Finetundrahi folks, why would my logout button not be working?02:04
Unit193Try checking .cache/lxsession/Lubuntu/run.log?02:06
Unit193What happens if you invoke lxsession-logout manually?02:06
fishcookerim on lubuntu 14.04 everytime i press ctrl+al+del .. the system will logout my session forcefully.. how to override this02:07
FinetundraUnit193: here's the log you wanted: http://pastebin.com/rUKB3S1Y02:09
FinetundraUnit193: it says that lxsession-login is not installed02:09
Unit193Not login, logout.02:10
Finetundraright, that02:10
FinetundraI installed after installing kubuntu02:12
Finetundragah, wrong channel02:13

Finetundraso right, how do I fix the logout issue?02:31
ianorlinfishcooker: maybe edit ~/.config/openbox/lubuntu-rc.xml so that it launches lxtask instead of lxsession-defualt task-manager03:28
ianorlinand then run openbox --rconfigure03:28
fishcookeri've edited btw .. will i be logged out after i've ran "openbox --rconfigure" .. btw what is lxtask actually, ianorlin?03:31
Unit193Unless you aren't using the Lubuntu session.03:33
ianorlinlxtask is the lxde task manager03:34

* lopta waits patiently for lubuntu 15.04 to download.16:35

loptaToday I tried lubuntu for the first time (on an older Dell laptop). The install seemed to go smoothly but when I try to boot into the OS I get dumped to a grub "rescue mode" prompt.19:58
loptaI'll have another go.19:58
loptaIs @LubuntuOfficial the official Lubuntu presence on twitter?20:12
lopta(as the name suggests)?20:12
ianorlinlopta: which drive did you install grub to on the laptop or did you use autoresize or entire disk?20:17
pleia2lopta: @lubuntudesktop is what lubuntu.net links, and it's more active, I don't really know the history/officialness of all the accounts though20:17
ianorlinthat is the twitter account for the comms team20:17
pleia2ianorlin: which one?20:18
ianorlin@lubuntuoffical20:19
ianorlinI don't use twitter though20:19
pleia2https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Lubuntu/ContactUs#Find_Lubuntu seems to favor @lubuntuofficial, so it seems either way, both accounts are controlled by folks who are associated with lubuntu in some way :)20:19
loptaianorlin: I used "entire disk"20:20
loptaThanks pleia220:20
ianorlinlopta: since you don't have any data I might just reinstall with manual partitioning and crate an ext4 and make sure that your hard drive is chosen for bootloader installation20:20
teward(unrelated) I think I'm following you on twitter, pleia2 xD20:21
loptaianorlin: Thanks. I'm having another go at the installation now. If that doesn't work I'll try manually partitioning.20:21
loptaI need to divide up my twitter account again. They only let me follow 2,000 people.20:22
loptaSame thing: I get "error: attempt to read or write outside of disk 'hd0'.20:24
pleia2teward: I recognize your nick from when I was in PA (I think you might have participated on the mailing list?)20:24
ianorlinlopta how is the disk you installed attached?20:25
tewardpleia2: yep, still me.  https://launchpad.net/~teward  mostly dabble in server packages now, with my fingerprints over nginx in Ubuntu almost permanently xD20:25
ianorlinI have gotten that when I install to an external hard drive20:25
loptaianorlin: PATA, internal to the laptop.20:25
ianorlinlopta: does pressing any key allow you to continue?20:26
loptaianorlin: No, I get dumped at a grub prompt.20:26
loptaExperimentally I tried a Xubuntu 14.10 disc that I had sitting around. That one worked but I don't know whether that's because it's Xubuntu or because it's 14.1021:21
loptaPerhaps I should try lubuntu 14.10.21:21
ianorlinlopta: although 14.10 ends support near the end of this month and then upgrades become harder21:22
loptaRight but if I can get it installed and booting, perhaps I can upgrade it in-situ.21:25
loptaUgh. Can't find .torrent files for 14.10.21:30
ianorlinah yeah that will work21:35
lopta(only if I can find it ;-)21:41
Unit193lopta: http://torrent.ubuntu.com/lubuntu/releases/utopic/release/desktop/21:42
Unit193Though again, I wouldn't since 14.10 is nearing EOL.21:42
loptaThanks Unit19321:43

