JaguarDownHi all. Is there some kind of sleep or hibernate mode that ubuntu-server will go into that I can disable? For the second time now I was unable to connect to apache 2, ssh, or sftp and could not even ping from the the LAN or router. I have determined for the second time now that so much as hitting a single key (num lock) on a keyboard connected to the server tower is enough to "wake it up" and suddenly ping, apache2, ssh, and s01:45
JaguarDown(home server on an old machine)01:45
JaguarDownAll of my internet searchs return threads and articles talking about suspending or hibernating ubuntu desktop...02:08
patdk-lapubuntu server does not sleep/hibernate by default02:19
patdk-lapunless you ran a command to do so (like a ups program that detects power failure)02:20
pauljwJaguarDown, understand i'm in no way knowledgeable about such things and this is probably a "mr obvious" question, but does your lan card support "wake-on-lan" and is it set to function?02:29
moneylotionany way I can backup to an iso?02:56
moneylotionlike rsync to an iso file?02:56
patdk-lapsure, you just *copy* it03:18
patdk-lapor, you mean, you want to copy normal files, into an iso file?03:18
moneylotionyeah, having a single file would be nice03:21
moneylotion* copy into an iso file -03:21
moneylotioni use carbon copy cloner for mac a lot, and this is an option, which makes organization a little simpler03:22
moneylotionopen to any advice03:22

lordievaderGood morning.07:46
Norbinfor SSL to work on sites other than the default, do i need to create certificate for each ?10:12
lordievaderOr add it as a san.10:19
Norbinmissing the part where i added a 2nd virtual host (other than default) to the ssl10:28
Norbinlike do i edit default-ssl.conf or copy it into mysite-ssl.conf10:29
=== Lcawte is now known as Lcawte|Away
RoyKNorbin: a certificate per domain, usually - better get official certificates rather than using self-signed stuff10:56
RoyKit costs a bit, but it's the only thing accepted many places10:57
RoyKyou can get host certificates or domain wildcard certs - the latter more expensive, but then you can create new, official certs for your own hosts10:57
Kalimerois anyone familiar with the manual installation of Twonky-Server ?12:21
Kalimeroif i want to start twonkyserver i am getting an error like this -bash: /home/username/twonky/twonkystarter: No such file or directory12:29

Norbinhi guys, i have set up apache2 server, all is good but one thing - others outside my LAN can not establish connection to the site via my external IP13:29

pmatulisNorbin: first ascertain whether your server is receiving the requests. my suggestion: use tcpdump13:31
Norbinumm, i am not seeing much signs for failed attempts or anything, captured while a friend tried to access from outside13:39
Norbinan example here pmatulis http://pastebin.com/mFunJNBx13:39
pmatulisNorbin: you can try quieting it down with, assuming interface eth0: 'sudo tcpdump -i eth0 -qtn port 80'13:49
pmatulisNorbin: and you're sure it's port 80 and not 443 (HTTPS)?13:50
pmatulisNorbin: also, provide output to 'sudo lsof -nPi4:80'13:53
Norbinpmatulis thank you for the tips. i am still capturing14:00
Norbinsudo lsof -nPi4:80 outputs nothing14:01
Norbinnew empty line14:01
pmatulisNorbin: that means your server is not listening on port 8014:13
pmatulisNorbin: i'm using lighttpd as my web server and i get:14:14
pmatulislighttpd   2570        www-data    4u  IPv4   22859      0t0  TCP *:80 (LISTEN)14:14
=== markthomas|away is now known as markthomas
Norbinwhen u run sudo lsof -nPi4:443 ?14:15
Norbinops, with 8014:15
Norbini tried with 443 just in case14:15
Norbinno results there either14:15
pmatulisNorbin: next, what URL are you using when you claim to be connecting from the LAN?14:16
Norbinpmatulis, it works now!14:17
Norbingod damn :P14:17
NorbinIn my router14:17
Norbinwhen i forwarded port 8014:17
Norbini had to choose internal IP (which i provided my server ip address)14:17
Norbinand external (i entered my external ip...)14:18
Norbinnow i changed the external to 0.0.0.014:18
Norbinand it works14:18
* Norbin is not sure why though14:18
pmatulisNorbin: well, not sure how if the server isn't listening, but ok14:20
Norbinpmatulis not sure, but now the tcp dump is actually giving results via port 8014:26
Norbini can see the ip addresses of the people entering my apache page14:26
Norbinsudo lsof -nPi4:80 still gives empty result14:27

PryMar56booting Vivid, there is a 15s delay during /scripts/init-bottom18:28
PryMar56that directory is empty, so why the delay?18:29
PryMar56correction, there is one script: udev18:32
MeerkatPryMar56, is the scripts dir in the root of the system?18:34
PryMar56Meerkat, root of the initramfs?18:43
PryMar56Meerkat, I'm thinking to deactivate LVM in initramfs18:43
PryMar56Meerkat, yes the udev script is in root of ramfs: scripts/init-bottom/udev18:45
PryMar56Meerkat, I'm thinking to never activate LVM in initramfs18:46
PryMar56^^ what I mean to say18:46
PryMar56Meerkat, it worked. Skipped activation in ramfs and script/init-bottom flew by... finally.. couple weeks of pain19:06
=== markthomas is now known as markthomas|away
PryMar56Wily has changes in scripts/init-bottom coming20:04
PryMar56I did look at the scripts/init-bottom in Debian8 and they are not the same20:05
arsalan_ Hi guys! I would really appreciate it, if you could help me! I am working on a project that is similar to Shazam, I have a source code on a linux computer which gets a 10-second wav audio file and outputs the name of the song. So, everything works offline now. I was wondering how I can setup a server using ubuntu in order to support online recognition.22:24
OerHeksarsalan_, start your project on launchpad :-)22:32
arsalan_Oearheks, Thanks22:36
PryMar56Meercat: trick was to remove vgchange in /lib/udev/rules.d/85-lvm2.rules, then rebuild ramfs. No more delay in scripts/init-bottom22:51
PryMar56undo the mod after ramfs is built22:52
