ahoneybundamn I can't mount anything on my media card reader...00:19
ahoneybungot it00:37
aaron1234Help! When booting after the splash im stuck at a black background with mouse cursor and nothing else01:19
aaron1234Tried deleting my users kde folder01:20
ahoneybunaaron1234: ctrl + alt + f201:21
ahoneybunand type sudo killall Xorg01:21
aaron1234Whats weird is if i su to root and startx a default session comes up fine01:21
ahoneybunyea01:21
ahoneybunare you are 15.04 or 15.10?01:21
aaron1234K let me try that01:21
aaron1234Haha i forget how can i check01:22
aaron1234Oh 15.0401:22
ahoneybunok01:22
aaron1234Interesting when i do the killall01:23
aaron1234It brings me to the kde gui login01:23
aaron1234But if i login im back to black background01:23
ahoneybunthat is very odd01:24
ahoneybunusing startx gets you back to a desktop?01:25
aaron1234Yeah i always manage to screw stuff up01:25
aaron1234Only as root01:25
aaron1234If i do it as my user its the same black01:25
ahoneybunyea startx might have permissons for only root01:26
aaron1234Its probably related to my video card01:26
aaron1234Nvidia quadro k4000 and the ubuntu drivers wont work i have to use sgfxi01:26
ahoneybunwhat card01:26
aaron1234After the last update it wouldnt boot until i set the gfxmode to "keep" in grub config01:27
ahoneybunhigh end graphics card there01:27
aaron1234Was giving me a "invalid video mode text"01:27
aaron1234Yeah01:27
aaron1234Nightmare with linux :(01:27
ahoneybunthere are a few problems drivers related being worked on01:28
ahoneybunbest to stick with free nvidia driver perhaps01:28
ahoneybunI have the nvidia prime setup (intel+nvidia) and it was a pain in the beginning01:29
aaron1234It doesnt work at all01:29
aaron1234I spent sooo many hours trying to get it to work any other way but the proprietary driver jnstalled with sgfxi has been rhe only to work01:30
valoriebut once you startx with root, doesn't that mean your user *cannot* use it anymore?01:31
valoriein other words, using root privs wrecked it01:31
valorie!sudo01:32
ubottusudo is a command to run command-line programs with superuser privileges ("root") (also see !cli). Look at https://help.ubuntu.com/community/RootSudo for more information. For graphical applications see !pkexec (for older releases: !gksu and !kdesudo). If you're unable to execute commands with sudo see: http://www.psychocats.net/ubuntu/fixsudo01:32
aaron1234Really?01:32
valorieone can use chmod to fix, but startx is pretty deep in the stack01:32
valorieaaron1234: we get people here who have done that, all the time01:33
valorieunfortunately01:33
aaron1234What do i need to chmod to fix it01:33
valorie!chmod01:34
ubottuAn explanation of what file permissions are and how they can be manipulated can be found at https://help.ubuntu.com/community/FilePermissions01:34
valoriegood question01:34
valoriedunno the answer though01:34

