Kali_Yug1This plugin has security vulnerabilities. Activate Adobe Flash02:02
beepieI smash adobe flash02:02
Kali_Yug1so just half works on what I do on the Internet somebody said html502:03
* beepie pancakes adobe technology and throws it in the recycling bin02:03
Kali_Yug1what should I do?02:04
ahoneybunKali_Yug1: you need Flash for something?02:07
Kali_Yug1Idk many things I cannot see anymore what are u guys doing about it?02:17
Kali_Yug1Firefox kicked flash out. but alot of websites require it02:18
Kali_Yug1http://www.ghacks.net/2015/07/14/mozilla-blocks-all-versions-of-adobe-flash-in-firefox/02:21
ahoneybunKali_Yug1: that would be Firefox doing it, you should be able to turn it back on02:26
Kali_Yug1I still always have to click activate02:30
Kali_Yug1No alternative. does html5 the same thing ? but whats with the websites that require flash02:31
Kali_Yug1Others are suggesting removing Adobe Flash completely.02:33
Kali_Yug1Be aware, though, that removing or disabling Flash will have a knock-on effect on websites and users may find they can't use certain features on such sites without it.02:33

hangman13usNo I haven't :( it says it is updated, but when I try to use my browser to play a game in FB it says I need to update.06:43
hangman13usWhen I try to update - it says it is broken...06:44

hangman13usYes06:45
ovidiu-florinare you sure you have all your updates installed? when have you last checked?06:45
ovidiu-florinif yes, have you restarted your browser since?06:47
hangman13usYes, first thing I did.06:48
hangman13usIt used to give me an error that adobe-flashplugin failed to install due to missing packages and asked me to fix my connection.06:48
hangman13usI removed and re-installed... and afterwards did the same in konsole, but same result.06:49

N3X15tl;dr Firefox is purposefully blocking flash because it has security problems07:00
ovidiu-florinN3X15: what the article I've sent sais07:01
N3X15You can And not mild security problems, adobe themselves listed them as critical, and these problems are being actively exploited by hackers.07:01
Unit193https://wiki.ubuntu.com/SecurityTeam/KnowledgeBase/FirefoxAndAdobeFlashNPAPI07:01
N3X15hangman13us, the point is that Adobe Flash may be up to date, but firefox is blocking it because it has issues still.07:02
hangman13usSurprisingly enough every other browser on my PC does the same.07:02
ovidiu-florinit's a death wish for flash07:03
N3X15For the same reason.  Last I checked, there were two unfixed critical vulnerabilities in Flash.07:03
ovidiu-florindevelopers and users are sick of it07:03
hangman13usHm... maybe I just need to wait the next update, my problem is the Linux version cannot be used so if I'm dependant on Adobe Flash I need to have second Win PC.07:03
hangman13usOr other OS07:04
N3X15You can force firefox to run flash, but it's risky.07:04
ovidiu-florinhangman13us: if you're dependent on Flash, I'd recommend eliminating that dependency07:04
hangman13usN3X15 - I did this, however the game (it is Stromfall age of war) still fail to load and says I need to update. I was testing this the first time I made the upgrate07:05
N3X15Does the game itself say flash is out of date?07:05
N3X15Bear in mind that Linux is using a much older version of Flash since Adobe stopped supporting Linux07:05
hangman13usNah... not a real dependancy just annoyed there is update I cannot install and game I cannot play. However sometimes the plugin is used in other platforms as well - some of them even home-banking and etc.07:06
N3X15Yeah, it's a pain in the butt, but these things happen.07:06
hangman13usI won't use something vulnerable to do my transactions, but it is just annoying :)07:06
N3X15Just need to wait for the vendor to sort things out.07:06
hangman13usN3X15 - Yes game says I need to switch to the right version in order to play.07:07
N3X15I suspect it'll be like this for months since the vulnerability was part of a 400GB archive of emails, source code, and malware released from a spyware company, people are still finding new things.07:07
N3X15You may need to spin up a VM with Windows, then.07:08
hangman13ushttp://imgur.com/IPnEtJh - what game says07:09
hangman13usHowever when I do update it routes to Adobe website and I select APT to update the pack manually and it fails.07:10
N3X15Yeah, you're probably going to have to run Flash in Windows to get that to work.07:10
N3X15Most game developers only plan for Windows users.07:10
hangman13usThat's the annoying part. I allowed it to run as it is a game and I don't use my linux machine to store personal and confidential data. And it fails again.07:10
hangman13usI know (other annoying part mainly due to the vendors and developpers of software). But I'm sure Linux will become more and more popular.07:11
hangman13usIt used to run okay 2-3 weeks ago and them all of a sudden it stopped.07:12
N3X15Yeah, it's gathering steam, but right now, you just have to roll with the punches.07:12
hangman13us(y)07:12
N3X15Sorry, man.07:13
hangman13usThe reason I asked here was mainly to see if there is something I haven't done properly - I tried on my on my own in the start, but then got annoyed :)07:13
hangman13usAnd it seems in Adobe's (God bless them) hands :D07:14
N3X15No, you probably updated it correctly, the problem is that Adobe's still working on it.07:14
hangman13usthank you guys ;)07:14
N3X15And it might not work anyway on Linux just because 18.x doesn't work on Linux.07:14
hangman13usyeah07:14

