wxlMarzius: still in development. expect it for 16.1000:00
Marziusoh wow00:00
wxlwell there are a lot of changes that need to happen, outside of just changing the libraries we're using00:00
wxlfor example, we need to decide on apps that use qt and not gtk00:01
wxlnot to mention rewriting apps that we have (lubuntu software center) in qt00:01
wxlwe'll probably have it ready in time for 16.04, but i, for one, do not want to include new features in an LTS00:01
Marziusno worries I was just hyped00:01
wxlheheh00:01
wxlwell if you're ambitious you can play with it00:01
wxlthe testing wiki includes instructions to use the ppa and there's also a "lubuntu next" iso that is hosted by the boss00:02
Marziustrue, but it's not 64-bit00:02
wxlwell 64 bit cpus can handle a 32 bit kernel :)00:03
MarziusI need the memory :v00:03
wxldude, you're running lubuntu. what do yo uneed it for? compiz? XD00:03
Marziussome virtualbox instances00:04
wxlis it not pae?00:04
Marziusit is, everything is since like 199400:04
wxlright so you should be good to go00:04

tsimonq2How long does it take to do an install of Lubuntu(graphical and alternate respectively)?03:34
tsimonq2I am going to leave(away), so the answer is not urgent, but if someone could just ping me with an answer, I will read it tomorrow around 8AM Central Time...03:35
pleia2that's completely dependent upon your hardware and install mechanism (usb or disc), but graphical vs. alternate should make very little difference03:35
tsimonq2Thanks!03:35
tsimonq2Well I am still here :P03:36
tsimonq2Ok thank you pleia203:36
pleia2sorry I can't be more specific :)03:36
tsimonq2Can you be specific if I said it was in a VM?03:36
tsimonq2With 1 core and 2GB of RAM?03:36
tsimonq2pleia2:03:36
tsimonq2Whatever03:37
pleia2unfortunately I haven't done a lubuntu install lately (the systems I have were upgraded a few times, not fresh installs lately)03:37
tsimonq2It doesn't matter03:37
tsimonq2Yeah, I originally installed 14.04.2 on this thing and now I am running wily03:37
tsimonq2Have a good night03:38
pleia2you too03:38
tsimonq2 /away03:38
tsimonq2dang it03:38
tsimonq2sorry03:38
tsimonq2by03:38
tsimonq2*bye03:38
ianorlintsimonq2: actually sometimes in practice alternate takes longer because I fail to press ok at the enter http proxy information06:10
pleia2ianorlin: haha06:10
ianorlinIt also depends on the speed of the disk you write to06:11
ianorlinas in I have started an install later on a solid state drive in a virtual machine that ended up finishing earlier than the one I started that I was using a spinning hard drive for the back end06:12
ianorlinalthough virtual machines without hardware acceleratoin support tend to peg the cpu to 100 percent and go really slow06:12
tsimonq2What, do you want me to give you my specs for my new computer and exactly how I am going to run the VMs?14:28
tsimonq2XD14:28
tsimonq2ianorlin14:28
holsteintsimonq2: i was reading the scroll back.. what is the question?14:31
holsteinyou are installing 15.10 in vm?14:31
holsteinyou are asking, how long does an installation take? i find, depending on resources, anywhere from around 6 minutes to 3014:32
holsteinlots of variables.. even on the host machine, if you are installing as a guest..14:32
tsimonq2holstein: Not even if I told you that my host machine is going to have the AMD FX-6300 6-core 3.5GHz Socket AM3+ 93W Processor with 8GB of DDR3 1600 RAM? And that my guest machine will each have one core and 2 \GB of RAM?14:54
holsteintsimonq2: correct.. not even then would anyone really be able to reliably answer the question of how long it wil take you to precisely install.. try it and see15:00
holsteinyou may find, depending on load on the host, even with your precise environment, 2 installation times may vary a bit..15:01
holsteinbut, you dont *need* to install multiple instances.. to save time, you can clone, copy.. or, use snapshots..15:01
tsimonq2I want to do ISO QA...15:29
eipi10can you see where in lightdm-gtk-greeter.conf from http://netgator.blogspot.com/2012/09/change-login-background-in-lubuntu-lxde.html the image is instructed to 'stretch' to fill the monitor?15:51
eipi10or could I eliminate a background image all together?15:54
holsteinif you want.. or, not have a greeter..or, no x.. or, another desktop environment.. or...15:55
