GlamdringI'm trying to write Lubuntu 15.10 amd64 to a disk, but it seems like the .iso won't fit on a CD. Am I doing something wrong, or is that actually the case?22:47
wxlGlamdring: 744M is a bit oversized. will go on a DVD for sure.22:49
GlamdringAck. I can't afford writeable DVDs.22:49
wxlGlamdring: the alternate is 656M, though. you could do that.22:49
GlamdringNoted, thanks.22:49
Glamdringwxl: Any idea why it's now too big for CDs?22:49
wxlGlamdring: there are otherways you might be able to do it. let me dig up that page22:49
wxlGlamdring: we've tried to keep it cd sized with much difficulty over the years. other things add up. it kind of just is.22:50
wxlGlamdring: suffice it to say, it's not the fault of LXDE.22:50
* Glamdring nods.22:50
GlamdringSo the front has, for the time being, collapsed.22:51
wxlhm?22:51
GlamdringThe front line against the size increase.22:51
wxlnaw, we're always pushing against it22:51
GlamdringI was aware it was something of a battle.22:51
wxlit's not really a "battle," per se, as there aren't "sides"22:51
GlamdringFair enough.22:51
GlamdringThe Alternate should suffice as a boot disk if it gets all the lappy's hardware running and I can hook it up to the network, right?22:54
wxlGlamdring: well there's no live component. if you want a rescue disk, i'd recommend finnix, personally.22:54
GlamdringOof.22:54
wxlGlamdring: if you're really friendly with the command line, you can make the alternate work for your purposes, but it's not as easy.22:55
GlamdringI wish I were friendlier with it.22:55
GlamdringI can follow instructions well enough, but if something deviates from expectation, I'm apt to get rather lost.22:55
wxlhahahahah "apt" i see what you did there22:55
GlamdringI didn't even think about it!22:56
Glamdring(Though, all else fails, I could always just sudo apt-get install irssi and try to get help.)22:56
wxltrue22:56
wxlthe hardest part is getting the networking going22:56
wxlone thing that's nice about finnix is it's super easy22:56
GlamdringBah. Darn.22:56
wxlit's debian based, but close enough22:56
GlamdringSay. Here's a though. If I have a 14.10 disk, that'll do half the job, right? Is it easy to install a more recent version from there?22:57
wxlbrb22:57
Glamdring(Here's a thought, not a though. Why do I do tha?)22:57
ianorlinGlamdring: if you have a usb stick you could make a plop boot cd and then install from usb if your comp doesn't boot from usb natively but I don't know the whole scrollback22:58
GlamdringSadly, I obtain and lose approximately one USB stick a year.22:58
GlamdringVery good point about the plot boot CD, though. I probably have one laying around.22:59
GlamdringAnd if I don't, I bloody well should.22:59
