I'm trying to install MySQL 5.6 onto Ubuntu server. When I run 'sudo mysql_install_db', I get this error message: 'FATAL ERROR: Could not find my-default.cnf'. I googled it and I'm told to use --basedir='path_to_mysql_base_dir'. My question is: Where on Ubuntu is the MySQL --basedir located? [11:59] alximych: you shouldn't need mysql_install_db - it's there already === RoyK^ is now known as RoyK [11:59] alximych: Did you install it from the repo? [12:01] lordievader: I used this command to instal MySQL: sudo apt-get install mysql-server-5.6 php5-mysql [12:02] Yes, everything that you need should have been setup for you. Like RoyK says, no need to run that command. [12:03] do I need to run sudo mysql_secure_installation ? [12:04] well, I run it anyway [12:04] alximych: During the install you've already setup root password, etc. I don't think you need to run it. [12:04] thanks a lot!!! [12:42] GRUB_RECORDFAIL_TIMEOUT is set to -30 by default, what does the -30 mean [13:41] :) [19:20] Is this a good spot to ask about ubuntu-vm0builder + kvm? [19:31] hi I'm trying to setup kvm on an ubuntu 15.04 server. I'm getting some errors when creating the container. here's the command I ran, and the output http://pastebin.com/HS5a0rU0 [19:42] jpastore: "This kernel does not support a non-PAE CPU." [19:43] lordievader, is there a kernel I could use? [19:44] What cpu are you running this on? [19:53] lordievader, http://pastebin.com/0RZiKvrc <-- cat /proc/cpuinfo [19:57] jpastore: Hmm, I'd let kvm copy your cpu info into the vm. [19:58] how do I do that? [19:59] prior to your response I started an OS reload with 14.04. I was trying different virtualization options. thought I blew it. [19:59] Using the vmbuilder I have no idea. I simply use virt-manager for configuration stuff. [19:59] ok [19:59] after they finish, I'll give it a go with virt-manager [19:59] isn't that a gui tool? [20:01] Yes. [20:01] Can I run viort-manager from here, or should I just tunnel x traffic over ssh? [20:03] jpastore: virt-manager is built on remote management. Just install virt-manager on your workstation, ssh and libvirtd does the rest. [20:03] oh yea? I'll give that a go thank! === trippeh_ is now known as trippeh === bittin- is now known as bittin === Lcawte is now known as Lcawte|Away
