=== dreamon_ is now known as dreamon === petersaints_ is now known as petersaints [08:36] hello all [08:36] hello [08:37] having a weird problem.. [08:37] should i explain? [08:37] glitchd, no [08:37] let the telepaths handle it [08:37] cfhowlett, ok thx..u can go now. [08:37] !details [08:37] Please elaborate; your question or issue may not seem clear or detailed enough for people to help you. Please give more detailed information, errors, steps, and possibly configuration files (use the !pastebin to avoid flooding the channel) [08:38] yea i get that, wasnt going to ask if there were just assholes in here that were gonna respond with the same shit you just did. [08:38] so cfhowlett, u can take your leave now. [08:39] glitchd, please watch the language as this is a family-friendly channel. [08:39] glitchd, also, please watch the attitude as everybody here is a volunteer. [08:40] knome, share your advice to cfhowlett. [08:40] now back to my little problem. [08:40] knome, to be fair, my response was unneccessarily snarky. apologies to glitchd and everyone else. still: I did NOT use profanity or insults. anyway: not leaving. let's move on [08:40] agreed. [08:41] i apologize for the profanity. [08:41] im running xubuntu 15.04, i use a script to kill/turn off the monitor. [08:42] when i activate then disable to script to wake th screen up, my dm dies and another one takes over and i have to log out or kill x to get back to my original dm. [08:42] im trying to figure out why this happens, and how to stop or fix it [08:43] so... you have created a script that is basically a screensaver, but it doesn't work [08:43] here is the script that i use attached to a keyboard shortcut [08:43] http://pastebin.com/TGwN0qRZ [08:44] i didnt have this problem in previous ubuntu/xubuntu editions [08:44] why don't you use a real screensaver? [08:45] the power management doesnt work well enough to rely on it, so i had to find another way, also i wanted a way to activate it by a shortcut. also the script behaves in a certain way that am more inclined to [08:46] i believe this installation is ubuntu 15.04 with xfce(xubuntu desktop) added to it [08:46] so its not straight xubuntu 15.04 [08:47] it happens randomly that it kills the desktop manager and returns me to a different dm [08:48] if someone could look at the script and tell me if u see anything in there that would maybe cause this, i would appreciate it. [08:48] ive searched and searched for an answer and never found one, now im here. [09:00] is there any other information i can provide to possibly help find the answer? [09:08] anyone? [09:08] In addition to this script, do you have light-locker or whatever Ubuntu uses installed and enabled? [09:11] Unit193, im not sure.. [09:11] *yes it is installed [09:12] let me rephrase the question [09:13] is there anything that would cause dpms to switch de's when i power off the screen? [09:16] thx anyways.. [11:37] s.a [12:00] how do i get xubuntu desktop to a solid black colour? [12:01] first time user and the first thing i need to do i cant [12:01] pictures etc ae distracting [12:01] anyone help on a sunday orning :) [12:02] i suppose i could take a black picture? [12:03] xfdesktop-settings → Solid Color [12:04] in terminal? [12:05] i tried the desktop settings [12:05] Well, there's a button in the settings manager, but yeah that too. [12:05] chose to black solid colours [12:05] then chose solid colour [12:06] then closed the window [12:06] nothing changed [12:07] You have to select Style: None [12:08] AHHHHHHH [12:08] ty [12:08] Sure thing. [12:08] you have made my sunday morning [12:08] now i can go shower and get on with my day :D [12:08] \o/ [12:09] i think i ma like xubuntu [12:09] I do. :P [12:10] well i have been stick with winblows so many years and been spoon fed its hard to change imo === azeam_afk is now known as azeam [16:00] hi i need a basic finance package - have tried homebank but it does not do yuan [16:00] i need yuan and gbp [16:01] makem, ask the chinese channels or ubuntukylin [16:01] !cn | makem [16:01] makem: 如欲獲得中文的協助,請輸入 /join #ubuntu-cn 或 /join #ubuntu-tw [16:01] !kylin | makem [16:01] makem: Ubuntu Kylin is a variant of Ubuntu that focuses on Chinese users. It is a formal part of Ubuntu. For more information, see http://www.ubuntu.com/desktop/ubuntukylin [16:01] im not chinese lol [16:01] but my wife is and i deal with all finances [16:02] so i need uk package