BluesKajhi hyper_ch14:12
hyper_chBluesKaj: so, been busy today with nixos :)14:13
BluesKajno, i've been fixing my debian install, mostly small annoying stuff that I let slide for a while14:14
BluesKajdunno if I have to learn a new package management system for starters14:15
hyper_chno, I have been :) just doing virtualbox install now14:15
BluesKajhave time14:15
BluesKajand so far so good ?14:16
hyper_cham building now... seems good.... will update my configuration nix when I'm done14:17
hyper_chbuilding done, rebooting now just to make sure and then test it :)14:17
BluesKajis there a NixOS chat on irc?14:19
hyper_chyes14:19
BluesKajfreenode/14:20
BluesKaj?14:20
hyper_ch#nixos14:20
BluesKajok thanks14:20
hyper_chnow it seems something went wrong :)14:21
hyper_chkdm didn't start14:21
BluesKajI might give it a try, but need to do some partitioning first , i don't care for vm installs, there's always something unfixable14:21
hyper_chBluesKaj: found the error... I installed vbox as guest and not as host :)14:31
BluesKajoops14:32
BluesKajhyper_ch, have you tried qemu-kvm, it's very quick compared to virtual box14:37
hyper_chBluesKaj: haven't tried yet14:37
hyper_chbut I know it's very fast14:37
BluesKajok14:37
hyper_chsome people say with according video cards you get almost same performance as under native windows14:37
hyper_chBluesKaj: my current configuration.nix   https://github.com/sjau/nixos/blob/master/configuration.nix14:38
hyper_chalso interesting is the package list for kde:  https://nixos.org/wiki/KDE#How_to_install_KDE_414:38
hyper_chwill still have to go through there :)14:38
hyper_chalso important: https://nixos.org/wiki/Howto_find_a_package_in_NixOS14:39
hyper_chnext thing I'll have to figure out how to set my kde default settings :)14:40
lordievaderPeople game on kvm ;)14:44
hyper_chhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=37D2bRsthfI14:46
hyper_chmaybe one day, when I'm old, I'll have a look at kvm14:46
BluesKajwell, I'm old and i tried it on kubuntu 14.10 with windows as the guest OS. Windows 7 was very fast etc , but it couldn't see other windows machines on my LAN14:50
hyper_chno brigded networking?14:51
hyper_chs/gd/dg/14:51
lordievaderThere is.14:51
lordievaderNetworking is simple linux networking. Whatever you want.14:51
hyper_chthen you should be able to see other machines14:52
hyper_chworks fine with vbox :)14:52
lordievaderBluesKaj probably used NAT  (default) rather than a bridge connection.14:52
BluesKajanyway I dual boot W7 and kubuntu 15.104 on the laptop and that's fine for my needs14:53
hyper_chwith kvm, can you have the vm in a window or something?14:53
BluesKajlordievader, no, I did try a bridged setup, still no luck14:54
lordievaderhyper_ch: You connect through vnc or spice.15:12
hyper_chthe spice must flow15:13
penguin42some of the qemu builds also support qtk or SDL2 windows - not sure if the ubuntu builds are configuredlike that16:21
hyper_chwhat's sdl2?16:22
hyper_chthe nice things about vbox is bi-directional clipboard16:23
lordievaderSpice supports clipboard stuff, I thought.16:23
penguin42yeh I think spice can do the clipboard stuff16:26
penguin42hyper_ch: it's just a graphics library16:26
penguin42yeh the ubuntu qemu can just run a local window without either spice or vnc16:27
hyper_chI juse use vbox :)16:33
drhalanhey i want to use overlayfs in wily. is there anything special i need to enable. mount always tells me "unknown filesystem type overlayfs "19:13
drhalanoverlay or overlayfs also doesn't show up in /proc/filesystems19:13
penguin42drhalan: try a modprobe overlayfs19:17
penguin42drhalan: actually, no, modprobe overlay19:17
drhalanthat works thanks?19:18
drhalani installed overlayroot. is that package needed?19:18
* penguin42 doesn't know - never used it19:19
drhalanoh okay19:21
drhalando you know what the difference between 'overlay" and “overlayfs" is? both shows up in my /proc/filesystems now19:21
penguin42no, don't know - I noticed that the kernel module is called overlay.ko although in the overlayfs directory19:23
