jpwhitinghey all, anyone running kubuntu here that could check something for me? I'm thinking of closing https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=34870000:06
ubottuKDE bug 348700 in kcm_clock "нельзя установить дату вручную" [Normal,Unconfirmed]00:06
jpwhitingthe translation says they can't set the date/time from system settings in "Regional settings" -> "date & time" even with the automatic set time checkbox unchecked00:07
jpwhitingit's working fine here, but I've got much newer plasma than 5.2.2 (running master branch from git)00:07
* keithzg is just going to stop being lazy and debootstrap an install on a GPT disk.00:44
keithzgjpwhiting: Hmm, I'm at work and we only run the LTS here, but I think I have a VM sitting around that I can fire back up to check this.00:46
jpwhitingkeithzg: awesome, thanks00:50
keithzgAh, hmm, it seems to have locked up System Settings?00:56
keithzgAlthough I guess I shouldn't be surprised, with the system clock versus the virtual machine clock probably causing a bit of a fight. I have 15.04 installed on two machines at home, I should probably just check there.00:56
jpwhitingah, could be, interesting, ok01:08
jpwhitingthanks for checking01:08
kraigim running a new install of kubuntu on my alienware m11xr3, i was wondering if i need to set up bumblebee for the drivers07:33
soee_new Kubuntu = Vivid ?07:35
kraig15.0407:35
hateballI think nvidia-prime is what is used these days for hybrids07:36
hateballAltho I will not swear upon such a claim07:36
soee_yes, kraig add this ppa https://launchpad.net/~graphics-drivers/+archive/ubuntu/ppa07:36
soee_and just install driver version you want (probably 352)07:36
soee_it will install nvidia-prime etc.07:36
kraigi have the nvidia setting in the menu and can choose between intel and nvidia cards but not sure this is as good as the bumblebee project07:37
soee_kraig: it is supported by ubuntu developers07:37
soee_i'm using it on my Dell laptop for a long time07:37
kraigi have the the PRIME profiles in my xserver settings07:37
soee_kraig: nvidia-settings provides gui for nvidia-prime07:38
kraigdoes that mean it is all installed already07:38
soee_should be if you have nvidia driver installed07:38
soee_you can switch profile, than ogout and login again07:39
soee_and you should be on nvidia07:39
kraigyes thats what it does07:39
kraigim using the Nvidia binary driver-version 346.59 from nvidia-346-updates07:40
kraigsorry not the updates one lol07:40
kraigso am i right in thinking i dont need to mess with bumblebee at all then07:41
soee_kraig: you don't need bumblebee07:41
kraigthats super news, thank you all for your time and expertise07:41
kraigits much appreciated07:41
kraigwhy cant i get glxsperes in the konsole07:42
soee_glxgears ?07:43
kraigi think so, to check the driver and frame rates07:43
kraigah it says to install mesa-utils07:44
soee_it is an extra package, do you have it installed ?07:44
kraigsilly me07:44
kraigone last request, does anyone know what is a good FPS  as im getting 59.9 on my intel card profile07:46

petersaintsHi guys! I'm just wondering, are there plans to backport the latest KDE Plamas (5.4) to the current Ubuntu release (15.04), like you (almost?) always do? Or this time you will only make it available on the next version (15.10)? If it's the latter, is there a technical reason which makes it particularly hard to make KDE Plasma 5.4 work on a Ubuntu 15.04 base, or you are just currently lacking the man power to build and package KDE11:11
petersaintsPlamas 5.11:11
hateballafaik there's no plans on backports11:12
hateballbut 5.4 is in 15.10 alread11:12
petersaintsI know that it is on 15.10. It's just that we got used to get the latest KDE Plasma on the current release just a few days or a week after it was released. This time this didn't happen. But please understand that I'm not complaining.11:17
hateballbut if you're on 15.04 you're on non-lts anyhow, and should be upgrading at any rate11:18

jacobteyHi! Can anybody answer me what about localisation in KDEApplication 15.08? I'm using kubuntu-ci ppa. There isn''t kde-l10n-ru-15.08 in it. But KDE anounced this package in August.14:13
dieterdin case your kubuntu is on sda1 then there is a bug in file system.  You need to run "fsck.ext4"14:14
BluesKajjacobtey, check in #kubuntu-devel14:14
jacobteythanx14:15
dieterdBut this only works when your partition is not mounted. So you need a live file CD or USB-live version to correct your file system.14:15
KSXi still have kubuntu on usb stick14:15
KSXso i boot from usb and then..... ?14:16
KSXshould i do "fsck.ext4 -p" in the terminal?14:17
dieterdKSX: you should install smartmontools and run sudo smartctl /dev/sda to find out whats with your HD too14:18
KSXsmartmontools from the repo?14:18
dieterdyes, but when startet from stick14:18
dieterdfrom the repo is good enough for built hard drives.14:19
KSXso, i should boot from usb and select "try kubuntu" ?14:19
BluesKajKSX, it won't hurt anything, go ahead14:20
dieterdKSX: yes, go to terminal and fsck.ext4    /dev/sda114:20