lordievaderHey hangman13us07:16
kriseHi i installed Kubundt vivid to my 10 years old desktop computer.Installation went well but when i start it up i get plasma crash error and nothing happends07:56
lordievaderWhat kind of error?07:59
kriseExecutable :plasmashell PID: 1159 signal:Aborted (6)08:08
kantohi. is there any orientation when the plasma 5.3.2 packages will be released?08:10
lordievaderHmm, that ain't nice. What kind of graphics card and driver do you use, krise?08:11
lordievaderkanto: Depends on how much time the packagers have. 5.3.2 is in Wily, but still needs to be backported.08:11
krisei dont really remember, i havent used this computer for years . Sony vaio08:12
lordievaderkrise: Could you pastebin the output of 'lspci -k|grep -A2 VGA'?08:13
kantolordievader; normally they are very quick, was just wondering whether I had been overlooking something...thx08:13
mryoungHi, which is a good Usenet client for KDE ?08:23
ejayHi all. Plasma is crashing constantly. How can I diagnose why it is happening?08:28
kriselordievader only thing i can paste is this https://paste.kde.org/pw83jsfnw08:32
lordievaderkrise: Go to a tty (ctrl + alt + f1) and run: sudo apt-get install pastebinit && lspci -k|grep -A2 VGA| pastebinit08:34
Haudegenejay: Plasma 5 simply isn't ready for production use right now.  Plasma 5.3.1 crashes all the time.08:35
murthyejay: It may be mostly due to driver issues or corrupted config files. You could open plasmashell in terminal and check for any error message. before that you have to enable plasma-desktop in kdebugdialog08:35
Haudegenejay: Which version do you use?08:35
ejayHaudegen: latest from backports08:36
ejaymurthy: i need to purge config files every time plasma crashes08:37
ejaymurthy: also it is not drivers issues 'cuz plasma did work month ago and now it just went apeshit08:38
murthyejay: check if you are running out of space in drive containing the home directory08:38
ejaymurthy: I'm not running out of space in my home dir08:38
murthyejay: In that case you try to see if there is any error messages in the terminal like I said before08:39
ejayis there plasmashell log file or smth?08:39
kriseshit i forgot log in name08:39
murthyI guess .xsession-errors08:40
zxsinclair_just jumping in here but also check you got space in /tmp08:40
zxsinclair_that killed me once08:40
ejaymurthy: when plasma dies and I try to start it from konsole it says that ksycoca is broken or whatever, so I'm removing this file from .cache and after that I can run plasmashell.08:40
murthyejay: right your config files might be broken08:41
zxsinclair_xsession-errors is outdated08:41
zxsinclair_in kubuntu08:41
zxsinclair_check here instead: ~/.cache/upstart/startkde.log*08:41
murthyejay: I will give you a command try it08:41
zxsinclair_that might in itself be outdated in 15.04 though (systemd)08:42
lordievaderkrise: You could boot into the rescue mode.08:42
murthyejay: kbuildsycoca5 --noincremental08:43
ejaymurthy: k, thanks. Will see if that is a solution.08:45
murthyejay: restart the system after running the command. also you need to delete some files before that08:46
ejayzxsinclair_: that log is such a mess o_008:46
murthyejay: I will tell in a min08:46
zxsinclair_ejay: ya but that is, at least in 14.10, where you find stuff. xsession-errors is just blank08:47
murthyejay: delete all files with name starting with kwinrulesrc in .config dir08:50
ejaymurthy: k, done. Will restart now. brb08:52
ejaymurthy: well, everything is fine so far08:59
murthyejay: there is a bug in kconfig and qt that is the reason for these issue. It is fixed, the fix will be available in kubuntu soon09:01

