BadLuckRyanIs it possible to resize a partition using the grub command line? GParted usb isnt booting so Super Grub2 Disk is my only alternative.11:57
uioHullo all. I recently installed lubuntu 14.04 and have been having some troubles with booting. It seems that when I shut-down and boot normally it will hang at a black screen, after which I do a hard shut-down (holding down the power button) then booting goes to the grub menu, but stays there, so I have to manually select an opition and then booting goes along normally. Any ideas of what might be going on ??12:56
BadLuckRyanIm using grub4dos trying to boot the Windows kernel (or efi). When i type "chainloader +1" i get "error: invalid EFI file path". What do I do?14:22
holsteinBadLuckRyan: what i did, with my efi hardware was just let the installer deal with it15:12
holsteinim able to boot linux from grub, and grub made an entry for windows15:12
holsteinwhat are you trying to do? dual boot on a machine that is preventing you from installing another OS?15:13
holsteini found a bios setting that both OS's were "happy" with..15:13
BadLuckRyanholstein: its not that easy15:30
holsteinBadLuckRyan: sure.. i suppose, im asking you for specifics about what isnt easy, and why.. since, it actually is that easy, luckily, here on my hardware15:30
holsteini was quite surpised, since, i had seen a lot of issues mentioned..15:30
BadLuckRyanholstein: im trying to get the windows setup.exe to run by doing the chainloader method15:31
holsteinBadLuckRyan: to get what windows setup.exe to run?15:31
BadLuckRyanholstein: the Windows 8.1 setup.exe i mounted.15:32
holsteinif you are saying, you are trying to install windows 8.1, i would follow proceedures for whatever it needs.. i would personally expect it to wipe the drive, or break whatever other OS's are on the drive15:33
holsteini would backup what i have, and plan for it to want to be "the only game in town" so to speak, on the drive15:33
BadLuckRyanholstein: from what i found i have to type "chainloader /path/to/bootmgfw.efi15:34
holsteini might even just give it a normal scenario.. a blank space to install onto.. then, i would reinstall linux afterwards15:34
holsteinBadLuckRyan: you can use the main ubuntu channel since its not related to lubuntu or lxde.. you may find sommeone else who has done what you are trying to do.. or, yyou may get support from microsoft for that software they created15:34
BadLuckRyanholstein: im not worried about that. I've dealt with the "Boot Device Not Found" error a million times. I'll risk it. Besides Windows doesnt overwrite the whole Hard Drive like i want it to15:35
holsteinif you are running some kind of windows updater in windows 7 that updates it to windows 8, i would give it the most basic, and expectedly normmal scenario15:35
BadLuckRyanholstein: ok I'll figure it out, again15:36
Zz4yMYrZX6Does anyone know about progress on this bug? https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xfce4-power-manager/+bug/144624717:00
ubottuUbuntu bug 1446247 in xfce4-power-manager (Ubuntu) "Lubuntu 15.04 - No power indicator in applet indicator" [Medium,Confirmed]17:00
ianorlynZz4yMYrZX6: not sure there is any unfortanetly17:12
Finetundraanyone know if  ubuntuupdates.org is a trustworthy source?17:41
holsteinFinetundra: for what?17:43
holsteinubuntu updates? you use the provided ubuntu default repos for that..17:43
Finetundraa program or package17:44
Finetundraupdates I just use termianl for17:44
holsteinFinetundra: the official ubuntu sources are the "trusted" official ones.. the others will be like a pPA17:44
holstein!ppa17:44
ubottuA Personal Package Archive (PPA) can provide alternate software not normally available in the offical Ubuntu repositories - Looking for a PPA? See https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+ppas - WARNING: PPAs are unsupported third-party packages, and you use them at your own risk. See also !addppa and !ppa-purge17:44
holsteinyou are welcome to trust whatever sources you want..17:45
Finetundrahmm, how do I know if it's trusted?17:45
holsteinFinetundra: ask the creators of the sources.. they are not ubuntu sources.. those are alreadyu setup and trusted, and tested/supported17:45
holsteinwhat are you trying to do?17:46
holsteini wouldnt go and casually add sources.. even if they *are* stating support on some level17:46
Finetundrahmm, I seem to have misspoken.17:50
FinetundraThis is a website that I wish to download a package from.17:51
holsteinsure.. but, you must understand, its not an ubuntu or lubuntu package, so, we cant say its "safe".. i can only say, it can be anything from completely safe, to, malicious17:54
holsteinit'll be up to you to decide to take the risk17:54
Finetundrahow does one install sdl2?18:08
MajBShould be in the repositories.  Open synaptic package manager.18:23
holstein!info sdl218:24
ubottuPackage sdl2 does not exist in vivid18:24
holstein!info sdl2-config18:25
ubottuPackage sdl2-config does not exist in vivid18:25
holstein!info libsdl218:26
ubottuPackage libsdl2 does not exist in vivid18:26
holsteinwell, anyways, theres a ppa i would look into https://launchpad.net/~zoogie/+archive/ubuntu/sdl2-snapshots18:27