SchokoriegelIs there any way how to get the burning Windows effect in KDE? I'm really desperate I had them in Ubuntu 12.04 but they took them out in the 14.04 release :/ there not available in the repos anymore either04:01
valorieburning windows?04:05
valorieno clue what you're talking about?04:06
SchokoriegelThe burning Windows effect when minimizing Windows like in 12.0404:08
valoriehttp://askubuntu.com/questions/833/how-can-i-make-my-windows-burn-when-i-close-them ?04:10
valorienot something we've ever had in KDE or Kubuntu04:10
valoriebut of course you can use compiz if you prefer on kubuntu04:10
valorieSchokoriegel: ^^^04:11
Schokoriegelcompiz-fusion-plugins-extra no I prefer Kwin04:11
valoriesorry, no idea04:13
Schokoriegelwould be nice to have something like that on kwin04:13
Schokoriegelwait I send you a youtube then you maybe know what i am talking about04:13
valorieperhaps ask on kubuntuforum or so04:13
valorieperhaps on KDE forums then, if you want a change in kwin04:13
Schokoriegel]like this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XnbPe33ofr404:14
SchokoriegelI know it's compiz not Kwin04:14
Schokoriegelbut I like Kwin better04:14
Schokoriegeldo you now know what i am talking about04:16
Schokoriegel?04:26
valorieI agree, kwin is the best04:26
Schokoriegeldid you see04:26
valorieand I've never seen that on the list of effects available04:26
valoriesince, like .... ever04:27
valoriebut you can certainly request it04:27
Schokoriegellooks nice doesn't it?04:27
Schokoriegelwould be so epic to have that in kwin04:28
Schokoriegelin addition to all the other effects :O04:28
Schokoriegelhow can you request stuff?04:30
valorieSchokoriegel: you can file a bug against kwin, and cite the video as a "wish"04:40
valorieand no, I don't use many effects04:40
valoriewould never use that04:40
Schokoriegelwhy?04:41
SchokoriegelKde is made to look eye catchy04:41
Schokoriegeldo you have a link or something?04:43
valorieI'm fine with you having what you like!04:43
Schokoriegelthx me to :D... I had those flame effects in ubuntu back and it would fit perfectly to KDE04:44
FinetundraI agree05:07
valorieSchokoriegel: sorry, I missed you asking for a link05:09
valoriehttps://bugs.kde.org05:09
Schokoriegelwow thanks and just say it is a wish?05:13
valorieexactly05:14
valoriewhat changes a wish into a feature is someone willing to make it happen05:14
SchokoriegelDamn I never find the right topic in there? there is way to much05:38
valoriekwin is the product05:39
valorieeffect is what you want05:40
Schokoriegelshould I just search kwin05:40

tmares98good morning16:14
tmares98could anyone help me with dual boot problems using windows 7 and kubuntu16:15
tmares98i created the partitions and kubuntu seemed to have installed properly and also created a swap partition. yet when i restart the pc, it only boots to windows 716:16
BluesKajtmares98,   open your live media with the kubuntu image on it , then choose run kubuntu , once you have a desktop open a terminal and do sudo grub-install /dev/sda/  assuming sda is the partition your windows install is using. Then run sudo update-grub and the windows OS should show up in grub list and you're done16:36
tmares98ok so just to see if i understand correctly, i boot from cd and choose try ubuntu?16:39

watsugHi I have a problem, try to use the Ubuntu SDK. When it start I get this error; click-chroot-agent[4326]: Could not  register DBUS service. Why is this and what can I do about it?20:38
ahoneybunwatsug: does the SDK still start up?20:41
watsugYes20:42
watsugIt has some error messages in the log when trying to run a HTML5 app, even just the default  that is created with a new project.20:44
ahoneybunwatsug: I had that message put it as well. Not sure of the cause20:46
ahoneybunI know it does not come up in Ubuntu though20:46
watsugOk, so maybe there's some file missing that is included with Unity.20:46
ahoneybunmaybe, we could be using something different in dbus for something KDE related20:47
watsugThis is the errors in the log when I try to run a new project, the app still start. http://pastebin.com/aJe3xXZj20:47
watsugGuess I will install Ubuntu then.20:53
watsugThanks for the help ahoneybun20:53
ahoneybunwatsug: the message does not break anything from what I can tell20:54
ahoneybunI've been using Kubuntu for development20:54
watsugHmm, guess no need to switch then :)20:55
ahoneybunyea20:55
ahoneybunno real reason really20:55
ahoneybununless you like Unity or something20:55
ahoneybunI've done development in Ubuntu GNOME and Xubuntu as well20:56
watsugMay I ask, have you gotten --inspect working like it is described in the "Meanings app guide"?20:56
watsugNo, I really like the way plasma 5 look :)20:57
ahoneybun--inspect?20:58
watsugIf you launch it in terminal --inspector enables debugging server20:59
watsugThat can be connected to with a webkit browser20:59
watsug$ ubuntu-html5-app-launcher --www=www --inspector20:59
watsugas per this tutorial; https://developer.ubuntu.com/en/apps/html-5/tutorials/meanings-app-html5-tutorial/20:59
ahoneybunoh21:05
ahoneybunhave not used it21:05
watsugok21:13
watsugIn this tutorial they also talk about a /js/app.js, "the app specific javascript file" But my app base instead has application.js, are they the same, maybe it was changed during developtment?21:15
