[11:35] yes coco1 [11:36] didnt i state in the emialthat you can add items of interest? [11:36] i forget things [11:39] I'll verify later, thanks Kilos: [11:39] yw [13:59] hi abakamousa [14:00] :) === qwebirc19946 is now known as klem [16:54] * QA going down for a kernel update.. wbb in a jiffy [16:55] ok [16:58] QA wb [16:58] Thank you so much Kilos my good friend [17:46] ongolaBoy ping [17:46] ohi magespawn welcome to ubuntu-africa [17:47] you can join here https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-africa === Cryterion_ is now known as Cryterion [18:28] hi philipballew [18:28] do you want to receive our list mail? [18:37] Kilos, yeah. that seems nice. [18:38] join the group on https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-africa and you should see the mailing list there as well [18:53] Kilos, I joined. Do you have any social media profiles yet? [18:53] whats that? [18:53] Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Pintrest [18:54] you mean me persdonally? [18:56] Kilos: I guess he means for ubuntu-africa [18:56] the answer to that would be no [18:56] i dunno bout them things [18:56] ah, Kilos I see [18:56] I can help you start a "campaign" to build a following. [18:56] if you need. [18:57] I think what you need is advertising, marketing, and evangelicalism. [18:57] most of the peeps here have personal fb and twitter things [18:57] Kilos, Perfect. [18:58] if you can market in africa then go for it [18:58] that way they can follo the accounts about ubuntu africa and always be in the know as well as able to share ubuntu africa to their friends. [18:58] the idea is to encourage all of the users in africa to be more active in ubuntu [18:59] so if you can build ideas and ways to get people active in Ubuntu, I can easily tweet about it. [18:59] another option is a weekly hangout, like the official Ubuntu people do. [18:59] Kilos: pong [18:59] i cant do hangsouts it eats data [18:59] ohi ongolaBoy [18:59] you could do something like this where you get on the camera for a short time period [19:00] Kilos, I see. [19:00] i wanted to ask you something [19:00] Well there needs to be some way for people to feel like they belong [19:00] ask away [19:00] oh ongolaBoy have you joined the mailing list? [19:01] philipballew we are going to have our official launch first meeting here on the 29th [19:01] at our 8.30pm which is 30 mins ago [19:02] Kilos: yes [19:02] great ty ongolaBoy then you will be updated for the meeting [19:02] have you any ideas or matters of interest to add to the agenda [19:02] QA agenda [19:02] https://wiki.ubuntu.com/AfricanTeams/Meetings/20150729 [19:03] Kilos: maybe a topic about social media? [19:03] Kilos: will do tomorrow . right now I'll be offline in less than 10 min ;) [19:04] cool ongolaBoy ty [19:04] okay, i like that. [19:05] Kilos, if you want any ideas feel free to hit me up. I have been a loco leader before [19:07] cool philipballew look at the agenda and add what you think can help [19:08] will do Kilos [19:11] philipballew: big question is how do we manage social media in the newly established community and stay on track here [19:11] ? [19:13] inetpro, Good question. I think first it is important to get the information to people through tweeting about links of the information. Next it is important to attract people to join the group as well. then you want to advocate and promote the brand the group is about. [19:13] In order to manage it, do you mean logistically? or what would you say? [19:14] so far Kilos has really been the big driver behind this project [19:15] inetpro, yes. and he seems to be doing a good job [19:15] In all forms of communication, it is important to know that communication is receiver based. [19:15] you have to know your audience to know the best way to reach them. [19:16] maybe I should not be too concerned about it just yet, but I can just imagine it growing too big too quickly [19:17] too big too quickly is only a problem if you do not have enough people to manage the team [19:19] I think we need a few key players to be confirmed as leaders in the first meeting in order to manage the project together as a team [19:20] whew already [19:21] * inetpro is not in a hurry [19:22] basically one needs a leader in each country [19:23] then the leaders come here [19:23] then we can all decide [19:23] maybe later form a cc [19:23] or whatever [19:26] Kilos: so you want to start with a social media campaign already or only after the meeting [19:26] ? [19:27] after the meeting i think, how do you feel [19:28] lets talk about it at the meeting hey? [19:28] i think the best with control is to lkead by example [19:28] lead [19:28] because there could be a few languages used here [19:29] so if we set a good example others will follow [19:30] but the social media thing is a good idea because thats where everything is going nowadays [19:37] philipballew dont forget this will be 18 locos in one place [19:37] same as USATeams [19:40] Kilos, exactly. This is a good thing [19:40] the social media would need a moderator [19:40] probably several people [19:40] someone who knows english and someone who speaks french [19:40] yeah i dont like doing facebook and twitter [19:41] Kilos, that is the platforms people use, and that is the way to reach people. [19:41] I am not saying those are the platforms your group will be based on, those are ways to advertise your group [19:41] yeah i know but someone else will have to handle that end of it [19:42] i think we have ubuntu-za on facebook for the south african guys [19:43] the thing is with facebook and twitter, can you transfer admin? [19:43] or have a few mods [19:43] Kilos, just have a few mods who know the password for the accounts [19:45] i think it can work [19:46] add the social media topic in the agenda [19:46] then we can discuss it at the meeting and choose peeps hey? [19:51] Kilos, yeah. That seems god [20:05] Kilo's, you can add and remove admins of groups on fb [20:05] oh [20:05] can set open or closed group [20:05] i dont know fb very well. very seldom use it [20:06] I know fb well, don't know all the options though, but am I'm a few groups [20:07] when you have to watch data use fb kills you [20:07] and twitter with all the peps and their pics [20:07] s/peps/peeps [20:08] true, but my phone auto connects to wifi networks setup for it, just when out have to be carefull [20:08] ai! [20:08] i would go mad [20:08] Not sure in twitter as I don't use it [20:09] in twitter/on twitter [20:09] twitter is fine if peeps just text but they all throw pics in nowadays [20:10] personally im happy just with irc and pidgin [21:05] Kilos: eish! [21:06] @ubuntuafrica is already taken and we can use @ubuntu-africa either [21:06] can not* [21:06] eish [21:07] philipballew: suggestions for a twitter username please [21:07] inetpro, ubuntuafrice [21:07] ubuntuafrica [21:07] is that taken? [21:07] yep [21:08] and ubuntuafr ? [21:09] ubuntuinafrica [21:09] that is avaible [21:09] available [21:09] Kilos: ^ ? [21:11] im easy [21:15] ok, it's booked [21:15] yo ubuntiste-msakni [21:15] https://twitter.com/ubuntuinafrica [21:15] well done [21:15] we can always change later [21:15] now we need a cool logo [21:17] cooler than a penguin? [21:19] I like the penguin [21:19] there's some variations of it out btw [21:20] yeah ive seen quite a few [21:20] also there is a link with lots of stuff on [21:20] remember the stuff maia did inetpro [21:21] Kilos: give the guys some work man :-) [21:22] im looking for the link [21:22] http://spreadubuntu.org/en/get-materials/poster?page=3&__utmt_~1=1 [21:23] i dont know what all is in there [21:40] tomorrow is another day [21:40] good night [21:41] night sir and ty
