[01:20] Does anyone know if KDE partition manager uses QT? I'm wondering why its fonts are so huge and ugly compared to the rest of my applications? [01:23] The wikipedia entry told me. Sorry for having asked. === Dhs92 is now known as Yukkii [01:42] Hello, I have a bug that has already been reported. The fix involves adding a PPA and updating plasma. To my knowledge Plasma is already updated, so I'm a bit confused. Would someone care to help me out? [02:29] Hi all. Sometimes when I'm taking a screenshot, everything disappears except for my mouse and my desktop background. [02:30] The mouse is still reactive in some capacity, mousing over invisible elements. Is there any way to reset things from the keyboard? [02:30] I usually just use the reset button on my computer, but that's a bit of a sledgehammer solution. [04:15] xset dpms force off <--trying to set a hot key for this to turn off my monitors whenever I want [04:15] it works, but only for a second [04:15] any ideas? [04:15] they go black and then come right back [04:16] to be clear: it works if I run the command via terminal [04:16] but not if I apply a hotkey [04:17] DrJ: make a script with the command and hook the script to the key [04:17] maybe. [04:17] will try [04:18] :( [04:18] didn't work [04:19] made the command: ./home/jeremy/monitor [04:19] and had xset dpms force off in the monitor file [04:19] it did the same thing, off for a couple seconds then back [04:20] not sure, have not mess with hotkeys in KDE [04:20] just Unity, but very little [04:22] okay [04:22] feel free to call me an idiot [04:22] I didn't hit apply after changing the command [04:22] it does work :) [04:23] thanks! [04:23] yay :) [04:24] I'm happy it worked DrJ [04:24] yea, me too [04:24] reason it is kind of important is the power button broke off my monitor [04:24] well, one of the two [04:25] only way for me to turn on/off my monitor the normal way is to use a flat head screw driver or something to complete the cicuit [04:25] this is way easier [04:29] oh boy === Yukkii is now known as Dhs92 [05:19] hey folks, muon updater has been notifying that there are updates, but when I open it up it says there's no updates. what gives? === k is now known as Guest58004 === Dhs92 is now known as Yukkii === ssr is now known as snake-ssr [07:23] Hello === regedit_ is now known as regedit [09:03] hi all, I just install kubuntu 15.04, and its really buggy under redeon driver, it's running just fine if i'm using fglrx. I didn't get this on 14.10.. is there something i need to know about this? [09:04] I prefer using radeon driver, its create additional and unecessary work if i have to install fglrx just to have smoth system.. [09:45] Good morning. === paulc_ is now known as Guest99255 [11:05] Hey folks [11:06] Hi :) [11:08] I need help setting up fcitx on my system to write in japanese/chinese. I've got the whole thing working in the Configure Input Method window (I can actually switch and write in this window), but I cannot switch in any other window/app… Rebooting doesn't help. Any clues? [11:47] ok, I posted on askubuntu… http://askubuntu.com/questions/650173/how-to-properly-set-up-fcitx-on-kubuntu-15-04 [12:13] I activated "no border" by right clicking on a windows titlebar. How can I get the titlebar back? [12:27] I solved my problem with no border by pressing Alt F3 to open the window menu. [12:58] watsug, dunno [12:59] I always use the borders [12:59] Me too, just tried it out and didn't know how to get them back :P [13:00] That is allways the problem with that, but it forces you to learn ;) === JLP_ is now known as 7GHAAP98L === 7GHAAP98L is now known as JLP [13:38] hi, i want conect to #kubuntu-es but show a advice "#kubuntu-es Cannot join channel (+i) - you must be invited" some are conected to this channel for invit me? === jorge is now known as jorge_ [14:03] !es [14:03] En la mayoría de los canales de Ubuntu, se habla sólo en inglés. [14:06] hello [14:07] o/ [14:08] do you know how to resolve update-mime not found [14:08] ? [14:08] hdd bad sector effect [14:09] Upside: If you have bad sectors the update-mime is the least of your troubles. Do you have a backup and a new hard-drive under way? [14:10] no i didn't have back up and another hard-drive :/ [14:10] am i must re-install? [14:11] No, take care of your backups first. When you have one bad sector more will follow. Eventually the disk will fail all together. [14:11] Make a backup, now. [14:11] ok [14:12] but i didn't have another hard-drive or another storage drive [14:12] back up to another partition? [14:15] That is not going to work. I'm afraid you'll have to buy a new drive to back up your important data. [14:16] yeah i didn't have