virtualbox504 | Hello | 01:40 |
---|---|---|
chrispa6e | hello, please can anyone tell me how to disable guest in 15.10? | 02:22 |
Unit193 | cat /etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf.d/50-noguest.conf | 02:23 |
Unit193 | [SeatDefaults] | 02:23 |
Unit193 | allow-guest=false | 02:23 |
chrispa6e | @Unit ty, I'll try. | 02:25 |
chrispa6e | no such file or directory. | 02:27 |
sak | yes, something like that. There is a PDF download for administration ubuntu for first installation. When I find it I will post the link | 02:27 |
Unit193 | That's a file I created (well technically a package installs /usr/share/lightdm/lightdm.conf.d/50-noguest.conf for me, but same thing only you should create that file in etc.) | 02:27 |
cfhowlett | !ubuntu+1 | chrispa6e | 02:28 |
ubottu | chrispa6e: wily werewolf is the codename for Ubuntu 15.10 - Support only in #ubuntu+1 | 02:28 |
Unit193 | cfhowlett: Xubuntu supports beta releases in here. | 02:29 |
Unit193 | Pre-beta not so much though. | 02:29 |
chrispa6e | Ok, sorry. | 02:30 |
Unit193 | chrispa6e: No you're good. | 02:30 |
chrispa6e | I was missing [SeatDefaults] line. It works now ty. | 02:42 |
Unit193 | Sure thing! | 02:42 |
Fjorgynn | morning | 07:12 |
valutcizen | Hi! | 08:00 |
valutcizen | I need someone who have good knowlage with initrd init sripts in xubuntu to add feature (i can pay for support) | 08:02 |
bazhang | try alis valutcizen | 08:04 |
bazhang | !alis | valutcizen | 08:04 |

xubuntu43i | hey everyone | 10:51 |
knome | hello. | 10:54 |
knome | :P | 10:54 |
Fjorgynn | https://i.imgur.com/SXBFr8Z.png | 11:24 |
Fjorgynn | love this | 11:24 |
knome | glad to hear you enjoy xubuntu | 11:35 |
Unit193 | Trying to think if that's gmrun or what, kind of looked like i3 but said you were using xfwm. | 11:36 |
campee | for some reason my laptop's touchpad has stopped working after upgrading to xubuntu 15.10. i checked "settings" and verified that the device is enabled. i ran "evtest" against /dev/input/eventX and when i move my finger around on the touchpad and i see a ton of output, so it's picking up the device properly. any ideas? | 18:10 |
holstein | campee: i would run the live iso that i know supported the hardware, or, windows, if its installed, and promised to support the hardware.. i would want to see that its not broken, before i spend (waste) too much time trying to "fix" it.. | 18:11 |
campee | it worked just fine with ubuntu 14.04/14.10 | 18:11 |
holstein | if you feel your tests provide that, then, you can move on.. | 18:11 |
campee | are you suggesting that my touchpad is broken? | 18:12 |
holstein | campee: sure. but, the key word there is "worked".. if you havent see it working.. and, it doenst take long to fire up a live iso | 18:12 |
holstein | campee: no. im suggesting that you can test, and definitively rule that out. thats all. im not assuming its broken | 18:12 |
campee | what about evtest generating output when i move my finger on the touchpad? | 18:12 |
holstein | campee: as i said, if you feel that satisfies that for you, then move on.. could be something specifically broken in 15.10 right now, since, its not released yet | 18:13 |
campee | 15.04. sorry, i misspoke | 18:13 |
holstein | i think i would simply try my guest account, and make sure that its a system wide issue.. or, see if its isolated to the user config | 18:14 |
campee | alright. let me try a guest account | 18:15 |
holstein | would be relevant to see if *any* controller moved the cursor.. etc.. can an external USB mouse move the cursor.. does it happen as other users.. | 18:15 |
campee | well, the mouse doesn't work at the login screen, so i'm not surprised that it doesn't work in the guest account :) | 18:16 |
campee | this is an IBM thinkpad. it has two mice, a touchpad and a trackpad. the trackpad works fine, but i prefer the touchpad (which used to work!) | 18:17 |
holstein | well, if it were my machine, i would simply run a 15.04 live iso on it, and see that it works with 15.04.. then, i would know what all about the hardware specifically supports ubuntu 15.04 | 18:18 |
holstein | campee: you are referring to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingTouchpadDetection ? | 18:18 |
campee | come on man, if 14.04 and 14.10 supported my touchpad, you really don't think that 15.04 would? heh | 18:19 |
