sim642udisks is being acting weird for me, I have a dead mount process for an SD card which is not connected anymore and that's preventing me from using it again10:46
sim642I have no idea how to tell udisks and whatnot that the device doesn't exist anymore10:47
sim642udisksctl still lists the device like it is attached10:48

holsterHello. I am using the latest LTS release of Ubuntu, but I want to change to Xubuntu since I do not really like the Unity desktop environment since it is a bit awkward and slow. However, I had a rather major issue after installing Ubuntu and that was wifi disconnecting after about ten minutes of usage. This was fixed with downloading and installing better drivers for my wireless card. Would it be necessary to do that after installing17:05
holsterOr is it not certain that would happen? Thanks in advance for any replies.17:06

ubottuPlease don't ask to ask a question, simply ask the question (all on ONE line and in the channel, so that others can read and follow it easily). If anyone knows the answer they will most likely reply. :-) See also !patience23:07
knomeconsidering we are all volunteers, i have no estimation23:07
xubuntu81wI can't connect to wifi i connected to wired connection, maybe i don't have some drivers?23:09
xubuntu70wHi ! I have an issue whern installing xubuntu. I have a pc with windows 8.1 and ubuntu. when I try to install xubuntu and choose something else for creating partitions, the error message is: identical mount points for 2 systems...23:19
xubuntu70wany idea?23:19
knomeso, what exactly are you trying to do with the partitioning?23:20
xubuntu70wI try to install xubuntu alongside windows and ubuntu and try to set up the size for the partitions / and /home...23:21
knomeit sounds like you are trying to use the ubuntu partitions for the xubuntu installation23:22
xubuntu70wwhat I don't knome...23:22
xubuntu70wwheinstalling ubuntu I didnt the same.... i chjhose something else and set up my partitions as I wanted... and did the same for xubuntu..23:23
knomeok, since you have ubuntu installed, are you sure the installer isn't trying to automatically mount the ubuntu partitions for you?23:23
knomehence the message; the installer likely thinks you are trying to mount two / or /home partitions23:24
xubuntu70wfor ubuntu I have sda6 sda7 and sda 8 for /  /home and swap... and for xubuntu I have sda9 sda10 sda11 for /  /home and swap23:24
knomeand finally, why don't you just install the xubuntu-desktop metapackage in ubuntu?23:24
xubuntu70wI dont want.23:24
xubuntu70wbecause it installs other programs23:25
xubuntu70wand i will like to try xubuntu in full scope23:25
xanguathen just install xfce or xfce-core23:28
knomexubuntu-core you mean, but it's not available on all releases.23:29
xubuntu70wyes I could... but if I stay with my solution... any idea why it doesnt work?23:30
knomexubuntu70w, you are trying to mount two file systems/partitions to the same mount point, either automatically or manually23:30
xubuntu70whow is it possible if for ubuntu I have sda6 / sda7 /home sda8 swap and for xubuntu I have sda9 / sda10 /home and sda11 swap??23:32
knomei don't know, but that's what the installer is telling.23:33
xubuntu70wif I renamed sda9 / in /1 for example would it solve the issue??23:34
xubuntu70wor xubuntu wouldnt install under the root?23:34
knomeyou need a / partition23:36
xubuntu70wok23:36
xubuntu70wthe exact message is: identical mount points for 2 file systems.... 2 file systems are assigned the same mount point (/):SCS11 (0.0.0), partition#6 (sda) and SCS11 (0.0.0) partition #9 (sda)23:38
knomethere you go; you are trying to mount sda6 and sda9 to /23:39
xubuntu70wyes thats want I want to do.... but 1 for ubuntu and 1 for xubuntu...23:39
knomeyes, but you are trying to mount both partitions to / in your xubuntu installation23:40
knomethat's what the installer is trying to tell you23:40
xubuntu70wok23:40
knomemake sure the sda6/sda7 partitions aren't mounted at all for xubuntu23:40
xubuntu70wok23:42
xubuntu70wI understand what you say but I dont see how it is possible..23:42
xubuntu70wbecause I take the free space and use it to create my partitions...23:43
knomexubuntu70w, it is likely the installer recognises those partitions and marks them to be mounted automatically23:44
xubuntu70wthanks anyway for the answers...23:45
xubuntu70wand your time..23:47
xubuntu70wi have another question... how to mount the same swap partition for 2 distros??23:54
xubuntu70wor the same /home partition for 2 distros??23:56