important data [14:18] Hmm, that it doesn't really matter. Still bad sectors degrade performance. [14:19] yeah because this bad sector i can't set .jpg to wallpaper :3 [14:20] btw how many price to buy new hard-drive? [14:20] Depends, here (NL) you can get 2Tb for 100 euros. [14:21] can you convert to usd? [14:22] i just need 320Gb :D [14:23] Upside: Look up a web store in the us ;) [14:23] ok [14:24] btw between external hard-drive and internal hard-drive wich better? [14:24] i use this netbook from my mother office [14:24] so i didn't have netbook or pc [14:25] The internal is likely going to be faster. [14:25] owh ok [14:26] can internal hard-drive become external hard-drive? [14:28] An external harddrive is just an internal harddrive with a sata -> usb converter. [14:29] owh thanks and i'm sorry for my bad english :D peace [14:30] I have 2 external drives with esata to sata connections , work well [14:31] no need for usb [14:31] are you using cpu/pc? [14:31] Yeah, there are others but the most common is sata -> usb. [14:31] Upside: What? [14:32] no. i ask BluesKaj [14:32] :D [14:33] Upside: Use someone's nick when you are addressing them. [14:33] i'm sorry :3 [14:37] Upside, I just run the esata to sata cable thriugh a knockout on the back of mypc to the motherboard [14:41] ubottu, if you have newer laptop then you probly have at least one sata port [14:41] BluesKaj: I am only a bot, please don't think I'm intelligent :) [14:42] Upside, ^ :-) [14:44] ehh what happen? [14:46] sata is faster than usb [14:50] utt not all laptops have a sata port , best to check first [14:50] but [14:51] Esata*, esata != sata. [14:52] Every laptop nowadays has sata, not all have esata ports. [17:54] sysop2: You want to look into hostapd, with hostapd you can create an access point for your network. [17:56] thanks! That of course happens only on fast scenes and high resolutions. The cpu is not the issue because it is at 10-15% or something. I am n kubuntu 15.04. Is there anything i could do to make the video perform better? My lcd resolution is 1980x1080 and i am using the [20:06] integrated intel graphics in my I7 cpu. Does anybody have anything to advise? [20:08] I have not seen that naftilos76 [20:08] but I just play some movies [20:10] it is not a big deal, i am just noticing it every now and then. [20:11] naftilos76: your using the nonfree or free driver for the intel card? [20:12] card/board [20:13] I am not sure which one it is [20:13] how can i know? [20:14] i have not added any extra repos to download any deb packages from non-official sources [20:22] naftilos76: sorry had to do something [20:22] naftilos76: you can open up Driver Manager and check [20:23] but most likely you have the free one [20:24] I did that, all i can see is "Using Processor microcode firmware for Intel CPUs from intel-microcode" [20:26] this is a laptop and it has also got a Nvidia Gefrce 840M. The same thing happens when i use the nvidia. I switched to the integrated for less consumption [20:26] not sure I' have not see that "line" [20:26] naftilos76: oh you have nvidia optimus [20:27] i have disabled nvidia from bios and now i can only see the intel in "driver manager" [20:27] it doesn't really make any difference [20:31] its screan tearing [20:31] do you have hybrid graphic ? [20:31] yep [20:32] on intel yu have the ame problem ? [20:32] on both [20:32] strange it works pretty good for me on intel [20:32] not a problem, more like an imperfection [20:33] are you on 15.04? [20:33] resolution? [20:33] but be sure to disable compositor for fullscreen windows [20:33] and second tging [20:34] Tearing Prevention (vsync): to fulscrean repaints [20:34] I just noticed that it does not happens when i switch to full screen! [20:34] does not happen [20:35] it only happens in window mode [20:36] full screen window is the worst case but when i double click on the video and it goes full screen then the artifacts go away [20:36] i just realized, sorry guys. [20:37] naftilos76: check if both settings imentioned are set in System Settings -> Display & Monitor -> Compositor === soee_ is now known as soee [20:40] i did that and i am still getting the issue. If i get back to the settings it is not selected [20:44] i get a warning that this is not compatible with all kinds of graphics cards [20:44] ignore this warnign [20:44] it could work with the nvidia [20:46] i will give it a try [21:50] when trying to send a file to the trash I get a "cannot rename" error === kubuntu is now known as Guest37121 === IdleOne is now known as Guest92299 === Guest92299 is now known as IdleOne === jorge_ is now known as jorge === jorge is now known as jorge_ === rafael is now known as Guest9448