with foreign currency [16:02] i use ms money atm [16:03] makem, ubuntu software center: search term: finance [16:03] k [16:04] veryy annoying as i was getting on so well with homebank [16:04] multiple currencies is a must imo [16:05] gnucash maybe work for you [16:05] i do like this xubuntu tho :D [16:05] aye i heard of that one [16:06] must research more before using [16:06] http://www.gnucash.org/docs/v2.4/C/gnucash-guide/index.html [16:06] cheers [16:07] looks abit ott on the face of it but will see [16:08] probably is if you want something simple [16:08] i could still use it if nothing else [16:09] i tried kmymoney a while ago [16:10] as cfhowlett said - search in usc - there are a few there [16:10] it worked but seemed a bit cluncky [16:10] yeah have done [16:11] makem, try USC "accounting" for different options [16:12] wxbanker does not get updates - that is not good? [16:13] Grisbi is a personal accounting program. Grisbi can handle multiple accounts, currencies and users. [16:13] have u used it [16:13] nope. [16:13] k [16:14] read the reviews for MS Money comparison [16:14] where? [16:14] sorry to be such a newbie lol [16:14] USC grisbi [16:14] ah.......am doing that with all [16:16] seems the 'does not provide updates' is common so maybe not consider that [16:18] http://askubuntu.com/questions/6055/what-does-this-canonical-does-not-provide-updates-mean-in-my-package-manage [16:19] that should help you work out what that update statement means [16:20] ok but i am going with eqonomise atm [16:20] where you finding that? [16:21] USC [16:21] nvm [16:21] hah [16:22] seems to have what ms money has [16:22] just so long as you realise that you'll be installing bunches of kde libs with it [16:22] i dont use it online so no security there [16:22] is that not good? [16:23] i shd think most banking would need lot of libs [16:23] I've used kde things in not kde distros before - just making you aware is all [16:23] ah [16:23] i thought what i found in USC when using xbuntu was sutable [16:24] so what is this distro? [16:26] i dont understand hde v xubuntu [16:26] makem, all programs in USC are distro agnostic. they MIGHT need pieces of different desktop environments. [16:26] !flavors [16:26] !Ubuntu-GNOME, !Kubuntu, !Xubuntu and !Lubuntu are simply flavors of Ubuntu that come with GNOME, KDE, Xfce, and LXDE (respectively) installed as default, instead of Unity. Other specialized flavors of Ubuntu include !Edubuntu, Ubuntu !Studio, and !Mythbuntu. [16:27] so xubuntu is Xfc [16:28] does that mean i shd search for Xfc packages first and if none suitable look elsewhere [16:28] Xfce [16:28] makem: GTK+ ones. [16:28] makem, no. ubuntu packages are ubuntu packages. [16:28] ok [16:29] any USC package is capable of running on any ubuntu !flavor [16:29] makem: http://askubuntu.com/questions/249150/what-is-kde-gtk-gtk-qt-and-or-gnome [16:29] back to eqonomise [16:29] will check out the urls ty [17:23] bonjour [17:23] !fr | xubuntu183 [17:23] xubuntu183: Nous sommes desoles mais ce canal est en anglais uniquement. [17:23] j'aurais besoin d'aide [17:51] grisi looked ok but now i find it does not give total woth as it keeps gbp and rmb sepaate [17:51] separate [20:08] bonjour [20:09] hello. === therealnanotube is now known as nanotube [21:37] two questions please [21:38] 1. is there a package similar to the ms 'start programs'? [21:38] makem: lots of start menus and launchers.. [21:39] 2. i need to encrypt two files and decrypt /encrypt with right click [21:39] is there such a package? [21:39] xubuntu comes with whisker menu [21:39] ty i didnt see that in the list [21:40] so must e install [21:41] makem: No, Whisker Menu is installed as the default menu system [21:42] by default menu system you mean the favs, recently used etc list? [21:43] Yes...click on the mouse icon in the upper left corner and the menu that results is the Whicker menu. [21:43] now i knows its name :) [21:44] right mouse click on it and it shows you the name :) [21:44] lol trust me not to ty that [21:45] so much to learn after ms [21:46] Yes there is, but it's not illogical...take it one step at a time and don't try to learn it all at once...and one day you'll be answering questions here :) [21:46] yes i appreciate that [21:46] but i need to quickly get the basic things i use set up so i can dump windows [21:47] ive found xubuntu best so far and easiest to understand === xangua1 is now known as xangua
