[07:46] Good morning. [07:46] morning [07:47] Hey EriC^^ [07:47] how's it going? [07:49] Still a bit sleepy, hope coffee will fix that. How are you doing? [07:50] I know the feeling :) [07:50] im good [07:52] waves [07:52] hey ObrienDave [07:52] how's it going, all? [07:54] I've been suffering the horrors of DOS, with 1 floppy drive and swapping between 2 diskettes... how did we ever get anything done like that? [07:54] slowly ;P [07:54] i rolled my ankle yesterday, it's the size of a tennis ball :> [07:56] Good reason for a lie-in [07:57] geez louise, always has to be one jerk in the room [07:59] EriC^^: :) [07:59] Though the ankle thing is less. [07:59] ObrienDave: o/ [07:59] Hey TJ-, how are you? [08:00] Ready for bed, tired, fed-up with incompetent engineers :) [08:00] lordievader, o/ [08:01] TJ-: Isn't that your default state? [08:02] Fortunately no else I'd be a serial killer :D [08:02] Hehe [08:03] Got up early especially to test a new firmware for the Super Talent Core Store Plus pcie SSD, for the Asmedia 106x controller that has a BIOS hang at boot problem. That didn't fix anything [08:03] Darn, those are the most annoying. [08:04] Yeah, you'd think they'd provide a debug image that writes out what it is doing so we could at least narrow down where the fault is [08:04] we need an OP in #u [08:05] #ubuntu doesn't have an op? That is a channel who needs it the most... [08:05] And on top of that ... I've had a tower network switch-able Server Technology CDU that controls power to one of the data cabinets fail over the weekend, which controls 32 outlets, so I'm scrambling to get it fixed/replaced. I've done some detailed analysis of the faulty Power Control PCB using a logic analyser and reported the results to the manufacturer's support engineer... who then suggests I buy a replacement network interface/management engine PCB ... [08:05] which works fine! I sent an acerbic reply asking what good replacing the working PCB would do [08:05] Fancy swapping my life for yours? :) [08:06] Ahem... How do I put this politely... No. [08:06] :P [08:07] I fixed ipv6 support in a print registration program yesterday. A couple of lines was all it took :D [08:08] Ahhhh, the good life - I can only dream of having access to the source code :) [08:08] ObrienDave: nice one ;) [08:14] Hihi, ObrienDave is on an insulting tour... reminds me of HHGTG. [08:15] yea, sorry, i can't understand why someone would respond to someone with an obviously asinine nick like that. [08:16] ;) [08:16] You did get him to change his nick :) [08:16] step one ;P [08:16] tra la la boom dee ah [08:17] exactly, just hiding [08:17] the teacher passed away, [08:17] there is no school today [08:18] tra la la boom dee ah [08:18] ;P [08:18] rofl [08:18] oh boy, talk about 3rd grade humor. sheesh ;P [08:19] I'm not even geeked, see this is what going straight does for yah [08:19] yea, sometime i wish i had not gone straight 10 years ago ;P [08:20] just momentarily for the day here === quaddex- is now known as quaddex [08:21] moar beer ;P [08:23] I've switched to the vapor nicotine for other addictions treatment, I feel so cool "it's what all the cool people are doing" said by a user failing at source code installs [08:23] earlier [08:24] I asked them why are you installing source code, this would be in my forum if I was a member of any [13:51] EriC^^: o/ [13:51] o/ [13:51] 10 mins until the xbox event at gamescom in Germany :O [13:52] what event? [13:53] like, Microsoft's press briefing [13:53] showing upcoming games etc [13:53] argh 7 mins left [13:53] i'm gonna get down the coffee shop first :D [13:53] oh ok [13:53] cool :D [13:54] here's an example of the future, windows 10 on my laptop streaming the xbox one [13:54] https://www.dropbox.com/s/3hijnaaz755vwgk/IMG_20150803_200926.jpg?dl=0 [13:54] now i can see game patches wherever i am! [13:55] nice [14:01] hate to break it to skinux, but his pen testing career isn't off to a great start since he can't install the software [14:01] :> [14:03] lol [14:03] :D [14:32] OerHeks: :D [14:32] uh oh, am i banned? [14:32] !phrasing! [15:14] i'll probably download win10 today [15:14] ah-har [15:14] using their handy downloader? [15:14] yeah [15:14] did you download the .iso? [15:15] yep, i grabbed the UK flavour of Pro 64-bit for my boxes :) [15:15] does it even provide an .iso? I thought it just ran a hot update [15:15] both [15:15] cfhowlett: well WU provides it, but for those in the know it makes more sense to just download it [15:15] do you just make a fat32 and copy the files there? [15:15] if your hardware is EFI capable, yep [15:16] cool [15:16] the program can make the flash drive for you if you want though [15:16] oh [15:16] but i wanted the ISO so i can do several methods [15:16] yeah [15:16] i usually wipe my drive then use diskpart to make the partition active, then use bootsect /nt60 X: to write the boot image - before pasting the files [15:16] but i'm an awkward bugger... [15:17] i think i'll try that [15:18] it'll be a fun experience can't wait [15:18] i'm especially excited about it breaking grub [15:19] lol [15:19] it'll be interesting [15:19] yeah [15:19] i think win10 is going to rock though [15:19] looked awesome in the screenshots [15:19] it's definitely got a lot of things you need to turn off mind [15:19] win8 has sucked for me, didn't try win8.1 [15:20] you didn't miss much :) [15:20] since installing ubuntu i've maybe used windows for an hour tops [15:20] i regretted ever touching any form of 8 [15:20] like default feature allows WU to upload to other people online, stealing your bandwidth [15:20] win8 sucked, win98se is my favorite os probably [15:20] go go vxd's! [15:20] still on 7 here. [15:21] i missed 7 [15:21] never used it, had vista and it was pretty slow [15:21] then i got this laptop with win8 [15:21] I never had vista... [15:22] it's pretty slow and hangs a lot [15:22] mmm Vista was terrible on resources, only had it for clients or peoples systems i had to fix [15:22] when i think vista, i remember that blue/green turning thingy [15:22] the busy prompt [15:22] 10 seems even lighter than 7 [15:22] cool [15:23] but yeah plenty of tinfoiler articles in the news [15:23] it's fud i think [15:24] it's just technology and stuff, advertising etc. [15:24] i think it kind of sucks that it's there by default though [15:24] i mean turned on by default [15:24] yeah definitely not ideal [15:24] there's way too much to turn off [15:25] i should find a way to automate it so i don't have to take days on clean installs :> [15:25] though i'm in no hurry to have it in for any clients yet, too early [15:25] yeah :D [15:26] i am sure someone is writing windows-10-tweak now [15:26] yeah :> [15:26] hrmm i woke up to my laptop having hibernated actually, bit confused [15:27] i've got all the silly power management off, but still it went off [15:27] total mystery [15:33] not as much of a mystery as this user in #ubuntu though [15:33] ;] [15:42] lol [15:42] what an absolute... [15:42] man this one HAS to be reposted on "tales from tech support" [15:43] :) [15:43] that a site? [15:43] subreddit [15:45] ah [15:45] so is it official then? no wifi icon when the usb isn't plugged in? [15:46] he's in a net cafe then with wired plugged in [15:46] it's probably just that the icon looks like the wired ethernet one whilst that's in, dunno with this guy [15:46] ahhhhhhhhhh, right [15:46] still running 12.04 too :/ [16:29] Expect some major Wiley headaches over the next week, if people try to upgrade packages. GCC 5.0 compiler suite and libraries were just deployed and the archive state going to be inconsistent whilst broken packages catch up [16:30] Recommendation is to *not* do any package upgrades for the next week or so. [16:33] ahhar, [16:33] ah well i'll use the standard approach of "go to #ubuntu+1 " :D [19:53] LoL, Einstein and Hawking outscored by 12 year old girl from Essex [19:54] wat [19:54] http://www.rt.com/uk/311563-girl-12-mensa-iq/ [19:54] wow, gypsy too [19:55] but then my mate is from gypsy family and is doing a nuclear physics PhD [19:58] oh sure, i believe some boy or girl will change the linux kernel by some bits and make it 2x faster [20:00] heh, I like the young man still less than 20, who built his own reactor, and has an excellent design for safe nuclear power. [20:01] built at 14 years old I believe [20:01] wileee: apologies for yesterday or whenever it was by the way, i didn't mean to be awkward :) [20:02] daftykins, Sorry here as well I do go overboard, my apology to everyone. ;) [20:02] :) [20:03] We all want to help, I'm certainly limited as a armchair user, so try to keep out of the way of real help. [20:19] At least we are trying, guys [20:24] I'm just to lazy to remember all the basic search and confirm commands from the cli, I know the basic structure, just not pro in the industry, or a student. Thinking of doing a Masters in this area if I can get a free ride. [20:28] I'm just lazy [20:48] :D [20:49] https://www.dropbox.com/sh/3m9han66px7uz92/AABUyEcXPt3HUlFyq7DiYdwWa?dl=0 [20:49] hrmm new tire on [20:56] !cookie | daftykins [20:56] daftykins: Wow! You're such a great helper, you deserve a cookie! [20:57] XD [20:57] i've recently wondered if one can feed ubottu with a cookie for so many years of faithful factoid service [20:59] ^ Hummm.... Try it and see ?? [20:59] why not :D [21:07] heh, my favorite and only transportation. [21:13] i'm 47 and it is still my only way of transportation. [21:14] i'm riding my 26th bicycle now
