[13:21] <cking> ogra_, vivid works hard to make sure you CPU does not cook, so I think the scaling was trying to do this and not working well because the thermal gradients were not as it expected

[13:22] <cking> the passive cooling expects some kind of heating/cooling characteristic, but if the CPU is on fire it will just ramp down fast then give you all sorts of odd up/down speed changes

[13:23] <cking> i'm glad it resolved it.  i7's are probably the worst headache as they dump a lot of heat very quickly into the thermal zone
[13:25] <ogra_> yeah, and the old XPS13 having a teeny weeny fan and heatpipies going everywhere through the case doesnt really help the case :)
[13:27] <cking> ogra_, i guess manufacturers need to run stress-ng to see if their laptop thermal designs are OK ;-)
[13:27] <ogra_> well, i'm sure it is ok if it comes out of the factory ... they should be obligated to do tests after 1-2 years of usage ;)
