bee_keeperhey, am thinking of getting ubuntu-touch, will i see loads of annoying ads built into it like android?  I dont want to buy music, vids and all that crap from my phone11:30
ogra_no, you wont ...11:31
ogra_there are options to buy music or videos (many people actually seem to do that) but you dont have to use them and there are no ads11:34
bee_keeperam ashamed to say i only found about this today, i saw an announcement ages ago but didn't realise it's avalable now..11:34
bee_keeperandroid is so commercial, it's sickening.  worse than apple11:34
bee_keeperi just want real control of my phone OS11:34
ogra_the curse of success :)11:34
bee_keeperIs it possible to run android apps on the ubuntu-touch?12:11
tathhuno12:14
JanCbee_keeper: you can browse/search available apps on https://uappexplorer.com/12:21
bee_keeperThanks for the answers, just bought the BQ Aquaris E4.512:53
ogra_bee_keeper, congrats !13:02
jgdxbee_keeper, \o/13:07
bee_keeperYep it looks like it's a long way from being perfect but it's definitely worthy of support13:10
ogra_it really depends on your needs, for me it is a proper day to day device ... but i mainly use G+, am fine with telegram instead of whatsapp and never really tied myself to any android apps before13:12
jgdxBeen using it as a daily driver for 1.2 years, and it is an amazing thing–IF you can refrain from comparing it to iPhone and Android.13:26
bee_keeperThing is android is hardly bug free.  I just had a Z3 and it was rubbish plus 3x the price13:27
ogra_i have to compare it at times (when helping my GF with her android phone) and i always go mad with android (the "back" action makes me crazy and i'm always trying to swipe)13:27
bee_keeperAnyway, gotta dash.  thanks again13:28
jgdxwas thinking about the comparison of ecosystems, but also comparisons of the ethics with which Canonical, Apple and Google operate.13:31
jgdxbut yeah, bugs too13:32

fuzzy7kHi all, I'm trying to port a new device, ls97018:11
fuzzy7kI have recovery and boot images flashed, both still work18:11
fuzzy7kbut when I run rootstock-touch-install, I get nothing. adb & fastboot see nothing.18:12
fuzzy7kwhere do I go from here?18:12
tripleclonesamazing how joining a channel generally helps me realise solution whilst typing the question :)19:15
tripleclonesso hi all, no help needed (yet)19:16

nhainestripleclones: haha, that's called rubber duck debugging!  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rubber_duck_debugging20:19
fuzzy7kWhy does the build process download files?21:33
fuzzy7kSecond, why does it fail when it can't find the server?21:34
fuzzy7kThird, why doen't it use the file that it just downloaded two minutes ago?21:34
fuzzy7k    raise ServerNotFoundError("Unable to find the server at %s" % conn.host)21:35
fuzzy7khttplib2.ServerNotFoundError: Unable to find the server at api.launchpad.net21:35
fuzzy7kmake: *** [/home/xs/optimus-ub/out/target/product/ls970/ramdisk.img] Error 121:36
nhainesWhy does the build process fail if it cannot download the files it needs from the server it can't find?21:45
fuzzy7kit just downloaded them previously21:48
fuzzy7kI'm also a little curious why it is downloading a binary ramdisk for an open source project.21:49
nhainesIf it's something that never changes, that's not uncommon.21:50
fuzzy7kIf it's something that never changes, why does it need to redownload during make21:51
nhainesBecause the script doesn't cache the file, I would assume.21:51
fuzzy7kIt was a retorical question. Hoping the dev's get the hint.21:52
nhainesIt probably isn't an issue for them.21:52
fuzzy7kI'd like to contribute, but so far no luck getting anything more than recovery working.21:53
nhainesWhat device are you working on?21:53
fuzzy7kls970, it uses the same kernel as e975, which is mid port.21:53
nhainesLooks nice.  I hope you can make some headway on it.21:54
fuzzy7kShould it be possible to fastboot flash system system.img(aosp image) and get a working adb shell?22:22
fuzzy7kAssuming fastboot flash boot boot.img22:22
