[12:09] Detroit Makerfaire was great! === ColonelPanic002_ is now known as ColonelPanic001 [13:46] Morning [13:46] brousch: That's awesome! :) [13:49] I'd never been to the Henry Ford. It was overwhelming [13:49] Yeah, there's a lot to it [13:49] It's a two-day museum [13:49] It was hard to drag George past the regular exhibits so we could do all of the maker stuff [13:49] One day for Henry Ford, one day for Greenfield Village [13:51] brousch: yeah, you should go back. Its great. [13:52] We haven't been there much this year, but most years we go to HFM at least twice and to the Village at least twice. [13:52] It was only 2hrs and 15min drive, too [13:53] I was most impressed and saddened by all the great booths by i3, Lansing Makers Network, AHA, etc. Sad because it reminded me of how dysfunctional our maker communities are in GR [13:54] i3 is HUGE now. Its grown so much. [13:55] The build your car and race it was incredible [13:56] My son's favorite was the droids, and the Artemis shap ship bridge simulator [13:56] space ship [13:56] the wood box car... who ran that, AHA? I know they had lots of Ann Arbor First volunteers [13:57] I thought that was i3 [13:57] they might have had one too, but the one i"m thinking of wasn't i3. [13:57] oh, it was MakerSpace [13:57] ah, right [13:57] Maker-Works. [13:57] sorry. [13:58] I hadn't heard of it [13:58] I had, but I better have, because they are just on the other side of town :) [13:58] oh, and I've been at all but hte first maker faire. :) [13:59] This year, I don't feel like anything really stood out. It was really like a mix of all the past years. [14:01] A lot of it was "take something you know, and make it really big" [14:01] hot wheels loop, battleship, operation [14:03] ah, yeah. I think the take away on those is that its fun to make and someone actually made it. [14:03] did you watch mentos and coke? [14:04] No, we missed it [14:04] damn! [14:04] its really worth seeing once. [14:04] We skipped it this year, because it doesn't change, even my daughter got bored :) [14:05] But they explain it all and show some of their different tests and say "TRY THIS AT HOME" :) [14:05] The fiber arts section was good [14:05] what is that? [14:05] knitting [14:05] ah, yup. [14:05] about the same as the past couple years, so we breezed through that area. [14:06] They did a good job of bringing in typically female interests. My wife was actually excited to go [14:06] oh yeah. [14:07] My wife is who saved the date and picked the day :) [14:09] I think it helped that I pushed my wife out of the house this year to socialize with other people. She joined a knitting club and Hacker Gals [14:19] always a good idea. [14:38] cmaloney: Who do you have going to PyOhio this year? [14:42] Too soon to tell [14:42] This week has not been kind to us. [14:42] JoDee's dad might have JoDee take off [14:43] And we learned this morning that JoDee's sister's boyfriend's sister killed herself last night / this morning [14:43] So not sure what is going on. [14:44] On Sunday JoDee said I was going to PyOhio if for no other reason than to drive Andy (her friend) down there. [14:44] I know my boss, his wife, and several of my co-workers are going. [14:44] Hm, complicated :( [14:44] <_stink_> yikes. [14:45] Well we're in the Blackwell this year, so we'll meetup if you make it down [14:45] brousch: Finally figured out the correct way to PyOhio [14:45] ;) [14:46] Well some years people want to be cheap [14:46] We have 7 from GRPUG this year [14:46] Nice! [14:48] On guy is driving himself and staying with a friend in Columbus