seyinoi am using Kubuntu 14.04.2 with up to date updates09:02
murthyejay: If it crashes with a new user then swithch graphics driver between binary and opensource09:03
murthyejay: Did you run the command I gave you?09:03
ejaymurthy: yes. it does not matter. this command or just killing every kde related file from .cache and .config - plasma is crashing all the time.09:05
ejaymurthy: k, thanks. I guess I will just change env for somthing more stable.09:06

seyinoi don't understand what is happening, shouldn't the output be button +309:48
seyinoif it is 1 then that means it is mapped to left-click,and it always appears as button +1,when i try to map to mouse, regardless if it is right, left, middle click09:49

seyinoi tried sudo xsetwacom set "Wacom Intuos PT S Pen stylus" Button 2 3 ->same result09:50

s_20regedit: here's a workaround use alsamixer to manipulate the volume manually14:34
regedits_20: i tried that one, it's not a volume issue it seems14:35
regeditall volumes can be turned all the way up, still wont work until i plug in a 3.5mm14:35
regeditit seems to be some sort of "initial initialization" issue, which the 3.5mm seems to successfully trigger14:35

regediti can only tell if this helps next time i reboot...14:48
s_20regedit: oh14:49
regeditBluesKaj: so if someone wants this option enabled the only way to "get out of" that state is indeed by plugging earphones in?14:49
s_20i just realised, when you tried alsamixer, did you disable the mute option?14:49
s_20that could be a way to test it right now14:49
s_20just cranking up the volume doesn't do much if it's muted anyway14:49
regeditwell no it wasnt muted14:50
s_20did you try to toggle it and nothing happened?14:50
regeditauto-mute mode does not mean muting/unmuting, i think14:50

s_20s/see//14:56
regeditBluesKaj: yep its currently wirking, after i plugged/unplugged the 3.5mm14:57
regeditah yes i see the settings changing when i do that14:57
BluesKajrebooting is not necessary14:57
regediti know it isnt14:57
regeditits just that - the issue i've been experiencing occurs upon startup, and doesnt happen anymore after i 3.5mm it14:58
regeditso i hope to prove alsamixer is indeed in full control of this after next bootup14:58
regeditwhen i can mess with the sounds even without the 3.5mm14:58
BluesKajonly if you have the modprobe sound failure to load the intel driver , which does happen occasionly after upgrades14:58

