HELP [03:35] you can't [03:36] if you *really* want to do that, consult your webserver software [03:36] or use haproxy instead [03:44] patdk-lap: what should I do with my webserver software, just an idea? [03:44] reverse proxy? [04:45] I want to be able to stream audio from my windows 7 pc to my Ubuntu server over wifi, Is this possible? [04:46] there's probably something like icecast for windows [04:47] I was thinking pulseaudio because Icecast seamed to just stream certain files [04:48] The problem is I'm having trouble figuring out how to use pulseaudio [04:49] I know pulseaudio's original purpose in life was network audio, I don't know if it is actually any good at that task now.. [04:49] could Icecast stream all of the audio from my pc you think? [04:50] I was hoping you'd find a "driver" for windows that would let you select it as a soundcard and have it send audio into icecast instead, but that's me being hopeful rather than helpful.. [04:52] this looks promising https://github.com/DustyDrifter/AltaCast [04:53] Is it any different from edcast? [04:55] a link I found for edcast lead here, https://code.google.com/p/edcast-reborn/ [04:55] they look like they recommend using altacast instead [04:55] I'm going to give that a shot. Thanks! [05:25] sarnold? [05:26] hey Polluticon, any success? [05:26] I got it all working kind of. The server works and I can stream over it but the sound is not playing from my ubuntu machine. Do i need a seperate client on there too? [05:28] Polluticon: I think amarok, rythmbox, mplayer, can all do icecast [05:29] can any of those be used from just the command line? [05:29] mplayer [05:31] perfect! [05:31] Thanks for all the help [05:31] woo :) [05:31] Unfortunately the stream is about 10 seconds behind. Is there anything I can do about that? [05:32] I suspect there's both server-side and client-side caching.. you may be able to turn both of those down [05:33] s/caching/buffering/ [05:34] hmm, I odn't see anything promising in the mplayer manpage :/ [05:34] Yeah I think I'll just live with it. It's pretty much just for music anyway so it doesn;t matter too much [05:35] just so long as the easy volume and mute are on the linux system.. heh [05:36] if it is really music... you could export a share from your windows sytem, mount it on linux with smb or cifs, and use something like mpd. mplayer, etc., to play them directl on the linux system [05:38] The server has a pre/power amp with volume controls connected to it. And I would do that but I use Spotify for music so I needed this to pick up it's sound without the physical files [05:39] there is (or was?) a native spotify client that I used a few years ago.. it was a gui application, though [05:40] Yeah I actually set up a mopidy server on it as well as a client called ncmpcpp to control it through the command line [05:41] mopidy looks neat [05:41] is it? :) [05:41] But the client was really limiting and I couldn't find a better one. I also wanted to be able to stream youtube or something else too [05:41] mopidy is pretty cool. Really easy to setup [05:44] ice cast is cool though because I can listen through in web browser on any device === _darxun is now known as darxun [05:48] anyway thanks for all the help === athairus is now known as athairuzzz [07:13] Q: I'm trying to configure wordpress on my Ubuntu LAMP. My ISP blocks port 80 so I have been messing around with work-arounds and I believe the apache server is setup correctly and serves through port 8080 instead of 80. When I connect to the server from outside the local network(m.y.i.p:8080), it will show the default apache page as it should. However, when I proceed to view the wordpress installation (m.y.i.p:8080/blog), [07:14] This, of course, causes wordpress to not show up since ISP is blocking port 80. QUESTION: How do I make wordpress stay on port 8080 and not automatically redirect the browser to the default port? === Lcawte|Away is now known as Lcawte [08:02] sparchitect_: configure your router to forward incoming requests on 8080 to port 80 on your server. then just browse your external ip like normal [08:02] histo: hmmm, interesting, I thought I had already correctly forwarded the port. Let me check again [08:05] histo: This is what my forwarding looks like right now. Does this look right to you? I'm such a novice with all this networking stuff =P http://imgur.com/8KhAAfS [08:07] sparchitect_: what dns are you using? [08:08] sparchitect_: you need to configure a redirect so that whatever.com points to yourip:8080 now and you should be good [08:09] sparchitect_: also no point in forwarding port 80 > yourbox in your router config if you isp is blocking it the 8080 to yourbox:80 is sufficient [08:10] histo: well I've got a redirect setup through NameCheap, and I believe I'm on their dynamic dns. and navigating to mydomain.com is correctly redirecting me to mylocalip:8080 [08:11] sparchitect_: then you should be good to go so wordpress should be at mydomain.com/blog [08:11] I feel like it has to do with wordpress configurations maybe, and thanks for pointing out the useless port forwards [08:12] hmm then maybe i need to mess around with my redirecting at namecheap then [08:12] sparchitect_: yeah make sure it's resolving properly, didn't know they provided that. [08:13] sparchitect_: https://community.namecheap.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=3622 [08:13] histo: Also, the only way I can test it (outside of local network) is on my LG smartphone with 3G data service. perhaps this isn't the best way to test this sort of thing [08:14] sparchitect_: you should be able to test inside the network by going to mydomain.com [08:14] histo: Oh, awesome, thank you so much for your help histo. You've definitely pointed me in the right direction! [08:15] histo: oh, intersting, then I suppose its working fine then and it is just a problem with my crappy cellular data network === EraseR is now known as Eraser-Team [08:57] Good morning. === zz_DenBeiren is now known as DenBeiren [13:50] Hi, I set my apache to event mpm but with every apache update in my ubuntu server, it reverts back to prefork how can I fix this? === lordievader is now known as Guest38872 === synthmeat is now known as cultit === cultit is now known as synthmeat === lordieva1er is now known as lordievader === Lcawte is now known as Lcawte|Away === Lcawte|Away is now known as Lcawte === athairuzzz is now known as athairus === Lcawte is now known as Lcawte|Away
