I have dual boot on Juanitas machine [07:33] sister was without data here for 3 months so went telkom [07:34] It has, it connected fine previously [07:34] only since I installed ubntu [07:34] oh wit [07:34] wait [07:34] dongle is fine, skype does not see it [07:35] install modem-manager-gui [07:35] cli or synaptic? [07:37] doing synaptic [07:43] thats god because i might have something wrong [07:43] ood [07:43] good [07:44] I instaled package, updated, restarted, no change - does not see the dongle [07:58] Kilos-, you there? [07:58] I have put question to Skype community, hope they reply some time soon! [08:01] yessir [08:01] lets hope [08:01] oh my [08:01] what dongle [08:02] ? [08:02] vodacom mobile connect [08:17] Good morning linda_ and Kilos- [08:17] hi GnikLlort [08:18] linda_ you need the modprobe command [08:18] i dont remember it but starts sudo modprobe /usb/i thnk [08:19] Thks GnikLlort [08:19] and Kilos- [08:19] also linda_ gogle 14.04 doesnt see modem type [08:20] you will find lots [08:25] Its not Ubuntu prob, its Skype. Ubuntu connects fne [08:26] fine [08:27] morning inetpro Kilos barrydk and all others [08:27] hi pieter2627 [08:27] morning pieter2627 [08:29] Modprobe? Its not a Linux problem its Skype setup gone awry [08:35] gmorn GnikLlort sorry so late reply [08:35] np :) [08:35] hi pieter2627 [08:36] hi linda_, new to our channel [08:38] hi pieter2627 dis langjan on lindas lapie sorting out some issues [08:39] oh, hallo oom langjan [08:40] hi pieter2627 [08:40] pieter2627 please help him to get 14.04 to see a stupid voda dongle [08:41] Just added a useless command to my bot lmfao [08:41] lol [08:42] hmm, its been awhile since i had to fiddle with those things but let's see. what happens currently? [08:46] 14.04 sees the dongle, its connected. Skype connected via my hotspot now it only wants to connect via hotspot, how do I get skype to see the dongle? [08:47] skype connected to hotspot??? [08:47] skype will use the OS's connection - cannot see how one will set it to use a specific one [08:58] the OS connects via my adsl and wifi when its here, it connects via Linda's Vodacom mobile when she has it, but then Skype does not see the connecton and keeps seeking the adsl where it originally installed. [08:59] Its kidergarten stuff but for some crazy reason thats what Skype is doing (or not doing) [09:00] i would purge skype, wipe the .skype in home hidden files [09:00] then reinstall with dongle connected [09:01] lemme see what in conf [09:01] .Skype [09:02] get the dongle online first with irc [09:02] maybe turn off wifi for a while till setup [09:02] wbb [09:03] if you close and open skype after changing internet connections does it still not work? [09:03] no [09:03] I have tried all tose options [09:04] Looks like I will have to purge and reinstall Skype - crazy! [09:08] I doubt that will do anything, it doesn't really sound like something skype controls, I mean skype jsut sends packets its the OS that decides where they go, its probably just bad routing [09:09] http://aleksz-programming.blogspot.com/2013/01/using-wifi-and-network-cable-at-same.html < something like that might help, it's obviously not entirely the same but the same principals apply [09:16] Too complicated for the oldies, I think ill just remove Skype and reinstall away from my system [09:17] morning peeps [09:17] * thatgraemeguy looks.... yup, still morning [09:19] hi thatgraemeguy [09:19] bye guys [09:27] am also thinking along the lines MaNI has pointed out [09:46] hi thatgraemeguy === Kilos- is now known as Kilos [09:54] Kilos, how do I purge Skype completely? It keeps on remembering its settings [09:55] linda_ [09:55] in home tick view i think [09:55] the show hidden [09:56] then you will see .Skype [09:56] trash that [09:56] are you online with the modem now [09:56] linda_: remove ~/.Skype and ~/.config/Skype [09:56] or rename [09:56] ty thatgraemeguy [09:57] yes online at lindas [10:03] Ok its working thks guys [10:04] Linda is quite happy with the Unity interface and says all her pages are opening quicker and easier now, now its just the emails [10:05] 'Bye chaps, have a lovely day [11:50] Good Afternoon [12:23] hi magespawn [12:47] hey Kilos [12:47] whats up? [15:21] so stupid/evil that a bought and paid for programme