kingjereafter install of kubuntu 15.04 baloo-file is using 95% +/- of my dual core. Any tips?20:58
DoyleIs this really a support channel?21:06
Doyle15.04 - Display Configuration - 2x 24" monitors. Left one Vertical, Right one Horiz. When positioning the right one against the left one, its position snaps to  1200x360, which appears to be the center. I want it at about 1200x340, which isn't accessible bc of the snap.21:08
DoyleHow can I disable the snap? There should be a checkbox. Or the monitors should be positionable by px using the arrow keys.21:08
DoyleIt snaps all the way from 280 to 360...21:09
alexis_Hello, my kubuntu 14.04.2 does not boot anymore. Is there something in the recent updates that can cause this ?21:29
alexis_Hello, my kubuntu 14.04.2 does not boot anymore. Is there something in the recent updates that can cause this ?21:39
keithzgalexis_: What are the exact symptoms?21:43
alexis_The kubuntu logo appears shines for a second then is frozen. I don't have access to a terminal.21:44
alexis_And it stays like this when it usually boots in seconds.21:44
alexis_keithzg: I just got access to a shell using recovery mode. I am going to check for various anomalies.21:51
alexis_keithzg: dkms was just upgraded, I am trying to reinstall graphics drivers, maybe it failed during an upgrade recently. I may not have noticed.21:55
keithzgkeithzg: That could definitely explain the symptoms, yeah21:56
alexis_keithzg: in the logs, there are messages about graphic drivers being interrupted and started again several times today22:00
keithzgalexis_: What graphics card are you using? I'm assuming for drivers since DKMS is involved you're using the binary blobs either from NVIDIA or AMD.22:01
alexis_keithzg: graphic card is : AMD R9 270X and driver is : fglrx22:03
keithzgalexis_: So did the reinstall appear to go fine?22:04
alexis_nope it has not solved the problem22:04
keithzgalexis_: Which fglrx package are you using?22:06
alexis_keithzg : fglrx official, the one in the repositories, not fglrx-updates nor another22:07
keithzgalexis_: I think at this point for 14.04, the fglrx and fglrx-updates packages are one and the same; at the very least they have the same version strings.22:10
alexis_keithzg : sorry i did not know22:10
keithzgalexis_: No worries, that definitely isn't true for all releases, and I had to double-check a moment ago to make sure my recollection was accurate here :)22:11
keithzgalexis_: I haven't had issues with my main AMD GPU'd machine at home, but it's still on the fglrx(-updates) 2:13.350.1-0ubuntu2 package, presumably you also upgraded to 2:15.200-0ubuntu0.3 ?22:13
alexis_keithzg: how can i check the version from a terminal ?22:15
keithzgalexis_: apt-cache policy fglrx22:15
keithzgThat should show you which versions are available, and show which is actually installed (and from which repo)22:16
alexis_keithzg: it is indeed the 2:15.200-0ubuntu0.322:16
alexis_keithzg: I removed-purged fglrx, I am installing it againt, just to see.22:18
keithzgalexis_: Fingers crossed, then. If not, you said can see problems shown in your logfiles? Could you put one up on a paste site? (the "pastebinit" terminal utility can help with that)22:19
keithzgA logfile might make it a bit easier to figure out quite what's going wrong...frankly I've luckily avoided any such dire issues with AMD cards at least so far! (NVIDIA was another issue, heh)22:20
keithzgBut if a purge and reinstall works, well, then that's good enough :)22:20
alexis_keithzg: it's not enough apparently lol22:27
keithzgalexis_: heh, alas22:27
alexis_keithzg: the curious thing is that when I got to a shell, dkms needed an update22:28
DoyleIn 15.04, sound works in Firefox but not chrome. Why would that be?22:28
keithzgDoyle: Perhaps they're using different audio outputs, check the sound settings in System Settings and see if any of the categories are set odd. Although I've frankly had a few bits of weirdness with sound in 15.04 in general (ex. if I don't have my earbuds plugged in before booting sound never redirects to them after I plug them in).22:30
Finetundrahow would one port a windows cursor pack to kubuntu?22:34
=== N3X15_ is now known as N3X15
DoyleEverything looks fine keithzg.22:34
DoyleMaybe that there's just no html5 sound in chrome...22:37
keithzgalexis_: Hmm. And apt-cache policy on dkms presumably shows version 2.2.0.3-1.1ubuntu5.14.04.1 installed?22:39
alexis_keithzg: yes exactly22:40
keithzgFinetundra: My first thought would be to download a mouse theme from http://kde-look.org/?xcontentmode=36 and see how those are structured.22:41
keithzgDoyle: Hmm, there's definitely HTML5 sound for me on my 15.04 laptop using Chrome personally. I don't have it with me at the moment to check our respective setups against eachother though, sadly.22:42
keithzgalexis_: So, time to peruse some log files, perhaps?22:42
alexis_keithzg: I have been looking for something in them, not found anything yet22:43
Finetundracool, willl do22:43
keithzgFinetundra: Oh, also ran across this: http://kde-look.org/kb/How+to+create+a+cursor+theme/?kbid=477&PHPSESSID=cae22:43
keithzgFinetundra: As usual the Arch wiki has some more detailed technical info that's pertinent: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Cursor_themes . Best of luck!22:45

