superstepaI just installed Xubuntu on my Dell Inspiron 3147 and whenever I try to shut it down it becomes completely unresponsive (everything is off except for screen) and hangs at "reached target shutdown". I tried to set acpi to off and force but I've been having no luck with that. Have any of you guys experienced a similar problem? Is there a fix?03:46
superstepaIt's running 15.04, forgot to mention that03:47
sinewavI had the same problem as superstepa, but never found a solution and downgraded to 14.04. Hope it's fixed in the next release because I'm in serious need of an upgrade.05:24
fluke_IThi all, some one can help me please?08:27

sim642Is that kind of thing configurable somewhere?12:36
sim642didn't find it under "Window Manager" nor "Window Manager Tweaks"12:36
holsteinsim642: you added compiz?12:37
sim642I haven't added anything DE/WM-wise12:42
sim642unless something else installed it for me12:43
sim642nope, no compiz installed12:43
holsteinsim642: https://forum.xfce.org/viewtopic.php?pid=33003 this seems relevant12:44
holsteini would like to see a "disable desktop zoom" as well...12:45
sim642so it's not configurable?12:54
holsteinsim642: well, in the most open of concepts, *everything* is configurable.. that link show a few ways to change things. but,  AFAIK, there is not an easy tickbox integragted into a UI yet12:59
sim642yeah that's what I was wondering13:01
holsteinhttp://askubuntu.com/questions/479465/how-to-disable-alt-scroll-zoom-in-xubuntu-14-04 looks like what i would try13:02

Dark-StarHi! Anyone here who could help me debug some problems with the ACPI power switch of my laptop that's been non-working since updating from 14.10 to 15.04? I guess it might have to do with the systemd switch...16:14

xubuntu80wHow do I save a disk with photos that I have had developed at Shoppers Drugmart, they made the actual photos and inlcuded a disk for a computer. I was unable to save them on my laptop that has xubuntu on it18:37
xubuntu80W_how to save photos from a disk on xubuntu ?18:51
xubuntu80W_I have a disk that a company who developed photos gave me but I dont seem to be able to save it on my xubuntu18:53
holsteinxubuntu80W_: to save the disc?19:07
holsteinyou can always ask the company how they expect you to deal with it.. or, tell them you need linux support.. but, you should be able to just open the disc and see what the files are, and move them as you please, in the filemanager..19:08
holsteinxubuntu80W_: thinking of it like this, is probably not correct.. you are really not trying to 'save them on your computer'.. you just have a disc, from a place with pictures on it.. step one.. try opening the disc.. see that you see pictures.. if you do, you just copy them onto whatever hard drive you like inside xubuntu using the filemanager19:09
xubuntu80W_I didnt see the photos at all when I inserted the disk, nothing showed up on the screen19:19
xubuntu80W_I will try the filemanager19:20
xubuntu80W_thanks19:20
xubuntu65wI'm back. After doing a clean install 14.04 LTS xubuntu everything worked ok. After doing updates and restarting per instructions it hangs up after login. Tried several times wired and not. help please19:51
holsteinxubuntu65w: try the older kernel..19:53
holsteinxubuntu65w: you should see grub at boot? and be able to select it? also.. is there a chance you are having a hard drive issue?19:54
xubuntu65wi dont have a hard drive SSD, dont see grub at boot19:55
holsteinxubuntu65w: you dont have a hard drive?19:56
holsteinor, as you saying, you have a solid state hard drive?19:56
xubuntu65wi have ssd only19:56
holsteinanyways.. all im asking is, if you are certain there is nothing wrong with it.. if not, consider testinng it19:56
holsteinhttp://askubuntu.com/questions/16042/how-to-get-to-the-grub-menu-at-boot-time press shift during boot, and select an older kernel..19:57
xubuntu65wit has worked fine with ubuntu for a long time. now i switched to xubuntu. just 30 minutes ago it was ok until i restarted19:57
holsteinxubuntu65w: xubuntu *is* ubuntu19:58
holsteinits more likely you would be comparing different kernels.. does the machine boot with the older kernel? the one that was on the machine that you say worked at install? please try booting it from your grub menu19:58

