bjrohanHello all. I just upgraded from 14.04 to 15.04. Without my changing any settings, my wireless internet connection is sporadic, and when connected doesn't have the bandwidth that it had in 14.04.00:51
bjrohanAny suggestions what may be wrong?00:51

BluesKajHiyas all10:45

witheldI have a frankenbug and it's so insane I don't think I can report it...13:56
lordievaderwitheld: Frankenbug?13:57
witheldIf I play Counter Strike Global offensive with the sink created by loading the pulseaudio module module-virtual-surround-sink, kwin_x11 suddenly starts using 100% CPU when I start the second match before crashing13:58
witheldNo one will ever take this seriously13:58
lordievaderwitheld: Is the option to disable effects for fullscreen windows enabled?13:59
witheldNo because ordinarily I use kwin's vsync which is rather better then most game's vsync14:00
lordievaderEnable that and see if the problem goes away.14:01
witheldBut if I stop using module-virtual-surround-sink(I don't even have to unload it, I simply have to not use it)it stops crashing14:01
witheldIt's fucking insane14:01
lordievaderwitheld: Please watch your language.14:01
witheldAnyway gonna try that14:02
witheldit crahsed even faster14:04
witheldSo...I'll just live without virtual surround in CSGO14:05

eXistenZeHey there14:36
EvilRoeyhello eXistenZe :) for some reason I haven't seen you in a bit.14:41
eXistenZeGetting used to kubuntu... Don't need help every hour now :)14:43
eXistenZebeen here yesterday or a couple days ago though14:43
eXistenZehum... new bug... icon search (when trying to change a desktop link icon) does not open the actual search dialog when clicking "browse".14:50
EvilRoeyeXistenZe:  btw where do we know each other from?15:04
EvilRoey#python, #israel, #linguistics, etc.15:04
eXistenZeneither15:07
eXistenZeyou are confusing me with somebody else15:08
eXistenZeI just arrived here a couple weeks ago15:08
eXistenZewouldn't mind knowing some coding although15:09
BluesKajwe avoid coding here, mostly we help with command line, that's about as deep as it can get when supporting Kubuntu15:13
lordievaderCoding is fun though \o/15:15
eXistenZecommand line can be hard enough15:18
lordievadereXistenZe: In the beginning ;)15:18
eXistenZeand linux itself can be a b****15:18
EvilRoeyeXistenZe:  ah.  Maybe your nickname is not unique.15:19
eXistenZesome great apps keep support for linux, but develop mostly win15:19
eXistenZeTried to use desmume (a nds emulator) this morning. Compiled SVN, installed, great. Plays games nicely, but they forgot everything else. Basic UI only, no saving options, not a single frontend option windows version has.15:21
lordievadereXistenZe: SVN from the repo was too old?15:23
eXistenZeEvilRoey: there's a movie named eXistenZ. Perhaps someone uses that15:24
EvilRoeyahhhhh perhaps so, eXistenZe15:25
eXistenZelordievader: no... it's quite recent... and actively developed15:27
lordievader!info svn15:27
ubottuPackage svn does not exist in vivid15:27
lordievader!info subversion15:27
ubottusubversion (source: subversion): Advanced version control system. In component main, is optional. Version 1.8.10-5ubuntu1 (vivid), package size 275 kB, installed size 1288 kB15:27
lordievaderHmm, I see. Then why compile it yourself?15:28
eXistenZeoh... I thought you were talking about the app svn15:28
lordievadereXistenZe: Yes... subversion?15:28
eXistenZethere is no installer for desmume... you have to compile it youself... so might as well use the latest svn...15:31
eXistenZebut either way it's not a version problem. It's simply uninplemented features...15:32
eXistenZewin version is 20 steps ahead15:33
BluesKaj I thought git had mostly replaced svn15:44
tahaanWhere should I report errata for the Kubuntu website?15:52
tahaanOK, there is a link.15:53
tahaanBefore I make a stupid mistake, on this page: http://www.kubuntu.org/getkubuntu ... After selecting 15.04, there is a link to with the following Hyper text: "Upgade Kubuntu 14.10 to 15.04 LTS"16:00
tahaanI believe the LTS is in error16:00
BluesKajtahaan, 14.04 is LTS, not 15.0416:02
tahaanHence I believe it to be an error.16:02
BluesKajthere is no erroe on that site16:02
BluesKajreread it16:03
tahaanI can clearly see "15.04 LTS"16:03
tahaanUnder Upgrade16:03
BluesKajtahaan, i don't see any "upgrade" option on http://www.kubuntu.org/getkubuntu16:05
tahaanDid you select the "Kubuntu 15.04" option, which opens up the download options for that release?16:06
BluesKajtahaan, if you cick on the upgrade it clearly shows that 15,04  is not LTS, I grant you the link has a typo , but the upgrade doesn't16:09
BluesKajgood that you pointed that out16:10
tahaanI doubted myself for half a second when I saw that today16:12
eXistenZewhen we install an app like wine, it brings a couple dozens of packages dependencies. Do these packages have any impact on kubuntu performance/behaviour?16:33
eXistenZecan I use a safe reverse uninstall process? purge?16:34
BluesKajeXistenZe, yes purge should take care of any uneeded packages as well16:37
lordievadereXistenZe: Having packages installed should not degrade performance. Running non-used services does.16:37
eXistenZeI'm guessing installing wine installs some services too16:39
lordievaderNope.16:45
eXistenZeservice != process ?16:48
lordievaderIt is, but not necessarily the other way around.16:52
eXistenZecan apt-get uninstall any package in kubuntu?17:08
eXistenZelike the ones manually installed or installed with muon discover?17:08
lordievaderYes.17:09
eXistenZeand is there any way to find packages not needed any more?17:09
lordievaderMostly experience... though apt-get autoremove removes the obvious ones.17:10
eXistenZeare the sources for apt-get and muon discover the same?17:24
lordievaderYes.17:25
eXistenZeso I can use apt-get for everything, right?17:25
lordievaderMuon pretty much calls apt-get for anything it does.17:25
eXistenZeincluding the updates...17:25
lordievaderOf course.17:25
lordievaderI rarely use Muon under Kubuntu.17:25
eXistenZewhat's the proper procedure to uninstall these two apps? muon discover and update?17:26
eXistenZehow do I find their names? do I use purge for both?17:27
lordievaderDo you want to remove their configs?17:27
lordievaderAlso: dpkg -l|grep muon17:27
eXistenZeif it does not mess with apt-get17:27
lordievaderMuon can be removed with its config, no problem.17:28
eXistenZe-l lists. what does "grep" do?  there's no info on it17:30
lordievadereXistenZe: Sure there is: man grep17:31
eXistenZetheres a manual for command lines? nice17:34
eXistenZedo dpgk is a package manager, -l list packages, grep tells it to search in files name?17:35
eXistenZeso*17:36
lordievaderGrep looks for whatever you give it to look for in whatever you give it to look in. In this case the output of dpkg -l, for 'muon'.17:37
eXistenZeso I can purge the 4 results?17:38
lordievaderWhat are the 4 results?17:38
