cloaked1so I'm running Kubuntu 15.04 (upgraded from 14.10) which totally borked my Linux installation. Finally decided to try and fix it. Did a full fresh install of 15.04 but then KDE just dies after about 2 mins of being up. xsession-errors.log shows "Battery No file queue: suspended or on battery"04:38
cloaked1Looking through lsof and grep'ing for xsession-error shows something that I missed before. kde4 and kde5 are both running apparently. This doesn't seem right.04:39
cloaked1I am new to using kde as far as having a deep knowledge to how it works.04:39
cloaked1can someone confirm that kde4 and 5 should not be running in parallel?04:41
valoriecloaked1: you are correct04:48
cloaked1kk04:49
cloaked1thx...brb04:49
valoriefrom a fresh install that should not be happening, for sure04:49
cloaked1right04:55
cloaked1so, it was a fresh install but kde would just halt04:55
cloaked1I was able to ssh into the box and take a look at the xsession-errors file04:55
cloaked1I kept getting the battery error04:55
cloaked1doing a search for that error on the Googles sent me to the KDE CI site. I decided to run that installation expecting kde(whatever) to get upgraded.04:56
cloaked1turns out, that didn't happen04:56
cloaked1so, what's the best way to uninstall kde4 and go with just the kde5. I suppose I could remove everything kde and then do a fresh install of kde5 from the CI repo.04:57

lordievaderGood morning.08:42
FOADHowdy.08:46
lordievaderHey FOAD08:46
FOADI need to rename a whole bunch of files; they all have slight differences in the filenames which means anything with regexes is not suitable. Do you guys know of a tool that will basically lets me make a list of old and new (desired) filenames and then process them?08:47
FOADHey lordievader.  Thanks again for the help last time. :)08:47
lordievaderFOAD: Write a bash script?08:49
FOAD:(08:49
lordievaderWell, if the dolphin batch rename doesn't cut it, that is the easiest alternative I'd say.08:50
FOADIt is, if you're proficient at writing bash scripts.08:51
lordievaderI know of one way of becoming proficient at writing bash scripts...08:53
FOADYes.08:54
FOADWell I guess I naïvely assumed I was not the first person ever to have such a task at hand, and that a pre-existing solution would exist.08:54
lordievaderFOAD: What kind of renaming are you looking for anyway?08:55
FOADA date (that cannot be extracted from the current filename) needs to be added; various parts (different for each file name) of description need to be added or removed; an index (not deducible from the filename, or current sorting of files) needs to be added.08:57
lordievaderSounds like you want to edit metadata rather than the filename.08:58
FOADNo, because the program that I will be using these files with do not understand metadata.08:58
lordievaderDo relialize there is a max length for a filename. You might exceed it with this kind of naming scheme.08:59
FOADI won't, thanks. :)09:01
FOADLooks like qmv might be for me.09:03
FritigernFOAD: Look into Krename09:15
FritigernIt's quite flexible. It can (amongst many other things) read meta tags and set those as (part of the) filename09:16
FOADThank you. :)09:24

BluesKajHiyas all12:35
WildPikachuis there a right onscreen keyboard to use for kubuntu (wily) for a tablet?13:31
ejayHi all. How can I make so new windows and applications open on primary screen not secondary?13:46
lordievaderejay: Check the window placement algorithm setting and the window snapping.13:54
BluesKajhmm, kmix in the sys traydisappeared and won't launch ...again14:00
BluesKajkmix launch error: "QDBusConnection: session D-Bus connection created before QCoreApplication. Application may misbehave."14:06
lordievaderThat is relatively standard error, never seen it do real harm.14:07
BluesKajyeah lordievader, but I use it to set my audio preferences, since i use different settings depending on how I listen to the audio, over the speaker system or wireless headphones14:14
BluesKajI can manage with resetting the audio source in VLC tho14:16
lordievaderI was talking about the D-Bus error, not about kmix not running.14:16
BluesKajyeah it's obviously not causing a problem other than not launching14:17
BluesKajbut it's still a pita to me14:19
lordievaderAre you running 5.4.something?14:19
BluesKajyes14:20
BluesKaj5.4.214:20
lordievaderWasn't kmix replaced by something in 5.4?14:21
lordievaderhttps://dot.kde.org/2015/08/25/kde-ships-plasma-540-feature-release-august14:21
BluesKajyeah, the pulse volume ctl in the sys tray replaced kmix  as the default , but I don't use pulse so i replaced it with kmix and it did work for a while.14:23
joed_hello14:35

BluesKajkdeconnect plays nicely with android , but try finding an app on android that works easily with windows...I'm new to the phone devices and still learning14:40
chiakiis it normal that plasma-desktop/plasma-shell crash everytime and take up to 100% cpu? i never had such issues with the good told kde 3 :(15:00
BluesKajchiaki, which OS?15:04
=== user is now known as Guest45823
BluesKajok good, kmix is back15:41
lordievaderBluesKaj: How did you fix it?15:43
BluesKajI rebooted after a small update/upgrade  :-)15:44
lordievaderHeh, simple fix.15:45
Ab3Lsometimes the easiest and simplest way is the most efficent one15:53
lordievaderNah, it still included a reboot... I dislike reboots.15:54
BluesKajrebooting in a beta release is common practice15:57

lordievaderristex1: You can use nmcli, the cli frontend for managing the Network Manager. Though many people find the gui frontend easier..19:08
ristex1As long as it works i dont care if its easy or hard xD19:09