purukumihello @all , is this a  help/support channel or do i have to change? :)20:29
mrkrampsthis is the right channel for support20:29
purukumialright good to know. i am using xubuntu 14.04 LTS and i wanted to ask whether you can see jpg files when your phone is connected to the PC20:31
mrkrampsdepends on how your phone is connected20:32
purukumibecause always when i want to open a jpg-file on my phone it says that it cannot open it, if i copy it to my desktop, it works..20:32
purukumiit is connected via usb and MTP20:32
mrkrampshm, i am not sure if MTP is properly working for direct access20:34
holsteinyou take the file to the computer, and you can easily open and edit jpg's on any linux distro20:35
holsteini usually just setup some way of transfering files over a network connection..20:35
purukumiwell, i tried some distributions yesterday, like kubuntu, openSUSE and xubuntu - and I think that in kubuntu there was a programm which allowed me a preview of the pictures20:36
mrkrampspurukumi, are those jpgs in the folder for the cam or somewhere else?20:36
xubuntu65wholstein.  I tried booting from Grub with the same non results. I suspect that i deleted something that i shouldn't have while customizing before the restart. I think i will just clean it out and start over. wasted day. thanks for the response. Ubuntu user since 2008.20:36
holsteinxubuntu65w: you tried booting the older kernel?20:36
purukumithe jpgs are located in a folder on the phone named "camera"20:37
holsteinpurukumi: cool.. put them on the computer, and look at them..20:37
purukumiholstein you dont understand - i am trying to find a way of not copying everything on the computer the whole time..20:38
holsteinpurukumi: sure.. then, ask the creator of the phone how they intend you to look at jpegs..20:38
holsteinor, you can just have images automatically sync between a few folders, on the phone and computer, to simplify the process20:39
holsteinxubuntu cant really do anything to make your phone have jpeg support..20:39
mrkrampspurukumi, which protocoll is shown in the adress bar of your file manager?20:39
purukumiholstein, the pictures that i take with my camera on the phone are saved as jpg's20:39
purukumii can open them on my phone...20:40
holsteinpurukumi: i understand.. and, if the phone is preventing computers from mounting the storage, then, you can have issues mounting the storage. i know, some do20:40
holsteinwhat you are asking is, can you just hook your phone up, via USB connnection, and browse the internal storage on the phone, mounted in linux20:41
mrkrampsholstein, actually he asked something completely different20:41
purukumii can browse the internal storage freely20:41
holsteinmrkramps: i thought so, as well.. but, i'll jjust let you have at it.. enjoy20:42
purukumii just dont get a PREVIEW OF JPG'S20:42
purukumiis this a german support channel? :D20:42
mrkrampsno, it is not20:42
mrkrampspurukumi, german support is mainly in #ubuntu-de20:42
purukumiokay..would be a bit easier to explain it :P20:42
holsteinthumbnails*20:43
holsteini think that will help ^20:43
purukumibut lets see so, i just connected my phone now i go in thrust and open the internal storage of my phone and access the camera folder where the jpg's are located20:43
purukumiand when i open a picture in this folder then it opens "ristretto" (its called i think)20:44
purukumiand there is no content in the pictures20:44
mrkrampspurukumi, did you wait some seconds?20:44
purukumialso tried "Fspo" and "Gwenview"20:44
mrkrampsmtp might be a bit slow20:44
purukumithe programm is still open, but nothing seems to happen :/20:45
mrkrampsok, so back to my former question, what is shown in the adress bar of your file manager when opening the mounted folder20:46
purukumimtp://[usb:001,003]/Phone/DCIM/Camera/20:47
purukumiis that what you mean?20:47
mrkrampsok, did you already tried to change the phone's connection mode to camera?20:47
purukumiso PTP?20:47
mrkrampsand yes, that's what i wanted to know to be sure it IS using mtp20:48
mrkrampsyes, PTP20:48
purukumiooomg myyy goooood thank you so much :D20:48
purukumiit worked :)20:48
mrkrampsMTP is mainly for file transfer20:48
mrkrampsas said before, it might not work properly for direct access20:49
purukumiokay so just switching to MTP in order to transer files and PTP for pictures - got it!20:49
purukumithanks very much mrkramps20:52
mrkrampsyou're welcome!20:52
Replopso much transfert protocols ....20:54

puffMy thinkpad t520 seems to semi-randomly go into this mode where the bottom of edge of the picture is below the bottom edge of the screen.  It's not that the window needs to be resized, when I maximize the window, the bottom quarter inch or so of the window is off screen.22:43
puffAny idea what's causing this, how to fix it, how to prevent it from happening again?22:43
