[03:10] Hi, i have a very strange problem in my ubuntu server [03:11] after testing some mysqldump codes [03:11] mysql stopped working [03:12] so i restarted the server and i got the following error: Serious errors were found while checking the disk for / [03:13] uhoh [03:23] Hi [03:23] How to know what disk space is left? [03:24] df -h [03:24] hm. its 14% userd. I wonder why I am getting this http://pastie.org/10336602 [03:25] error number 12 is out of memory [03:27] hm [03:27] will adding swap space help? [03:27] how much physical memory does the machine have [03:29] 1g [03:29] ubuntu amazon ec2 server [03:34] man, amazon ec2 systems have such slow block storage, unless you've sprung for an ssd, that doubling the ram would probably make a bigger improvement than adding more swap [03:35] it's hard to tell from one error message if you're out of physical memory or if you've just gone beyond what linux will let you overcommit -- it's quite possible that adding swap wouldn't help at all, if the kernel's datastructures require too much memory === trick is now known as trickzero [04:34] <_N1X_> ubuntu server failed to write bootloader in /dev/sda , HP z840 workstation with Integrated LSI SAS 2308 Controller [05:12] sarnold, thanks [05:12] mybalzitch, thanks [05:13] adding swap helped momentarily though === Voyage_ is now known as Voyage === markthomas|away is now known as markthomas === Lcawte|Away is now known as Lcawte === Voyage_ is now known as Voyage === Voyage_ is now known as Voyage === Voyage_ is now known as Voyage === Voyage_ is now known as Voyage [11:19] im looking for effective and fast remote backup solutions for 1-2TB of data (small files) with easy restorability and non-duplicated storage. Any suggestions? [11:20] I tried attic but it seems to be really slow with the amount of data I have [11:29] compress or just tar those small files, one large file is faster, independent from what method you use [11:31] a tar would be impossible to handle when restoring something [11:33] OerHeks If i have my backups I want to be able to restore a small file from them in just seconds.