keithzgalexis_: Do you game much? If you don't actually need optimal 3D performance, you could always just use the opensource drivers instead (much less buggy).22:50
alexis_keithzg: I game and use CAD/Sim softwares. I found an error with xorg, which couldn't find /etc/X11/X22:51
Finetundrahmm, keithzg, do you know how I would create a cursor theme pack? not just a cursor22:51
keithzgFinetundra: Basically, that how-to short guide would be for each image in the pack, and then if you download a full theme you should get an idea of how the packs are structured and be able to just replicate (or replace, piece by piece) it. I believe so, at least!22:55
keithzgalexis_: Hmm, drat.22:55
keithzgalexis_: Oh, hmm, maybe fglrx is failing to create its default X config22:56
keithzgalexis_: Or does /etc/X11/X indeed not actually exist?22:57
alexis_keithzg: it does not exist, startx doesn't work22:58
keithzgalexis_: Huh, that seems serious. Try reconfiguring the xserver-xorg package?22:59
alexis_keithzg: it worked like a charm, thank you very much for your help23:01
keithzgalexis_: Oho! I wonder what caused that to mess up, huh. Good to hear it's working now though :)23:01
Finetundrawell, I'm stumped23:02
alexis_keithzg: now, my login always brings me back to the login interface !!!23:02
keithzgalexis_: Hrmmm. What's your free space looking like?23:02
keithzgalexis_: I've had that issue before when I wasn't paying attention and ran out of disk space on my home partition.23:03
alexis_what command could i use ?23:03
keithzgdf -h23:03
keithzg"df" is the "disk free" command, showing how much space is free on each 'disk', and the "-h" flag tells it to print easily human-readable formats.23:04
alexis_keithzg: I have 171Go available, so I guess I should have a look at kubuntu-desktop etc23:04
keithzgalexis_: Hmm, yeah, maybe other packages in your update failed somehow in their installs too.23:05
alexis_keithzg: Do you know of a way to reconfigure them all ?23:06
keithzgalexis_: Well, if it's that a bunch failed to properly configure, good ol' "sudo dpkg --configure -a" could do the trick.23:07
keithzgalexis_: If that doesn't solve things, then the Hail Mary is "sudo dpkg-reconfigure --all"23:08
keithzgThat might take a LOOOOOOONG time, heh.23:08
alexis_keithzg: that's what I was thinking of :d23:09
keithzgalexis_: Yeah I had to do that before myself once, after I'd done a huge update and it turned out one of the sticks of RAM I had in was bad.23:10
alexis_keithzg: ah, interesting : initramfs-tools is broken or not fully installed23:10
keithzgalexis_: Oho, that'd definitely explain dkms failing23:12
alexis_keithzg: if I log as a guest, it loads kde properly, but my session does not work23:14
keithzgalexis_: Hmm. Try renaming the .kde folder?23:15
alexis_keithzg: no change23:16
keithzgalexis_: Hmm, so it's clearly something else. Hmmmmm. is there anything in your .xsession-errors file?23:17
alexis_keithzg: init: Disconnected from notified D-Bus Bus23:18
alexis_keithzg: init: startkde main process (2919) killed by TERM signal23:19
keithzgalexis_: Hmm. Could you put up /var/log/Xorg.0.log and ~/.xsession-errors on a paste site?23:22
alexis_keithzg: paste.ubuntu.com/1188519723:26
alexis_keithzg: paste.ubuntu.com/1188521423:33
keithzgalexis_: Hmm. Yeah, I dunno. Nothing obvious jumps out at me there :(23:38
alexis_keithzg: thanks for your help23:38
keithzgalexis_: Oh, actually, can you check /var/log/lightdm/lightdm.log ?23:39
ahoneybunlightdm?23:39
keithzgahoneybun: Yeah, alexis_ is running 14.04 still so presumably still on lightdm23:40
ahoneybunoh right23:40
alexis_keithzg: good idea, looking at it now23:41
keithzgalexis_: Since it's only your user, you might also take a gander at /var/log/auth.log23:41
keithzgMaybe there's just some permissions wonkiness somehow going on.23:41
alexis_keithzg: paste.ubuntu.com/11885264 the dbus error can be seen around 84823:46
keithzgalexis_: What's the ownership look like on your ~/.Xauthority file?23:49
alexis_keithzg: root root23:49
keithzgrun "sudo chown alexis:alexis .Xauthority" and see if that fixes anything.23:50
alexis_keithzg: it worked, thank you very much, it would have taken me ages to figure that out by myself23:52
alexis_keithzg: I don't know what caused all of this, it must have started with a failed update23:54
alexis_keithzg: games & CAD softwares are working properly23:58
alexis_keithzg: thank you again23:58
keithzgalexis_: No problem! Yeah, it must have all cascaded somehow from the failed update, sometimes things fail like that. Chaos Theory at work ;)23:58
alexis_keithzg: yeah murphy's law and all that stuff combined :)23:59
