lsdopI have a really annoying problem with my copy of 15.04 64-bit. I can see I'm connected to the internet, but will randomly get DNS_PROBE_FINISHED_NO_INTERNET errors and won't be able to reach any internet pages unless I unplug my router or reconnect to the network. lshw information for my router: https://bpaste.net/raw/c0947a47417b05:24
lsdopIt's an N300 USB router.05:24
lsdopAnd Lubuntu 15.04 since I didn't say.05:26
ianorlynlsdop: what kind of device are you suing to connet to the router?05:28
leszektsimonq2: why ? There are tons of apps for that09:22
tsimonq2leszek: That don't work. If you get one working, let me know, because I have tried11:40
tsimonq2*won't not don't :)11:40
leszekhow about grive ?12:13
Mathisenhello i need some help i just installed lubuntu 15.10 on a Compaq 6715b  i need some help to get the wireless working.. it did not install it13:09
hateballMathisen: what sort of chipset does it have?13:11
hateballI've had a fair few 6715b in my hands over the years, cant remember the chipset most common tho13:11
Mathisenhateball, to be honest i dont know..13:12
hateballMathisen: run lspci13:12
hateballI dont think that machine is new enough to have wifi on usb, otherwise run lsusb13:13
hateballyou should see some line with network, probably Realtek or Broadcom13:14
Mathisenhmm it dont show upp just the regular network card that is a broadcom13:14
Mathisenbut i had windows on it before and it worked so it should be working atleast13:15
hateballMathisen: did you run both lspci and lsusb ?13:15
Mathiseni did both the only one in the list is the regular card13:16
Mathisenno wifi card13:16
hateballthat doesnt sound right13:16
hateballcould you pastebin it?13:16

Mathisenshure 2 sec13:16
Mathisenhmm copy command in xterm ?13:20
Mathiseni dont have a middle mouse button13:21
Mathisen:)13:21
hateballMathisen: you can "sudo apt-get install pastebinit && lspci |pastebinit && lsusb |pastebinit"13:23
hateballMathisen: also, ctrl+shift+c/v13:23
Mathisenhateball, pastebin.com/1RZGKc3K13:24
hateballMathisen: and lsusb ?13:26
hateballnm13:26
hateballI cant scroll :D13:26
Mathisen:)13:26
hateballwell, it's obviously broadcom at any rate, question is why isnt it even showing up as a device :|13:27
Mathisenindeed :(13:28
Mathisenand its turned on also13:28
hateballMathisen: guess you could try "sudo apt-get update && sudo ubuntu-drivers autoinstall"13:28
hateballaltho if the device isnt even found, I dont know13:28
hateballit should show both bluetooth and wifi modules under lsusb13:29
hateballMathisen: hmmm, do you have wifi/ethernet switching active in bios?13:29
Mathisenlet me check but it should yes13:32
Mathisenlike i said had windows on it and it worked13:32
Mathisenso i havent changed anything in bios13:33
hateballwell if you have the switching active it will disable wifi while ethernet is connected13:33
hateballthat is why I am asking13:33
hateballI *think* it does it by virtually unplugging the usb device, so that would make it not show13:34
hateballand you need a network connection to fetch the broadcom firmware13:34
hateballguess the simple question is: was ethernet and wifi active at the same time in windows?13:35
profus2@Mathisen: did you turn on wireless via hardware switch?13:35
profus2is the wireless LED turned on?13:36
Mathisenprofus2, yes its on13:37
Mathisenand i checked bios now its on13:37
profus2hmm13:37
profus2https://serverfault.com/questions/14504/hp-6716s-6715b-and-6710s-laptops-on-linux-wireless-problem13:38
profus2looks like it has Broadcom BCM43XX card13:38
profus2quote: The reason you're not seeing the light turn on is because the right driver isn't loading. The hardware expects a signal from the driver telling it to come out of sleep mode; it does this on Windows boots too, if you watch it.13:39
Mathisenthe light is on .. its blue and i cant turn it off also13:40
Mathisencan13:40
hateballit controls bluetooth as well does it not, that button13:40
hateballMathisen: I suppose "rfkill list" is only bluetooth?13:41
Mathisenif i run " sudo rfkill list " it shows blurtooth but no wireless13:41
Mathisensoft and har blocked = no13:41
hateballMathisen: is this 15.04 btw?13:42
Mathisenhateball, umm yes sorry typed wrong before it is13:42
hateballoh it doesnt really matter, just checking13:43
Mathisenwell i think i will resume this on monday only 15 min left on my work day :) ... time to relax with a beer or 213:44
Mathiseni think i just try to install a diffrent dist13:44
Mathisenbut thx anyway for the feedback and help13:44
hateballMathisen: you could try "sudo apt-get install firmware-b43-installer"13:44
Mathisenokej il try that13:44
hateballbut again, it's weird when the machine doesnt even pick up the device13:45
hateballI've personally used *ubuntu on many 6715b but it is some releases ago13:45
profus2@Mathisen: try LXLE13:46
hateballand I do not recall having to do anything but activate the firmware...13:46
Mathisenhateball, okej its done do i need to reboot ? or only restart a service ?13:46
hateballMathisen: reboot, for modules to load13:46
Mathisenrebooting...13:47
hateballwell you can load manually but reboot is just as quick :p13:47
profus2http://lxle.net/13:47
Mathisenlets hope it works :)13:47
Mathisenhateball, nice one! it worked13:48
Mathisenthx13:48
