oghenebrorhiehello01:37
oghenebrorhieis anybody out here01:40
nixnineI have installed the 14.04 lts but am having difficulty setting up wireless. Can any assist me in this?07:25
nixninelspci shows ethernet controller but not a network controller?  is that a prob there?07:27
freshcutcandyhi18:07
freshcutcandyi dont have a midi keyboard yet18:07
freshcutcandygetting one on monday18:08
freshcutcandyhow do i grab the synth in ardour18:08
freshcutcandywhat i mean is, the midi jack keyboard wont hold onto the synth so i can program it18:09
freshcutcandyXGrabKey() failed; keyboard grabbing not possible.  Maybe some other application grabbed the keyboard?18:09
holstein"grab the synth"?18:17
holsteinhold onto the synth, so you can program it?18:17
holsteinyou want to, in ardour, map keys on the midi keyboard to functions inside ardour?18:18
freshcutcandyyes18:22
holsteinfreshcutcandy: try seaching for the term "mapping" then, even in the ardour manual.. that may to the trick for you, when you get the actual device18:22
freshcutcandywell i know how how to use a midi keyboard18:23
freshcutcandymine broke hehe18:23
freshcutcandyso i wanted to use my typing keyboard18:23
holsteinsure.. map what you like18:23
freshcutcandymapping ok18:23
holsteinthough, i think you will find that more challenging, since, the implication is that its to be used as a qwerty keyboard..18:23
holsteinyou may find the current mappings to be enoudh18:23
holsteinenough*18:23
holsteinthough, maybe i am completely mis-understanding what you are trying to "replace"18:24
holsteinand, you may be just simplying wanting a virtual keyboard, that can be controled via qwerty18:24
holsteinfor that, i would use..18:24
freshcutcandywhat i want to do is preview notes and program synth while playing the typng keyboard as a midi keyboard18:24
holstein!info vkeybd18:25
ubottuvkeybd (source: vkeybd): Virtual MIDI Keyboard. In component universe, is optional. Version 1:0.1.18d-2 (vivid), package size 32 kB, installed size 176 kB18:25
freshcutcandyyes18:25
holstein!info jack-keyboard18:25
ubottujack-keyboard (source: jack-keyboard): Virtual MIDI keyboard for JACK MIDI. In component universe, is optional. Version 2.7.1-1 (vivid), package size 35 kB, installed size 117 kB18:25
freshcutcandyi want a virtual keyboard18:25
freshcutcandyi use that18:25
freshcutcandyit works18:25
holsteini would do that, in those applications, which, well just emulate the missing/broken midi keyboard18:25
freshcutcandybut it doesnt grab18:25
holsteinyou can route it, in jack, to ardour, or anywhere else18:25
holsteinfreshcutcandy: i dont understand what you mean by "grab"18:25
freshcutcandyklet me explain18:25
freshcutcandyif i load a synth and playing it the jack keyboard works but then if i want to play the synth and focus the the jack keyboard as soon as i clcik the synth gui the jack keyboard loses focus18:27
holsteinright18:27
holsteinso, start the recording, or whatever, and change the focus back, as you want18:27
freshcutcandyso i cant hld focus18:27
holsteinright18:27
holsteinthats understandable. you are basically juggling the tasks18:28
freshcutcandyon windows you can do that18:28
freshcutcandyare you sure its not possible18:28
freshcutcandythats what the grab feature is for18:28
holsteinfreshcutcandy: im quite sure, i can do what you are trying to do18:28
freshcutcandythough it not working18:28
freshcutcandyhow18:28
freshcutcandywhat am i doing wrong18:29
holsteinfreshcutcandy: simply chage the focus back, after i start rolling18:29
holsteinchange*18:29
freshcutcandyill try18:29
holsteinyou can also try disabling focus settings in the UI..18:29
holsteindont follow mouse, etc...18:29
freshcutcandyok where is that located18:31
freshcutcandyi see focus zoom18:31
holsteinxfce settings should have what you want to try tweaking18:32
holsteinits tricky, since, you want dual-use from the hardware18:32
holsteinbut, you should be able to simply, start the recording, or whatever you are doing, with preloaded time, then simply click and have the vkeyboard in use with the qwerty as the controller18:32
holsteinthat what i have done, in the past, with yoshimi's included vkeyboard.. simply adjusting the focus manually, after beginning the tracking..18:33
freshcutcandythis is not working18:35
freshcutcandyit wont focus18:35
holsteinfreshcutcandy: what wont focus? and when?.. have you tried vkeybd ?18:37
freshcutcandywell i was using jack keyboard18:38
freshcutcandyvkeybd not yet18:38
freshcutcandylet me try v keyboard18:38
holsteinfreshcutcandy: do me a favor, and try vkeybd.. since, i have used it, in the past, with success..18:39
freshcutcandyvirtual keyboard has no midi in18:40
freshcutcandyunder midi utilities18:41
freshcutcandyare you talking about another virtual keyboar18:41
freshcutcandyi do appreciate your help though18:41
holsteinfreshcutcandy: you dont need "midi in", though, correct?18:43
holsteinanyways, i use qjackctl to manage inputs and outputs to it. but, in the past, i literally open it, test that the qwerty keyboard controls it, which is the input to it18:44
holsteinthen, i route the output of vkeybd to whatever i want.. ardour, in your case.. the midi track18:44
holsteini dont need a midi input to vkeybd.. since, the reason im using it, is to control, in the absence of actual midi keyboard18:45
freshcutcandyhow does one properly connect jack keyboard in qjacktl in the way you said you do18:50
holsteindepends on how you have things configured18:50
holsteini used to have to use "a2jmidid" to have the sources show up in the tabs i needed18:50
holsteinto have alsa midi and jack midi connectable..18:50
freshcutcandyi ned to ask this on a froum since nobody else is replying though ai preriate your hel this is not solved18:51
freshcutcandythanx for thehelp though dude18:51
holsteinfreshcutcandy: sure. try #opensourcemusicians18:52
holsteinand also, the #aroud channel18:52
freshcutcandykk18:52
holstein#ardour18:52
holsteinfreshcutcandy: i assure you, i *have* done what you are trying to do18:52
holsteini understand, you want a more "turn key" setup. but, running a2jmidid is easy enough18:52
freshcutcandyhow do i do that18:52
freshcutcandyajmidid18:53
holsteina2jmidid18:53
freshcutcandyits not listed18:53
holsteini simply check that its installed.. "sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install a2jmidid".. then, i start it, in the terminal, then, i start vkeybd, and connect18:53
freshcutcandyill install it18:53
holstein!info a2jmidid18:54
ubottua2jmidid (source: a2jmidid): Daemon for exposing legacy ALSA MIDI in JACK MIDI systems. In component universe, is extra. Version 8~dfsg0-1ubuntu1 (vivid), package size 28 kB, installed size 122 kB18:54
freshcutcandyi cant find where the ajm is located18:55
holsteinfreshcutcandy: as i stated above, i simply run it in the terminal, by actually, literally typing "a2jmidid" in the terminal18:55
freshcutcandyk ran18:56
freshcutcandynow what18:56
holsteinfreshcutcandy: again, as i stated above, i now open qjackctl "connect" and in the midi and alsa tabs, i look for what i want to connect, and connect them18:56
freshcutcandyok i do see it18:57
holsteinwhich is, vkeybd output to the track in ardour input18:57
deliadhi22:00
deliadmy usb soundcard recognized but can't select in alsa mixer22:01
deliadhow i can solve this22:01
