esphUnit193: there's stuff about controlling the brightness based on idle time, but nothing about saving brightness with the session for the next startup.00:07
esphUnit193: also, I wasn't able to find any package that seemed to contain "Netbook", if you were suggesting that as a way to save brightness settings.00:41
Unit193No, *my* netbook seems to do a decent job at it.  As far as I know it usually saves it.00:44
Unit193http://askubuntu.com/questions/227686/xubuntu-12-10-doesnt-save-screen-brightness-on-reboot could try that though.00:47
esphUnit193: Hmm, this laptop has the backlight settings in a different directory (There is both /sys/class/backlight/intel_backlight/brightness and /sys/class/backlight/intel_backlight/actual_brightness). Maybe that's why it doesn't work automatically? Anyway, that script looks like it should work, thanks.01:04
esphThough I'd guess there might be a problem if the brightness is zero somehow when it reboots...01:08

xubhi, after upgrading xubuntu, i can't boot and it gives me this message: starting version 219 target filesystem doesn't have requested /sbin/init. //bin/sh: 0 : can't open splash10:46
xubany help what could i do?10:46
ducassexub: what version did you upgrade from/to?11:30
xubducasse: 14.0411:42
ducassexub: to what version?11:43
xubducasse: 15.0411:44
ducassexub: did you upgrade to 14.10 first?11:44
xubducasse: nope11:44
ducassexub: since 15.04 isn't an LTS version, the recommended path is to go 14.04 -> 14.10 -> 15.0411:45
ducassexub: you are probably having problems with the switch to systemd. Try to reboot while holding left shift, that should give you a grub menu. Choose "advanced", and select a boot entry that contains the words "with upstart".11:46
xubducasse: i have already done that and it gives me a splash screen that remains freeze11:47
ducassexub: OK, can you switch to a virtual console with ctrl-alt-F2?11:48
=== azeam_afk is now known as azeam
xubducasse: you mean to press ctrl-alt-F2 while i'm to splash screen?11:53
ducassexub: while on the splash screen, yes. can you switch to a console, or is the whole machine frozen?11:53
xubducasse: the command just gives me a black screen11:55
xubno console11:55
ducassexub: what about the other F-keys? no consoles there either?11:56
xubducasse: the same with other F-keys, no result11:58
xubducasse: shoule i use a live cd?11:58
xub*should11:58
ducassexub: you can, and then mount the root file system. try to chroot into it, and clean up. but it's probably necessary to backup, reinstall and restore...11:59
xubducasse: ok, thanks12:00
ducassexub: you haven't run the upgrade scripts that take care of the transition from sysv to systemd, so it looks like init is broken.12:00
ducassexub: but 15.10 comes tomorrow, so you might as well get a nighly build and install that :)12:01
xubok ducasse , it's not so far tommorow so i will be patient, thanks again12:02