holstein | campee: no, i dont think that.. but, im saying, *i* would know, by just simply testing. since, its easy to do so | 18:19 |
campee | yeah, that's what i was following | 18:19 |
holstein | campee: but, you dont have to. im just saying, it saves me time to know for sure | 18:20 |
campee | i just feel like it's 99.99% going to work off the liveCD and it's not worth my time to find a USB drive, download an ISO, put it on the USB drive, reboot, etc to eliminate an extremely small possibility. reasonable? | 18:22 |
holstein | campee: its not really up to me to decide that for you.. if you think its resonable, then, it is.. im quite sure, personally, its an issue with the upgrade | 18:22 |
campee | right. i'd like to move in the direction of debugging what this issue could be. i followed that guide and didn't make much progress and was hoping for some suggestions here | 18:24 |
holstein | campee: sure.. *did* you plug an external USB mouse in? that guide suggested that as well.. | 18:24 |
holstein | i think its relevant, since, its an upgrade.. to ask if you have a custom xorg.conf in place? | 18:25 |
campee | like i said, the trackpad mouse works fine. would you agree that negates the need to test a second mouse? | 18:26 |
holstein | campee: it takes me *so* little time to just grab a USB mouse, i just do that... but again, if you feel that is validating the test, then, you move on.. | 18:27 |
holstein | whats the output of "xinput" ? | 18:27 |
holstein | !paste | 18:27 |
ubottu | For posting multi-line texts into the channel, please use http://paste.ubuntu.com | To post !screenshots use http://imgur.com/ !pastebinit to paste directly from command line | Make sure you give us the URL for your paste - see also the channel topic. | 18:27 |
campee | http://pastebin.com/ExxhCLA9 | 18:28 |
holstein | campee: do you have an xorg.conf in place? or, have you configured your OS with an settings as such in the past? for the touchpad? | 18:29 |
campee | here's the output of evtest, where you can see me moving my finger around on the touchpad and it generating output: http://pastebin.com/b7ZBetV0 | 18:30 |
campee | holstein: i'm just using whatever the defaults are. i have not modified xorg.conf (to my knowledge) | 18:30 |
flips | should /etc/hostname be just hostname or fqdn? | 18:30 |
campee | it's just hostname on my system, which is what the installer put in | 18:34 |
campee | holstein any ideas? :) | 18:46 |
holstein | campee: sure.. try upstream at #ubuntu since, that channel will be more populated, and its more about "broken plumbing" due to the upgrade, likely | 18:47 |
campee | woohoo, i got it working | 19:01 |
campee | i tried to reinstall xserver-xorg-input-synaptics, only to find that it wasn't installed | 19:01 |
campee | so i tried installing it and got: | 19:01 |
campee | The following packages have unmet dependencies: xserver-xorg-input-synaptics : Depends: xserver-xorg-core (>= 2:1.15.99.903) | 19:01 |
holstein | yeah.. that's something you'll need | 19:02 |
campee | so i did apt-get install xserver-xorg-core | 19:02 |
campee | and i noticed that it did the following: | 19:02 |
campee | The following packages will be REMOVED: xserver-xorg-core-lts-vivid xserver-xorg-input-evdev-lts-vivid xserver-xorg-lts-vivid | 19:02 |
campee | i guess the old version was conflicting somehow | 19:02 |
campee | thanks for your help holstein | 19:05 |
holstein | campee: cheers.. you sorted it out :) | 19:05 |
[Akeno] | Just stepped back from Manjaro Linux to Xubuntu. Any specific updates to 14.04 since release 1? | 19:27 |
[Akeno] | I must kinda admit, #manjaro was more active channel... | 19:31 |
knome | [Akeno], what do you exactly even mean with your question? | 19:32 |
knome | [Akeno], point releases newer bring in new features, but bug fixes for sure | 19:32 |
knome | [Akeno], so, what kind of specific updates are you looking for? | 19:32 |
[Akeno] | Ah knome yeah I didn't use Xubuntu since 14.04.1, so now I've got 14.04.3, just curious what's done. | 19:32 |
knome | point releases are just maintaining | 19:33 |
[Akeno] | Happy to hear about bugfixes :) | 19:33 |
[Akeno] | Was kinda turned down by home folder [null encryption] bug at the time. That seems to be gone now. | 19:33 |
[Akeno] | But now it's stable to me :) | 19:34 |