deactivates itself [15:22] it should be, how many computers is that licence key used on? [15:23] i have no idea, but think its just this one [15:23] old lady , friend of sisters [15:24] should be fine [15:24] was it reinstalled at some point? [15:24] either the os or the office? [15:24] but online info says it will deactivate again. no i think original insta [15:25] many peeps with same prob http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/office/forum/officeversion_other-office_install/office-2010-cannot-verify-license-error-message/62ad5890-4e71-4bc1-829e-d6252af61fcb?auth=1 [15:26] im trying to get into the program with cli [15:27] found some commands but they must be run in the program itself [15:27] sigh [15:29] cli of office?\ [15:30] command prompt sorry [15:30] i used to talking linux [15:30] i think i need to cd to the office program then run the command [15:39] anyone gonna be at iweek? [15:51] no Symmetria, did not even know about it [15:56] Hi inetpro , will you please let me know when you have time to have another bash at Thunderbird? [15:56] wb Langjan [15:56] is that all still now? [16:02] iweek capetown 7th of November for the whole week [16:02] at Spier [16:04] well, i tell you what, if i am in cape town i will make a turn [16:04] Kilos: run the command in the office directory? [16:05] yeah im just trying to find the path magespawn [16:05] Yes Kilos the only thing to do is the e-mails [16:05] c:/program files [16:05] lekker Langjan [16:06] cant you manually add all the info [16:06] Ja, hoop net ons kan hulle regkry [16:06] Dont know [16:06] can you? [16:06] ai! [16:07] Via import/export tools? [16:07] what win Kilos? [16:07] when i first installed thunderbird i manually entered my first address [16:07] xp magespawn [16:08] in program files is office then about 4 in there [16:08] well linda has 1,4 GB of mails that she would like to keep and access, plus her address book [16:08] whew [16:08] arent those mails still on the server Langjan ? [16:09] i have many gigs lying at gmail [16:09] there is usually a folder called OFFICEXX where XX is a number according to the version you have installed [16:09] dont know, she is using Vodamail [16:09] so you steup the accounts manually then go to the site and mark as unread and it will fetch them [16:09] oh my [16:10] lemme look magespawn [16:11] whew in there are office 10 12 and 14 [16:11] sigh [16:12] i cant even cd to office [16:13] Program Files i mean [16:13] nm we cany talk that stuff here [16:16] Kilos, voda gives 3 GB free email so she should be ok but does not know her email password, will probably go that route if we dont come right soon [16:17] oi [16:17] maybe fone them for password reset [16:26] you should be able to reset the password through the vodacom website if you have the sim card phone number [16:27] which office are you using Kilos ? [16:27] 2010 magespawn [16:27] i think that is 14 but you should be able to google that [17:02] ty magespawn i gotta go eat [17:07] np Kilos [17:32] hi kab [17:32] oh hi kapanda \ [17:32] welcome to ubuntu-za [17:36] hi [17:40] hey Kilos [17:40] back [17:41] hi magespawn im trying to get the thing to connect to the net [17:41] sigh [17:42] i love ubuntu [17:42] stupid xp cant even find a wired connection [17:45] what is it wired to? [17:46] to my pc direct now and was through switch before [17:47] Kilos, I'd keep it connected to the switch rather [17:47] ill go back to that ty [17:48] i should just tell the auntie there office wants to activet only so go do it by you [17:48] activate [17:48] otherwise you need to share your connection, creating a new DHCP server (Entire new network in other words) [17:49] my pc is set to share the connection [17:50] but via it's internet connection (I.E. it creates a temp network from a Direct connection to INET) not via a switch or router (It becomes the router) [17:50] so then just set the xp machine to a statis ip in that range and yo should be good [17:50] ok ty lemme try [17:50] actually [17:51] s/statis/static [17:51] lappy connects fine with cable to switch [17:51] and via wifi [17:51] ill have to investigate xp side [17:52] i go look in control panel [17:52] Kilos: how is the laptops networking setup? [17:52] dhcp or static? [17:52] only tried with ubuntu