[11:56] aloha [11:57] good afternoon [11:58] so did you get supermacs when over? [12:00] nope [12:00] :( [12:00] did eat in jimmy chungs all you can eat buffet instead [12:00] and hung out at the trinity capital hotel [12:00] like old times [12:01] yup :) [12:01] we did have 60 people at the first meet up which was great [12:01] and looking to go back again in september [12:02] i'm actually going to be in Dublin in October [12:02] there's a linux conference on, that work have suggested i go to [12:04] oh linux conf EU [12:04] yes it's a good one [12:04] I'll be in NYC :( [12:04] aye, that's the one [12:04] fortunately work are paying [12:04] but you'll be in ny!! :-) [12:05] i thought your dog isn't allowing you to leave again? [12:09] he's very uspet :( [12:09] poor little doggy used to me being at home all day [12:11] and he's thinking: "why did you punish me? have i been bad?" [12:12] :( [12:12] one of the joys of cats... oh you're back, there's a litter box there with your name on it... [12:13] heh [12:14] that's because cats don't care about you [12:14] cats do care, they just are more aloof [12:17] cats only care that you're there to feed them and provide warmth [12:17] if you died, they would eat you [12:17] whereas a dog would wait for you to wake up [12:18] that's cat's been practical. they don't waste anything. very environmental. [12:18] * slashbel really hates cats [12:18] when a cat brings you a dead mouse it's showing concern that it thinks you can't hunt for yourself [12:18] * zmoylan-pi adores moggies of all sizes [12:19] usually that mouse would not be dead [12:19] often it is still alive just enough [12:19] slashbel: so on last weeks internal flight there was 1 dog and 1 cat on board [12:19] it's how cats teach their young. seems cruel but it's merely their way of teaching [12:19] am getting better at keeping an eye out [12:20] seemingly on many internal EU flights you cna bring pets on board also [12:20] so somethjing to keep in mind [12:20] czajkowski you must do enough air miles that you could stand in to do the safety demonstration :-) [12:20] and they dont care if you're allergic or not. thye'll move you so you're not near them [12:20] czajkowski: internal British/CTA flight? [12:20] CTA ? [12:20] common travel area [12:20] zmoylan-pi: indeed, got given out to last week for not taking my headphones off [12:20] UK, Ireland, Isle of Man etc [12:20] asked would it have changed since monday when I listneed to it twice [12:21] not sure htye were so keen on my sarcasim [12:21] slashbel: ah not sure exactly, seen it in france, rome and spain [12:21] aye, when you mentioned it earlier i looked up airline rules [12:22] it seems the budget carriers are best [12:22] ryanair, easyjet, aer lingus, flybe do not allow pets in the cabin [12:22] cool so at least you know now [12:22] luft hansa were the only one i could find that permit them [12:22] what about guide dogs? [12:22] allowed [12:22] in the plane [12:23] that doesn't make them not a dog... [12:23] aye, thanks for warning me. it never occured to me that people would take cats in the cabin [12:23] dogs are fine [12:23] i am extremely allergic to cats [12:23] well i've heard a few stories of cats getting lose in the hold. not a creature you want lose in the wiring... [12:23] slashbel: aye and many people are so the airline offers to move you far away from the seat [12:23] as in, get me to a hospital when i'm around them for more than a couple of hours [12:24] czajkowski: i bet they don't thoroughly clean the plane afterwards [12:24] are the cats ever allowed out of their cages, do you know? [12:24] I've never seen any plane immaculate tbh [12:24] slashbel: nope never [12:24] they could easily provide a cat carrier that would prevent hair getting onto the plane and irritating allergic people [12:24] good, that fur will just get everywhere [12:25] zmoylan-pi: it doesn't irritate me, it stops me breathing [12:25] i have been hospitalised several times over it [12:26] not something to require when you're airbourne [12:26] * zmoylan-pi is surrounded by cats, feral and land lords. wouldn't be your cup of tea. no mice or rats though [12:26] and even if i don't need hospitalisation, it will take days for me to recover [12:26] that's why i'm grateful to czajkowski's warning, i now check an airline's rule [12:26] don't they have a jabs you can give yourself if it ever flares up now? [12:27] i have an asthma inhaler [12:27] slashbel: but no epi pen? [12:27] it keeps me alive but it takes days to recover, and i'm a pretty fit person [12:28] it's not anathalatic shock, it's asthma [12:28] most asthma is allergy triggered, unfortunately for a lot of people it's an allergy to dust [12:28] at least i can at most times keep cats away [12:28] ebel is very helpful and will throw stones at cats for me [12:28] * zmoylan-pi hands slashbel a nerf pistol to deter cats... [12:29] water gun is better, cats hate water [12:29] nerf make water pistols too [12:29] and some cats love water [12:31] when we get settled someone, we will get a dog - ebel promised to train it to keep the cats away. horrible things [12:32] weirdly the best thing to keep cats away is another cat. it seems illogical but my father who didn't like cats much got a cat to keep others away, then trained that one to stay away from him [12:34] so I am allergic and scared of cats [12:34] adn sure enough where ever I go [12:34] cats come to me first over someone who love cats [12:34] it's annoying [12:34] cats do seem to be attracted to people who can't abide cats. have never worked that out [12:35] my sister in law is terrified of them. [12:35] swinging my boot at them is usually effective [12:36] it'll be sooooo hard to train a dog to chase cats:P [12:36] it makes them stay out of your way, doesn't make them leave area. cats are +10 stealth [12:36] germans don't seem as big into cats [12:36] czajkowski: just shows. Cats are evil and will go for the weakest person they can sense [12:37] I saw a neighbour bringing their cat for a walk on a lead a while ago :P [12:37] one of our neighbours has one, and takes it for a walk on a leash [12:37] germans do seem to be more dog people. dogs are more logical perhaps to their way of thinking [12:38] and it's more logical to have an animal who loves you [12:38] ebel: I ahve no problem in firing a shoe [12:39] cats do love you. just show it different [12:39] gits