lordievadertrixi: Does 'paplay /usr/share/sounds/alsa/Front_Center.wav" produce anything?18:44
trixino18:45
trixiwhat should I hear btw?18:45
lordievaderA voice saying "Front center".18:46
lordievaderThe speakers themselves work?18:46
BluesKajyes heaphone ctl muted18:47
trixiyes, I used them in windows minutes before logging into linux so I don't think they broke in that time18:47
trixiI mean, it's possible that they broke in that time18:48
trixiI could check :D18:49
BluesKajis this a surround sound speaker system?18:49
BluesKaj5.1 or ...?18:49
trixino, just one box for bass and two small speakers18:50
BluesKajok18:50
BluesKajtri what about system settings>multimedia>music&video> device preference , what options are listed there?18:52
BluesKajtrixi,^18:52
trixiBluesKaj: http://i.imgur.com/zGFitwJ.png18:58
BluesKajtrixi, click on the analog stereo oprton and click the test button at the bottom if there is one19:00
trixihttp://i.imgur.com/D5wDoIm.png19:01
trixia clicked those, but nothing happens19:02
trixiI'm guessing I should hear a sound19:02
BluesKajtrixi, pulseaudio hads chosen the hdmi output in the hardware setup for some reason,  click on the dropdown an there should be the analog stereo option on the soundcard, profile, sound device and connector19:05
BluesKajchoose the analog in all of those19:06
BluesKajthen click on apply of course19:07
trixiI tried I think every variation of analog, but no sound19:20
BluesKajodd, I assume you are using the analog output connection from the sound card to the speaker system ,. either minijack or rca, but not the hdmi19:23
soee_why are you using hdmi output ?19:23
soee_set something liek Analog Duplex Stereo or Analog Stereo Output19:24
soee_and try built-in device19:25
BluesKajsoee_, thnk pulseaudio is using it...hdmi seems to take precedence19:25
trixiI use a minijack19:25
soee_are you on some laptop or pc ?19:27
trixiI tried all of them, even the ones that don't make sense19:27
trixipc19:27
BluesKajdamn pulseaudio what a pita19:27
BluesKajI don't need pulse so I purge it19:28
trixiwhat could I use instead of pulseaudio19:29
soee_meh, install pavucontrol19:29
soee_and use this gui to configure sound19:29
BluesKajintel audio doesn't need pulse unless one wants to use several sound sources simultaneously19:31
BluesKajalsa and intel work very well together without PA mucking theings up IME19:32
BluesKajtrixi, pulseaudio is a requirement for some soundcards that don't have properly written drivers, but intel drivers are solid with alsa whewreas othe audi chips rely on pulseaudio to finish the job for them19:37
BluesKajerr other audio chips19:37
BluesKajand the thing that irks me the most is just removing pulseaudio won't work, it has to be purged , both pulseaudio and pulseaudio-utils, otherwise they remain behind and continue to muck up the audio19:41
trixipurging sounds like a lot of work19:45
BluesKajI just use the package manager19:45
trixioh19:46
BluesKajsudo apt purge pulseaudio && sudo apt purge pulseaudio-utils will work19:47
BluesKajin the konsole if you must'19:47
BluesKajtrixi, the package manager prefer is not the default muon-discover ,,but the older version, just muon19:49
BluesKajmuon discover is not well setup for my needs19:50
* genii sticks to apt19:51
trixiI don't even know why am I using pulseaudio19:53
BluesKajit's there by default adopted for all ubuntus back in 2008 I think ..was a very political decision at the time .. lots of users hated it but accepted it after the newer ubuntus releases audio drivers were written to depend on pulse19:56
trixiI see19:56
BluesKajsome non intel cards can run without pulse, but they can't link to alsa from flash on websites so flashaudio on the web doesn't work...thank God HTML5 is coming soon and flash audio won't be needed19:59
BluesKajyoutube mostly uses HTML5 now for audio20:00
BluesKajwell, calling it a day here ...other stuff to do, take care20:04
ik_hi20:06
ik_who is here ?20:06
