuntu?12:46
bazhangEvilMrB, more context needed12:49
EvilMrBSure.  I want to create a live DVD for writers using Xubuntu 14.04. Can I use the standard Xubuntu artwork or do I have to create my own. I've done this in Mint and fallen foul of copyright issues with their artowrk.12:50
bazhangfallen afoul how12:51
bazhangubottu, copyright12:52
bazhangthe bot has no idea12:52
EvilMrBYou are not allowed to use their artwork if you intend to sell or even give away your remastered version12:52
EvilMrBI have no idea what that means12:53
bazhanghow would they track and or enforce that12:53
EvilMrBThe software is open source but not the artwork and I don't want to find out the hard way how they enforce it12:54
Picihttp://www.ubuntu.com/legal/terms-and-policies/intellectual-property-policy12:54
Pici"Any redistribution of modified versions of Ubuntu must be approved, certified or provided by Canonical if you are going to associate it with the Trademarks. Otherwise you must remove and replace the Trademarks and will need to recompile the source code to create your own binaries"12:55
EvilMrBThat suggests that the same thing applies, doesn't it?12:56
Pici(IANAL, nor am I condoning this, but it seems to me that a lot of remasters still use the same Ubuntu repositories, while changing the artwork, or even just providing new default packages)12:56
EvilMrBI can see their point but all I would have to do is publish a set of instructions for how people could do what I did and they coud make their own legit versions, but if I do it to save them the bother I'm infringing copyright12:58
EvilMrBThanks for your help folks. I think the IP document tells me what I need to know.13:02
SidneyHello. Help me upgrade my Xubuntu 14.10 to 15.0414:57

GreeningGalaxycan anyone tell me what handles the control-shift-u shortcut for Unicode input in xubuntu?15:14
GreeningGalaxyin most OSs, it appears to be a GTK thing. but I'm seeing it work everywhere, including in Qt apps, in xubuntu.15:14
GreeningGalaxythat's great, but I can't find anything about what makes it work so I can't make it work on Debian/elsewhere.15:15
GreeningGalaxyanybody?15:16
geniiibus somehow15:17
GreeningGalaxyibus? alright15:18
GreeningGalaxyaha, i think I found something15:19
geniiGreeningGalaxy: Looks like "Input method engine" section of http://ibus.googlecode.com/svn/docs/ibus-1.5/index.html might be applicable15:25
GreeningGalaxyhrm15:28
* genii reads http://ibus.googlecode.com/svn/docs/ibus-1.5/IBusHotkeyProfile.html15:29
GreeningGalaxyi found something which is so close, but it only tells how to do it in GNOME 2, and of /course/ GNOME 3 has removed that option because GNOME 3 has no useful settable options15:29

xubuntu07wIs there any big reasen for uppgrade from 14.04.2 LTS to 15.04 ?21:21
geniiNot unless there's some updated application you require which is only available in 15.0421:22
geniiOtherwise since you're on an LTS, better to wait for a year and then go 14.04 to 16.04 directly after that21:23
xubuntu07wOk.. thank you.21:26
