CapsAdminyeah but it's called "Software Center" under applications > settings08:11

xennex81hi peeps10:44
lordievaderHey xennex8110:52
xennex81how are you?10:56
lordievaderDoing good. Got my server back up and running.10:58
xennex81nice10:58
lordievaderIt was annoying, lvm somehow decided a couple lv's were partial...10:59
lordievaderPlus side, I now have plenty of free space :)11:00
xennex81:)11:03
xennex81partial?11:03
lordievaderFor the root-lv I can understand it, a drive failed. The root-lv was mirrored. But for the other lv's I didn't understand it. All the data was there.11:04
xennex81you mean in a raid setting?11:05
lordievaderxennex81: Yes, lvm can do raid.11:05
xennex81I don't know how LVM works with multiple drives11:05
xennex81ok11:06
lordievaderIt pretty much uses mdraid for the raid configs.11:06
xennex81ok, I just have a debian box with raid but it is just multiple partitions, no LVM11:06
lordievaderLVM is awesome :)11:07
xennex81I know :)11:07
xennex81It is lovely to be able to remove and create volumes at will.11:07

ShalokShalomeven automatic partitioning with uefi now11:20
alvinok. And maybe even encrypted LVM with logical volumes of you choice instead of 1 big root?11:20
ShalokShalomKogaion, KaOS, both Netrunner Versions (Kubuntu and Manjaro), Manjaro itself, Tanglu, BBQLinux, Chakra, Kannolo, OpenMandriva,11:20

CapsAdminin kubuntu 15  i tried to assign some shortcuts but reset the settings to default but now it seems like a lot of shortcuts went poof11:31
CapsAdminalso when i click reset in the shortcut settings it duplicates all the propertiers11:34
CapsAdminalt tab isn't working anymore and ctrl s in kate says all the shortcuts are ambiguous11:34
xennex81you know I'm actually happy to let other people work out the bugs until I step into Kubuntu 15 ;-)12:01
xennex81i think "poor souls" ;D12:02
xennex81i just ran into one bug just one, in Kubuntu 14.10 the option to add additional file types does not work (in Dolphin) I have tried to add a .tc filetype for truecrypt containers, but alas.12:03
xennex81I've added the file association, it is definitely there, and yet Dolphin doesn't show it12:09
=== gangsta is now known as anapodos
xennex81oh it required a log-out12:13
xennex81I have my file association now12:13
xennex81I just run TrueCrypt from a desktop icon and I have it set to always run as root, this way it even retains the mounts during logout and it handles the permissions perfectly12:19
xennex81it just mounts them under my user12:20
xennex81the only reason I use Kubuntu is because it looks so nice :P :P >D12:20
ShalokShalomxennex81: so the only reason, why you use kubuntu, is plasma12:22
xennex81well it is pleasant to hang around in this system when it looks so nice12:22
xennex81compared to windows12:23
xennex81only the truecrypt icon offends, it is written for gnome and the icon doesn't display a transparent background12:24
xennex81it tries to use Nautilus when I want to open a share12:24
xennex81Nautilus doesn't work well in Kubuntu12:25

ShalokShalomhe isnt the only one and to port a app from one toolkit to the other means a great effort :)12:37
ShalokShalomso they do it for a reason, imho12:37
xennex81yeah12:37
xennex81the pygtk documentation was ripped from the C documentation but only incompletely12:39
ShalokShalomah, ok12:39
ShalokShalomnice to know12:39
xennex81so I couldn't really find out why something worked the way it did (or didn't work the way it should have) until I read the C source code to GTK or PyGTK12:39
ShalokShalomi guess the compatibility for other plattforms and the resulting support by more devs is another pro12:39
xennex81the difficult thing about Qt is that I do not only need to learn C++, but also a complete programming framework12:41
ShalokShalomxennex81: why do you need to learn C++ ?12:41
ShalokShalomwrite it in each language you will12:42

