[04:11] yea my other computer keeps going into grub recover [04:11] it has vista and ubuntustudio 14.04 installed [04:11] i would just replace grub, and see if it addresses the alleged issue.. [04:11] !bootrepair [04:11] Boot-Repair is a simple tool to repair frequent boot issues you may encounter in Ubuntu. See https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Boot-Repair for more info. [04:12] i would backup, and also, i might run a smart test.. see if the hard drive is bad, or going bad.. [04:12] I ran boot repair by using the install cd I made for ubuntustudio [04:12] right.. that should be the easiest way to put a boot loader back on the disk [04:13] but, the question is.. what happened to the boot loader? if that answer is having something to do with disk failure, then, you wont fix it with software [04:13] Last thing the computer did was a windows update. I have a hunch that moved or deleted normal.mod as thats the error I am getting [04:14] feel free and share the *exact* error, here, or in #ubuntu [04:14] error: file '/grub/i386-pc/normal.mod' not found. grub rescue> [04:15] zro: did you look and see if you have that file? [04:16] Im unable to boot any OS on the computer without the live cd. Can I see that file from the live cd? [04:16] http://askubuntu.com/questions/266429/error-file-grub-i386-pc-normal-mod-not-found [04:16] !uefi [04:16] UEFI is a specification that defines a software interface between an operating system and platform firmware. It is meant as a replacement for the BIOS. For information on how to set up and install Ubuntu and its derivatives on UEFI machines please read https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UEFI [04:17] zro: sure. you can, and likely will have to use a live iso to "repair" this.. or, maybe a bios setting would allow you to get around it [04:17] ok ill search for that file now [04:18] "Grub has a small core image that is loaded at boot time. The core image dynamically loads modules which provide further functionality. i386-pc/normal.mod not found indicates that grub can not load normal.mod, which is a grub module that provides the normal command. To load normal.mod you need to tell grub where it is. To do this you can use the grub command-line (aka Rescue Console). Grub will start the command-line if there is a problem b [04:21] Ok, I tried manually setting the boot in the grub rescue, however I kept getting errors using the "linux" command [04:21] I was following these instructions http://unix.stackexchange.com/questions/148041/recovering-from-grub-rescue-crash [04:24] On a side note I was able to see my grub folder from the live cd. normal.mod is not in the i386-pc folder [04:58] boot repair fixed it .. just had to run it a second time === sakrezzzZZz is now known as sakrecoer === wook is now known as Guest89381 [18:26] hello he need command line to install kwin on studio 14.04 [18:44] Legiao Urbana [18:45] Hola !