eipi10well that's it. I was just afraid to erase that line, but that's all I need to do? ...cut the "background=xxx.jpeg" line and save?15:58
eipi10holstein?16:02
eipi10anyone familiar with the gtk-greeter.conf file?16:06
holsteinin any case like that, i would just make sure i know how to revert. and make a good backup, and i would research the documents a bit, and just try it16:10
holsteinworst case, i reboot, and the greeter is broken.. then i can forcefully revert16:10
yhjhey all, have a problem with hibernation in lubuntu 15.04, my laptop hibernates but does not power off.16:14
holsteinyhj: your laptop hibenates? but, when you try to shut the power off, in some way, it doesnt? what happens? and in what conditions?16:21
yhjwhen i select hibernate it hibernates but does not power down the laptop afterwards so i have to do it manually. when i reboot it resumes fine16:23
holsteinyhj: i would try hibernate command via terminal, and see if you get any errors.. and, see what is hanging, where, and how..16:27
holsteinwhen i select "restart" the machine here hangs.. i havent had time to troubleshoot it..16:28
yhjholstein: tried pm-hibernate in terminal, but it still does not poweroff. It hibernates correctly but doesn't poweroff16:29
yhjholstein: shutdown and restart work perfectly16:30
holsteinyhj: i understand, and you can look at the error messages,if there are any, and share them in #ubuntu, for example.. or look for a bug report, and create one, if there is none16:30
holstein!bug16:30
ubottuIf you find a bug in Ubuntu or any of its derivatives, please file a bug using the command « ubuntu-bug <package> » - See https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs for other ways to report bugs.16:30
holsteini havent even tried hibernate, on this hardware, since, there are not benefits for it in my use case..16:30
yhjok16:30
ClippngHi, I'm trying to install Lubuntu on a 2006 Macbook Pro (white one) and regardless of my HDD size (which is more than enough), it's saying I do not have enough space17:24
ClippngAny ideas?17:24
wxlClippng: partition issue perhaps?18:01
wxlClippng: also what IS the HDD size?18:01
Clippng500gb18:01
wxlClippng: what about the partitions?18:02
Clippngwhat about them? sorry, new to gnu/linux18:03
wxlClippng: you trying to use the whole hard drive?18:03
Clippngyes18:03
wxlClippng: partitions, btw, are not a linux thing.18:03
wxlClippng: what iso are you using?18:04
Clippngunetbootin18:04
Clippngof18:04
ClippngLubuntu 32 bit18:04
Clippng15.0418:04
wxlClippng: oh. why don't you download the actual iso and then use unetbootin to write the usb?18:04
Clippngcant boot from USB18:05
Clippngdisk only atm18:05
wxlwell the use it for disk.18:05
Clippngi did18:05
wxlpoint is download the iso rather than relying on unetbootin to do it for you18:05
Clippngwxl, If the HDD is NFTS will it not work?19:50

M3G45C3PT1L3I need to run Lubuntu on a VM for a class23:51
wxlwhich vm M3G45C3PT1L3 ?23:51
M3G45C3PT1L3Would 1 GB RAM and 8 GB storage be enough for good performance?23:51
M3G45C3PT1L3VirtualBox23:51
wxloh yeah that's more than enough ram for sure23:52
wxlfor storage, that might be tight depending on what you're doing with it23:52
Unit193Just don't use a browser.23:52
wxlbut just dynamically allocate and you'll be fine23:52
M3G45C3PT1L3only standard programs for an OS class23:52
wxlcompiling M3G45C3PT1L3 ?23:52
M3G45C3PT1L3yes23:52
wxlUnit193: really? with 1gb? i've done it with 256 before and that's slow. 512 is ok as long as you're not doing facebook and such23:53
M3G45C3PT1L3so 1 GB is good right?23:53
wxlyeah i would say it would be fine23:53
M3G45C3PT1L3my computer has 8, so I thought 1 would be safe enough for a VM23:53
M3G45C3PT1L3cool23:53
M3G45C3PT1L3thanks23:53
wxlnp have fun :)23:53
M3G45C3PT1L3do you have some open source projects I can contribute to?23:54
wxlhow do you want to contribute M3G45C3PT1L3 ?23:54
M3G45C3PT1L3mostly software23:55
M3G45C3PT1L3bug fixes and such23:55
wxlM3G45C3PT1L3: so you want to provide code. in any particular language(s)?23:55
M3G45C3PT1L3Python23:55
wxlM3G45C3PT1L3: well there are plenty of packages on launchpad that use python. pastebinit is a nice one.23:56
M3G45C3PT1L3ok I'll look into those23:57
M3G45C3PT1L3thanks23:57
