teksHi. just installed xubuntu 14.04.03, I have a dircolors issue on xfce-terminal, here's a sshot http://en.zimagez.com/zimage/screenshot-17-09-2015-163904.php13:44
tekson the left gnome-terminal, on right xfce-terminal, same background colors.13:44
tekssame LS_COLORS env var13:45
tekswhy xfce-terminal has different colors? how can change it?13:45
cfhowlettteks, preferences13:46
cfhowlettteks, you could do colors > presets > load presets.  I prefer green on black, but that's just me.13:46
tekscfhowlett: I think this is coloring of ls command, controlled by dircolors command and LS_COLORS env var. I cant set these on colors tab of terminal preferences13:48
teksyet somehow, xfce terminal displays differently, and can't see how it does that13:49

teksyes, the problem was terminal's palette settings. sorry for noise14:33
cfhowlettteks, exactly how did you solve?14:34
tekswhen you hover over the palette with mouse, color names appear as tooltip. white was mapped to dark gray, blue was mapped to some other dark color, then I realised palette was very changed. so i cleared terminal's settings under ~/.config/terminal/*14:37
cfhowlettThat there is some good detective work, Lou!14:37
teksI didn't know the palette worked like that. one can simply map any color to predefined color names14:40
tekscan I save my color settings under a new preset name?14:43
cfhowlettteks probably.  checking now, i think you can do a custom color preset14:43
teksthis is xubuntu 14.04 btw, not latest xfce14:44
cfhowlettteks YES>  Palette14:44
cfhowlettThe terminal provides the application running inside with a palette of 16 colors. You can customize these colors using the 16 color buttons. To show the palette combinations, run xfce4-terminal --color-table in a window.14:44
tekscfhowlett: thanks.15:06

krytarikteks: To answer your question, have a look at: http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~xubuntu-art/xubuntu-artwork/vivid/revision/282#usr/share/xfce4/terminal/colorschemes/xubuntu-dark.theme15:34
tekskrytarik: did my response appear in channel?15:40
krytarikNope. :D15:41
tekskrytarik: yeah, figured that. but could not make it load from ~/.config/xfce4/terminal/...15:41
krytarikteks: Didn't try if it works user-specific too yet.15:42
teksI guess it's not possible to create custom local themes, only one nameless color scheme stored in ~/.config/xfce4/terminal/terminalrc15:44
krytarikteks: Yep, doesn't work there.15:52

drcnikos_: 1) which version of Xubuntu do you have, 2) What makes you think " possibly some libraries messed up"?19:41
bekks3) and why do you try to manually install libraries which arent in the repos?19:42
nikos_14.04 and as I said some days ago I tried to install acestream, today abiword don't open.19:43
drc4) how did you attempt to install acestream (wharever that is), it's not in the repos?19:43

zarch5hello all20:46
knomehello20:46
zarch5I'm facing an issue with Xubuntu 14.04 LTS20:47
zarch5updated a little today, including kernel  ( 3.13.0-63-generic )  and now I cannot pass the  lightdm login20:48
zarch5password is correct  (I'm connected in console and via "SSH -X")  but it's a famous problem of "login loop"20:49
=== ColtonDRG-Core is now known as ColtonDRG
zarch5I checked on many forums such as StackOverflow but the solutions didn't help20:49
zarch5I wish I just knew what log file to check20:50
knomeso... what did those instruct you to do then?20:50
zarch5for what I can remember...20:51
zarch5chown $USER:$USER .Xauthority  (and optionally  .ICEauthority )20:51
knomehave you logged in as root graphically?20:52
zarch5check PATH for presence of   /sbin  ...20:52
zarch5I didn't try that in 15 years, no  :)20:52
knomeok20:52
knometry removing ~/.cache unless you've done that already20:52
zarch5lemme try that cache...20:53
zarch5I wipe it all ?20:53
zarch5worth  374 MB   lol20:54
zarch5done20:55
zarch5doesn't help yet20:55
zarch5I restart  lightdm20:55
zarch5nope...20:55
zarch5I checked  .profile  too   ...untouched for years20:57
zarch5.xsession-errors  is totally empty20:58
Unit193zarch5: It wouldn't be .xsession-errors, it'd be ~/.cache/upstart/startxfce4.log (or /var/log/lightdm/lightdm.log in your case)21:11
Unit193You can also just rm those two files, don't have to chown them.21:11
Unit193!xhangs21:11
ubottuIf the GUI hangs after logging in, use <ctrl><alt><f1> to switch to text mode. Log in and do: rm .{X,ICE}authority21:11
zarch5I know well, about the terminals, otherwise I'd be Knoppixing or something  :)21:12
zarch5thanks...  I check the logs21:12
zarch5right now I'm both logged in Term 1 and remotely via a  ssh -X21:12
zarch5in  auth.log  I see hints about PAM issues21:22
zarch5pam_kwallet.so  would be faulty...21:22

zarch5thanks to those who tried to help me23:17
zarch5reminder of my problem:  impossible to enter desktop manager session from  lightdm  on 14.04 LTS23:18
krytarikzarch5: Tried the Guest session yet?23:20
zarch5in the update, the config file  /etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf  gets that line  session-wrapper=/etc/lightdm/Xsession  which might be useful in some universe but that is better replaced by  greeter-session=lightdm-gtk-greeter23:20
zarch5you bet the guest session is one of the first thing you try  ...at least in the first hour23:21
zarch5I've been on this for 5 hours23:21
zarch5the reason why it's a problem from hell is that you get no error message in any log file23:22
zarch5authentications say you got access granted23:23
zarch5lightdm log says that no session required the display23:23
zarch5can you believe that a release config file feature a line such as  " autologin-user=username "23:24