and kubuntu not with 7 yet [17:52] lemme go see [17:54] nono too much work, not happy head day [17:54] more is nog n dag [17:55] lappy connect easy with wired [17:55] wireless i had to tell it to my shred connection [17:55] shared [18:00] maybe that eth port is bust [18:01] switch doesnt show connection [18:05] check the cable too if you can [18:05] i in and outed it a few times now switch shows connected [18:06] good evening [18:06] Langjan: are you here? [18:06] hi inetpro [18:06] hi inetpro [18:06] sorry for stepping in late [18:07] np [18:07] have you got any further yet? [18:07] no inetpro [18:07] do you know all her mail settings? [18:08] no, will haveto get froom Vodacom [18:08] hmm... she using a Vodacom address? [18:08] yes [18:08] they provide 3GB [18:09] bad idea, but let's just stick to that for now [18:09] Langjan is she has vodamail on cell she can go there and do the forgot password bit [18:11] Langjan: can you please do the following for me on linda's laptop on the cli [18:11] $ find .thunderbird/ -ls | pastebinit -a Langjan [18:11] obviously without the '$ ' in front [18:12] I have to fetch the lappie, give me 10 minutes pse [18:12] no problem [18:22] wb linda\ [18:22] pastebin: command not found [18:22] thks Kilos [18:23] find .thunderbird/ -ls | pastebinit -a Langjan [18:23] sorry its init [18:23] that didnt find pstebin [18:23] copy paste [18:24] find .thunderbird/ -ls | pastebinit -a Langjan [18:24] i think so [18:25] doesnt copy and paste for some reason [18:25] ai! [18:28] ugliest linda ive ever seen [18:28] wow... quite a few sub folders under Mail [18:28] goway [18:29] ohi superfly [18:29] hello superfly [18:29] tumbleweed happy birthday to you [18:29] hope you had a good one [18:30] did you see outcome inetpro ? [18:31] linda: ok, here's what I'm thinking [18:31] can you please start thunderbird with the default profile and set up her mail account from scratch [18:31] then once that is done we move the files in the Mail folder to the newly created profile [18:32] linda: yes [18:32] in other words, start with thunderbird -p [18:32] ok but to do that I will have to sit with her on Vodacom website to get her settings first [18:33] hmm... guess you'll have to do that [18:33] maybe just one important point before you go [18:33] I have some settings here, will try and get back tou you if I come right, otherwise tomorrow evening? [18:33] when you set up her account, don't let Thunderbird download the mails [18:34] ok shoot [18:34] right [18:34] only set it to download mails as soon as we have restored her old stuff [18:35] will it not automatically start downloading when connect is successful? [18:36] press Escape as soon as possible when it starts doing that [18:36] OK will do thks, have a good evening guys, hope to chat again soon [18:36] in fact [18:37] yes inetpro [18:37] ? [18:37] you can set 'Work offline' when you start with thunderbird -p [18:37] ok must I start with thunderbird -p in cli? [18:37] yes [18:38] fine, thks [18:39] hmm... [18:39] superfly: thanks [18:39] tumbleweed: \o/ Happy Birthday!!! [18:41] Langjan: I see she actually had multiple profiles or accounts [18:41] if you look in the Mail folder you will see what I mean [18:42] like pop3.vodamail.co-2.za and pop3.vodamail.co.za and mail.vodamail.co.za and pop3.vodamail.co-1.za [18:43] oh and pop3.vodamail.co-4.za [18:44] difficult to tell from the datestamp which one was the last one in use but I'm guessing it would be pop3.vodamail.co-4.za [18:48] oh and it looks like she never used the addressbook as well, so by the looks of it we just need to restore her old messages [18:54] night all. sleep tight [18:54] good luck [19:00] back [19:25] bed time, good night all [19:47] everning all.. long time [20:01] wb captine [20:11] thnx [20:11] how things [20:32] captine: always good thanks, just busy as always [20:33] even if I hate saying that word 'busy' [20:33] and there? [20:41] Does anybody do data science work here? [20:52] kulelu88: what's the diffs between data science and statistics? [20:52] not that I do either [20:52] keyword-speak mostly. [20:52] and tooling [20:52] statisticians still stick to their excel or archaic tools sometimes [20:53] oh my [20:53] shame [20:55] * inetpro calls it a day [20:55] good night everyone
