diploMorning all08:05
zmoylan-pio/08:07
bigcalmGood morning peeps :)09:33
moreatiA sanity check. Has _your_ Ubuntu laptop ever switched audio playback from internal speakers when you plugged in e.g. USB speakers/headphones?09:34
moreatiI struggling to get a straight answer from Google over whether that's a feature Ubuntu supports09:35
zmoylan-pimy laptop has sound?! :-)09:37
TwistedLuciditymoreati: I can't say I've ever actually tired. Might be a hardware thing. Which laptop/model?09:49
TwistedLucidityJust tried my Kubuntu desktop, it switches from speakers to headphones automagically, and that's with a (spit) Creative Labs card installed.09:52
TwistedLucidityCan't think why a lappy would be any different09:53
brobostigonmorning boys and girls.09:59
JamesTaitGood morning all; happy Thursday, and happy Internet Day! 😃10:00
zmoylan-piisn't every day internet day?10:01
JamesTaitAlso, happy Cat Day.  Totally coincidental, I'm sure.10:01
zmoylan-pino no happy cat day conincides with laser pointer day... :-)10:02

MyrttiI wonder how much the sales of mini amplifiers has risen since the launch of Chromecast Audio10:24
moreatiGood point by TwistedLucidity. I hadn't thought of speaker <-> headphones. Plugging in works: audio is rerouted from internal speakers -> headphones10:47
moreatiUnplugging doesn't have the desired effect: audio is rerouted from headphones to S/PDIF out.10:48
moreatiThink I'm starting to find the edge pieces of this problem, thank you all10:52

awilkinsmoreati, Last time I had a problem like that, I had to patch a kernel driver11:47
awilkinsIt was a problem in the "patch panel" code11:47
awilkinsBut I don't know where replugs are handled11:48
moreatiawilkins: noted, thank you. I'll dig into when I have a dull afternoon.11:48
moreatiditto, expect it's a rabbit warren of libraries and abstrction layers11:49

diddledan_I managed to resurrect a bricked motherboard today \o/20:24
diddledan_it was dead due to a botched bios upgrade20:24
daftykins\o/20:25
daftykinsis it still rubbish and old? ;)20:25
diddledan_lol20:25
daftykinsin those situations can you not do the hotswap trick?20:25
daftykinsboot a good system, throw it in, force a flash of the other ones BIOS20:25
diddledan_it's the most forward-looking of my boards with an EFI vs BIOS in all my others20:25
daftykinsthe hybrid thing directhex said to kill with fire?20:26
diddledan_nah, this one is a real one20:26
diddledan_I was running the hybrid thing in bios-only mode because this board was dead20:26
diddledan_I finally got around to figuring out how to use an SPI cable to reblow the chip from a different system20:27
daftykins\o/ did it look like a proper jerry rigged setup? :>20:28
diddledan_yup20:28
diddledan_cables dangling all over the shop20:28
diddledan_the cable I bought had the wrong-size connectors and everything20:28
daftykinsdooooh20:29
diddledan_so I had four of the wrong-size for data and some extensions that I connected combined with a couple jumpers20:29
diddledan_it was fragile to say the least - one slight jog and it would have all come apart20:30
diddledan_I was holding my breath until the flashrom program said it was verified20:30
diddledan_I daren't have moved!20:30
daftykinsXD20:31
diddledan_strangely my windows install is still activated despite the swapping to the different mobo (now that the mobo works I replaced the one I had running)20:33
daftykinsgive it time ;)20:34
diddledan_lol20:34
diddledan_yeah I'm expecting it to moan sooner or later20:34
diddledan_perhaps it's waiting until halloween before it moans?20:34
diddledan_I'll wake up in the night to my computer moaning at me20:35
diddledan_scary!20:35
daftykins:)20:35
diddledan_there's nothing scarier than a windows possessed :-p20:35
daftykinshmm, xbone streaming Halo 5 now hits 18Mb of throughput21:31
daftykinshighest i've seen21:31

diddledan_ergh, that was a pain... protip, when installing a fancy cpu cooler, read the instructions before you apply the thermal compound. and also watch where those fat fingers wander after the compound is applied - I had to get a load off of my forehead22:05
diddledan_in unrelated news, my pc is quiet now22:05
diddledan_now. what windows prog can tell me my temperature?22:06
diddledan_cpu is current at about 25C22:10
daftykinsXD22:14
daftykinsdiddledan_: www.alcpu.com/CoreTemp/22:14
diddledan_I went with openhardwaremonitor22:14
daftykinsbe sure to click 'More DOwnloads' at the top else it'll be full of gubbins22:14
daftykinsthis one's good as it reads the on-die thermy thingy ;)22:14
diddledan_thermite?22:15
daftykins:D22:15