BluesKaj /var/log/syslog20:05
capsadminthe system section in KSystemLog is a gui interface for that?20:06
heeenW: Failed to fetch http://ppa.launchpad.net/kubuntu-ppa/backports/ubuntu/dists/wily/main/binary-amd64/Packages  404  Not Found20:07
heeenwhats wrong here20:07
heeenhm only for vivid20:12
BluesKajheeen, the ppas for kubuntu 15.10 are still in the kubuntu-next staging ppas, like this one https://launchpad.net/~kubuntu-ppa/+archive/ubuntu/next-staging20:18
heeenBluesKaj: what is the uri I can paste into muon for that20:20
heeenppa:something20:20
genii!staging20:20
geniiHm20:20
BluesKajand this https://launchpad.net/~kubuntu-ppa/+archive/ubuntu/next-stage220:21
heeenit says don't use...20:21
capsadminlol20:22
regeditwell well20:22
regeditjust installed kubuntu20:22
BluesKajheeen, click at the" technical detal'20:22
regedittrying out linux world coming from a life of Windoes :)20:23
BluesKajheeen, well, that's for users who want more stability , but if you want to test the latest packages and upgrades to those packages , those are ppas you need ,and you can find out more at #kubuntu-devel20:24
regeditso; i'd like to setup a local LAMP, but I already seem to have mysql for Akonadi purposes20:24
heeenBluesKaj: how hard would it be to downgrade20:25
heeenif something fails20:25
BluesKaj!lamp | regedit20:25
ubotturegedit: LAMP is an acronym for Linux-Apache-MySQL-PHP. However, the term is often used for setups using alternative but different software, such as Perl or Python instead of PHP, and Postgres instead of MySQL. For help with setting up LAMP on Ubuntu, see  https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ApacheMySQLPHP - See also the Server CD installation process.20:25
regeditBluesKaj: thanks, I hope it covers how to deal with Akonadi's mysql20:26
BluesKajregedit, http://techtutorials.wikia.com/wiki/Kubuntu_Installing_LAMP20:27
BluesKajheeen, well if you're worried and m=need more stability just  don't install from those ppas20:29
regeditBluesKaj: still doesn't seem to take into account akonadi... maybe it's not an issue?20:30
BluesKajregedit, sory i don't use konadi , and I'm not sure if it supports lamp20:32
BluesKajakonadi that is20:32
capsadminis the only option in alt f2 > system settings > desktop behavior > workspace "show informational tips" ?20:32
capsadmini could've sworn that's where i changed my desktop to be a folder earlier20:33
capsadmin(i'm still having the issue where the desktop is gone but everything else works fine)20:33
regeditBluesKaj: well it's not really related to Lamp, but it doea have its own mysql server already installed & running off its own data folder20:33
regedit*does20:33
regeditBluesKaj: which seems problematic if i want to have a "generic" mysql running for like web purposes20:34
capsadminin my offline documentation i have no workspace documentation either lol20:35
capsadminit says "Documentation not Found"20:35
capsadminso i'm guessing i'm missing the workspace component of kde5?20:35
BluesKajyeah , regedit , akonadi is strictly for PIM Personal Information Management storage service , quote "It provides a common framework for applications to store and access mail, calendars, addressbooks, and other PIM data."20:36

BluesKajcapsadmin, are you installing ubuntu then adding KDE/kubuntu-desktop afterwards?20:37
=== Yukkino is now known as Dhs92
capsadmini installed latest kubuntu from the website and after that i added the ppa stuff to update to latest kde and then installed the recommended nvidia drivers20:38
regediti'm going to guess/assume i can install mysql proper regardless of akonadi's mysql, let's see what happens...20:38
capsadmini got the same issue before but that was even before i tried the latest kde from the ppa thing20:39
capsadmini wanted to try and install latest from the ppa thing to see if that resolved it earlier but it didn't20:39
capsadmini ran this:20:40
capsadminsudo add-apt-repository ppa:kubuntu-ppa/backports20:40
capsadminsudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get dist-upgrade20:40
BluesKajregedit, not a good idea, recommend you install ubuntu-server then add the kubuntu desktop during the install20:40
capsadminright after clean install of 15.0420:40
capsadmin(without updates and third party software)20:40
=== oleg is now known as Guest34623
capsadminoh20:43
BluesKajcapsadmin, did you add the signing key for that ppa?20:43
capsadminrunning plasmashell in konsole seemed to start it..20:43
capsadmini didn't but i actually got something regarding that earlier and i just shrugged it off lol20:44
capsadminbut yeah if i run plasmashell in konsole it starts the desktop20:44
capsadminthat's really odd20:45
capsadmini did try sudo apt-get install --reinstall plasma-workspace20:45
capsadminlet me try restarting to see if it exits again like before20:45
BluesKajsuggest you do ,  sudo apt-key adv --keyserver keyserver.ubuntu.com --recv-keys 8AC93F7A20:45
BluesKajcapsadmin,^20:46
capsadmindone, but why do i have to? and why doesn't it work at all if i don't?20:46

virtman7some users reported the missing task bar or whatever it's called on the left20:47
virtman7a missing taskbar *20:48
BluesKajrun an update/upgrade/dist-upgrade again, capsadmin20:48
virtman7happened to me and fixed it out20:48
capsadminBluesKaj: nothing to be upgraded20:49
BluesKajvirtman7, are talking about ubuntu or kubuntu...it's called the panel, the taskbar resides in the panel20:49
capsadminvirtman7: on login my screen just went black but i could still launch stuff like with alt f220:49
virtman7ah. Thanks... I'm using u. Unity20:49
capsadminbut launching plasmashell created the taskbar for me, is that's what you mean?20:49
BluesKajthen join #ubuntu virtman7 , this is kubuntu support20:50
virtman7capsadmin> I was able tu successfully log into the desktop, except no panel20:50
virtman7so I created a new folder and new document20:50
virtman7and went from there with right-clocks to access apps20:50
virtman7then I went on and fixed my missing panel by reading a forum discussion20:51
BluesKajvirtman7, were talking about KDE/plasma desktop here , not Unity20:51
virtman7sure20:51
BluesKajsure what ?20:52
virtman7just suggesting. You could extrapolate some ideas in order to fix other issues on KDE/Plasma20:53
virtman7anyhow........20:53
virtman7tryin' to be helpful.20:54
BluesKajvirtman7, extrapolation has nothing to do with it ...entirely different desktops20:54
virtman7OK20:55

capsadminor is this kinda silly22:21