encboothello. i have now the 3th time at a friends home following error: lubuntu fills up the boot partition after some time and after that it does not install any updates any more because of space problems22:38
encbootusing 15.04. problem was also there with 14.1022:38
ianorlinencboot: why are they using a seperate /boot partition?22:38
ianorlinis this a uefi system ?22:39
encbootianorlin: i installed the system. i help them to get away from windows. thats terrible. i am so proud of using linux and the system crashes there every few months!22:39
ianorlinyeah how much space on the boot partition22:40
encbootianorlin: no, its a bios system22:40
ianorlinIT might be new kernels22:40
encbooti got called this night. i told them to enter 'df' and tell me how much is been used at the line with 'boot' inside. its 99% used22:40
Unit193I support ianorlin evaluation.22:41
Unit193's22:41
encboot~230mb is the default /boot size22:42
encboot2mb free now22:42
ianorlinyeah that is too small how big is the disk?22:42
encbootianorlin: 30gb22:42
ianorlinwhy would you use a seperate /boot on that small a disk22:43
encbootianorlin: i dont setup ANYTHING at install. just follow the installation gui. i say "use whole disk" and then it wipes everything and creates the partitions. i dont setup anything22:44
ianorlinI don't think entire disk is supposed to setup a seperate /boot22:44
encbootthe hdd is encrypted (installer asks me if it should encrypt). i think it needs then a separate unencrypted /boot with grub inside22:45
Unit193Yes.22:46
encbootwhy the hell does it automaticly create a /boot in a size that is ben KNOWN that its too small?!22:46
ianorlinI don't have a production system with a 30 GB disk that I use with disk encryption22:47
encbootthe people now are telling me that their windows xp with truecrypt never had any problems at updating.22:47
encbootianorlin: its only for writing text and surfing the web. 20gb are still free.22:48
ianorlinencboot: I think it makes the size based off the size of the disk22:49
encbootianorlin: then there should be a min size22:49
encbootsomething like if hdd smaller then x, then always use size y of boot22:49
Unit193Mine takes ~60MB.22:49
ianorlinalso I currenlty use less than that for my boot it is probably with that big a disk and kernel updates you need to run sudo apt-get autoremove22:49
encbootianorlin: the people dont use command line. they also never used command line on windows. the just want to use their webbrowser and libreoffice22:50
ianorlinor maybe put in the autoremove as a root cronjob weekly or something22:51
ianorlinI think it will need the -y option though22:51
encbootgreat solution :( . is there any other small distro that dont kills himself by creating a too tiny /boot and filling it up after a month and then break the whole updater?22:52
ianorlinas if you set up that cron job it will run in the backgournd22:53
encbootcant you implement that inside the next lubuntu nightly so that there is finally a normal working installation iso?22:54
encbootand then this bug is finally fixed with lubuntu 15.1022:55
encbootits really critical. normal users install the system and then suddenly dont get critical security updates because of such thing22:56
ianorlinencboot: I don't think many normal users use full disk encryption22:57
encbootits beening asked for at installation. windows also dont die after a month because and fail then every update when you use truecrypt22:58
encbootits no modification i did to the installation media or something like that. just the functionality of the installer is been used22:59

ubottuLaunchpad bug 1357093 in ubiquity (Ubuntu) "LVM or Encrypted install creates too small /boot partition" [Undecided,Confirmed]23:06
encbootits exactly what i am telling: Same problem as indicated above on 14.04 LTS. Why are "old" kernels left on a drive that is too small to begin with? Thank you in advance for fixing it. If fix would allow to expand partition (at least double it) and remove "old" kernels, this would be great!23:06
=== LarrySteeze is now known as LarrySteeze|Away
encbootUnit193: it would be great if you could help fixing this bug23:10
encbootwhy is such a critical thing not fixed since 1 year? it seems to affect every ubuntu based system23:12
