[05:42] morning all [06:39] good morning [11:47] hi dekr4ken [11:47] welcome to ubuntu-za [12:01] hi hi [12:01] testing out weechat, still getting use to it [14:57] Hello ooms and niggies [15:02] Hey kulelu88 [15:03] howzit? gremble [15:03] I am well thanks and yourself kulelu88? [15:04] I'm good. long time no see gremble [15:05] I have been housesitting for the last two weeks at places that don't have internet [15:08] in die bosveld? [15:08] Nope [15:08] I am staying in Montana until Tuesday [15:08] and the other was a plot where Nkwe is, out on Lynnwood road [15:10] Where is Montana? Near where exactly? [15:10] hi kulelu88 gremble [15:11] Hey oom Kilos [15:13] Hey Kilos [15:13] Hmm kulelu88 Do you know where the Kolonnade centre is? [15:14] yep, around there? I would do a maps search, but the human element of typed-conversation is more valuable :D [15:14] Yes. Staying about 1km from there [15:14] South East, against the hill [15:15] Pretoria is so big that I think most Pretorians have not seen the entire city [15:15] Probably doubly true for people from jhb [15:15] I know the north of Pretoria the least well [15:16] And perhaps the silverton area [15:16] sup gremble, kulelu88, Kilos [15:16] I don't know that Kolonnade area too well. It is like the 'heart' of Afrikaaner territory [15:16] Hey superfly [15:16] ohi superfly [15:16] yo superfly [15:16] kulelu88: Not a fan of it there, but these people pay quite well to look after their dogs [15:17] so who's coming to DebConf next year? [15:17] 10 rand says they've gone to capetown/australia for holiday [15:17] I am [15:17] \o/ [15:17] it will be shit cold [15:17] hahaha [15:18] not too bad, just be prepared for constant wet [15:18] Will I need a car? I'm not too keen on driving or ubering [15:19] Depends... we've arranged with UCT for using the some of the residences for accommodation [15:19] in which case, you'll be right there. [15:20] oh that's awesome [15:20] similar to what they did for euro pycon in Bilbao [15:20] but if you need to go anywhere, you'll need to find transport. The train line is quite close (about 10-20 minutes walk) [15:20] and there are plenty of taxis and busses too [15:21] if you can get into Town (aka CBD) then the MyCiti bus is brilliant for getting around [15:22] isn't UCT not too far from the CBD? [15:22] public transport in Cape Town is fairly decent. not as awesome as European cities, but better than Joburg AFAIK [15:22] no, about 10 minutes by train [15:23] some say CPT is small Europe (unless you go behind the mountain) [15:23] so yes [15:24] are there any interesting startups in CPT doing things with Python? superfly [15:24] kulelu88: well, there's Nomanini ;-) [15:24] aah yes, but +100 employees is no longer a startup :D [15:24] But also a few others [15:25] kulelu88: we're the biggest we've ever been now... we're 14 people [15:26] aah. how is your work-life balance though? [15:26] sorry, 16 [15:26] it's pretty good. [15:27] sometimes you need to push through to get stuff done [15:28] if you work somewhere where pay is decent but you work weekends and odd hours (that disrupts work-life), can it be considered worth it? [15:28] but I often don't work extra unless I want to, mostly because I have a family, and folks understand that I can't spend all my time at work. [15:28] no. [15:29] for me, pay is the last thing on my list. there are other things which are far more important [15:30] hey gremble there was a haskell user here the other day [15:30] i forget who now [15:30] Haha Did he teach you anything interesting? [15:31] no he saw something about it in our trello [15:31] Oh alright [15:31] he starting a trello for the lug in kenya [15:31] i think he was hoping to find someone here that uses it as well [15:32] Oh okay [15:32] Perhaps I'll run into him when I'm back home again [15:32] hopefully i twig, when he comes online and then point him to you [15:33] i think he is taking over the lug from stickyboy [15:33] or taken over [15:33] you guys attending/attended the LUG year-end braai? [15:33] Maaz seen stickyboy [15:33] Kilos: stickyboy was last seen 1 month, 15 days, 21 hours, 45 minutes and 1 second ago in #ubuntu-za on freenode [2015-11-04 09:48:54 PST], and has been offline on freenode since 2015-11-04 18:38:30 PST [15:35] What does it mean to twig? [15:35] good question ^^ I want to know as well [15:36] What if Kilos is actually gangsta and we didn't know it?! [15:36] twig=ctach on or remember [15:36] catch [15:37] let me show you Kilos old surf bra [15:37] haha what? [15:38] im too old to be gangsta [15:38] check this youtube video. watch all 4 parts: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nSyFHXLXArs :D [15:38] Kilos: daai oom in die sunglasses is jou ou bra :D [15:39] how big is that video [15:39] 6 minutes [15:39] ok ill look [15:39] its like a documentary of durban [15:41] ouch 110 meg [15:46] ai! [15:46] we used to call that type punks on planks [15:54] you must use lowest format settings oom. set it to 240p [15:55] i normally only get songs from youtube without the video [15:56] oh those single picture videos [15:56] nono you use youtube-dl -f 140 and only get the song [15:58] they arrive in home in .m4a format [15:58] whatever that is [16:01] interesting [16:17] ha hilton gibson joined ubuntu-africa [16:17] yay [16:52] feels like storm brewing [16:52] lekker cool wind [16:55] in muizenberg it's always windy, so you have to actually look at the sky to tell if a storm is coming :-P [16:56] it rained here also [17:06] lol [17:07] after a hot day here when a sudden cool wind comes up strong it normally means a storm coming [17:07] still waiting for water to fall [17:16] uh oh! [17:16] good morning everyone [17:17] hi there inetpro [17:17] where are you? [17:17] Kilos: strong winds starting to blow now... neighbouring transformer just went puff as well [17:17] ai! I'm wondering how you and Kilos keep having electricity issues whenever there are storms [17:38] we bot maplotters superfly [17:38] both [18:02] and the power peeps dont cut trees near power lines unless you complain [19:11] * inetpro halfway back [19:12] Kilos: gaan slaap [19:12] geen reën vanaand [19:13] ian besig op foon met kde op flash [19:15] inetpro whats halfway back === ian is now known as Wolfeyes_is [19:26] sjoe [19:26] Evening everyone. [19:30] thought you waiting for me to get back [19:30] :-) [19:31] nono man i thought maybe power half way [19:31] damn hot today [19:31] very [19:31] very [19:32] ian needs help setting up arno i think [19:32] he has this setup server with onboard and pci networking [19:33] all working as far as i gather but needs to know how to aloow some pcs to use the web and others not [19:34] s/aloow/allow [19:34] i need to sleep [19:34] night all . sleep tight [19:34] night dad [19:35] night boy [19:35] night inetpro [19:36] and every other lurker [19:42] I have a server with trusty server loaded on, and I am busy with Anro's iptables firewall install, now my setup is: 1. Router with internet, being connected to 2.server onboard network card, then a network cable coming back out of the server from the 3. pci network card and that goes to the 4. netowrk computers, which leads to my question of setting up arnos firewall, it asks for eth? cards names and I could be wrong, but I am assuming this is eth0, but [19:42] my question is do I have to put the eth1 for the pci card as well or doesn't it matter?
