SebastianTCLthis is ridiculous00:35
SebastianTCLevery time i log in either the sound nor the microphone goes away00:35
SebastianTCLi already got pulse audio00:35
SebastianTCLit doesnt work00:35
RoadRunnerCan't test and install Linux images from live USB's on one of my comps.  Get "Boot error" right after BIOS's POST.  But the same live USB's work OK on another comp.  Tried diff physical flash sticks, diff images (ubuntu, kubuntu, lubuntu).  Diff writing apps (Unetbootin and Universal USB installer). Reformatted a test ubuntu partition and renewed the boot sector from an older WinXP image (dual boot system).  Insured USB should boot 1s01:17
RoadRunnert in BIOS, but when trying to boot into a usb - the result on that box is always the same: "Boot error".  Any suggestions?01:18
adueppenOn the topic of LXQt, would anyone here know what package handles the main desktop? I'm doing some QA and want to know where to report a bug.02:27
Unit193As in, icons and background?  pcmanfm-qt isn't it?  Try killing that and see? :P  (ps aux | grep pcman  see if it has --no-desktop or somesuch thing.)02:28
adueppenUnit193: it also seems to be affecting the mouse cursor as well, so would that still be pcmanfm-qt?02:29
adueppenUnit193: never mind, found the bug on pcmanfm-qt02:38
Unit193Ah, nice!02:40
Mdxxxdoes anyone know a good startup disk creator replacement?04:53
Unit193dd?04:53
SebastianTCLcan someone help me make a small partition from within lubuntu for a parallel distro i want to dualboot alongside lubuntu?04:56
SebastianTCLsomething weird is happening05:33
SebastianTCLtwo times now it has logged me out05:33
SebastianTCLwith a cli shoing at the top05:33
SebastianTCLlight display manager has been started and then ok in yellow05:33
SebastianTCLthen it logs me out and i have to log back in05:33
SebastianTCLwhy is that?05:33
SebastianTCLit seems to be vlc that triggers it05:34
SebastianTCLi have hexchat, transmission, chrome, and vlc open05:36
SebastianTCLwhen i resume the video i am playing it kicks me out05:36
SebastianTCLlogs me out05:36
SebastianTCLthree times now upon playing vlc it logs me out05:39
SebastianTCLto a cli with started light window manager05:39
SebastianTCLthen i have to log again and all the apps are closed05:39
tachibanahi06:01
SebastianTCLanyone can help me modify grub to add an entry to the configuration file?08:54
Kamilionperhaps09:08
SebastianTCLI did a clean install from libecd09:09
SebastianTCLlivecd09:09
SebastianTCLand i cannot find a normal grub config file09:09
SebastianTCLto copy a menuentry09:09
Kamilionwhat do you mean by normal09:09
Kamilion/boot/grub/grub.cfg works fine for me?09:09
SebastianTCLlike the one in gnome/ubuntu09:09
SebastianTCLif what you say is so then is hould be able to run sudo leafpad /boot/grub/grub.cfg09:10
Kamilionbut that's built by /etc/grub.d/ snippets during update-grub09:10
Kamilionif you want to make CHANGES, that's the right place.09:10
Kamilionsomething like /etc/grub.d/40_custom or /etc/grub.d/41_custom09:11
SebastianTCLKamilton09:11
SebastianTCLplease take a look at http://pastebin.com/mNSC4JEb09:11
Kamilionthen running update-grub will do the right thing instead of scribbling over your changes every time.09:11
Kamilionyes, I know what a generated grub.cfg looks like.09:11
KamilionLine two is "DO NOT EDIT THIS FILE"09:12
SebastianTCLnow09:12
SebastianTCLthe entry i want to add is in this folder /home/nemo/tcl/boot09:12
SebastianTCLit's an extracted image of tinycorelinux09:12
Kamilionk.09:13
SebastianTCLthe file is vmlinuz for some reason on properties it appears as a dos windows executable09:13
Kamilionedit /etc/grub.d/40_custom, include the entry you need there.09:13
Kamilionrun update-grub as root to regenerate the config file in /boot/grub/09:13
Kamiliondo you know the right setup to do loopback mounting to get AT /home/nemo/tcl/boot/ ?09:14
SebastianTCLno, thats precisely the issue09:14
Kamilionyou might find some help looking over some of my entries.09:15
Kamilionhttps://github.com/kamilion/kamikazi-core/blob/master/resources/buildscripts/xengrub.cfg09:15
SebastianTCLthx i will take a look09:15
Kamilionyou'll need to use the 'loopback loop' function09:16
SebastianTCLwhat is that?09:16
Kamiliontelling grub to mount a file on a volume as a device.09:17
Kamilionlike mounting an iso from a different filesystem.09:17
SebastianTCLhmm i think tinycore doesnt use initrd just vmlinuz09:17
Kamilionit's just a kernel file?09:17
SebastianTCLyes09:17
Kamilioneasy enough then09:17
Kamilionput the file in /boot/09:17
SebastianTCLan entry will still be needed though no?09:18
Kamilionyeah, typing it out, sec09:18
SebastianTCLso i think a menuentry onmine looks like this http://paste.ubuntu.com/14160672/09:20
Kamilionyeah, just copy that to the end of 40_custom09:21
Kamilionremove the initrd line09:21
Kamilionand replace the linux line with something like09:21
Kamilionlinux /boot/tclvmlinuz console=tty0 noprompt libata.ignore_hpa=1 nodmraid raid=noautodetect ip=frommedia --09:21
SebastianTCLit doesnt let me paste the file onto /boot09:22
SebastianTCLit says permission denied09:22
Kamilionyou own the machine or not?09:22
SebastianTCLyess09:22
Kamilionk, can just as easily change the path I just printed above09:22
Kamilionor copy the file as root somehow (using sudo or something)09:22
SebastianTCLok one moment09:22
Kamilionlinux /home/nemo/tcl/boot/tclvmlinuz console=tty0 noprompt libata.ignore_hpa=1 nodmraid raid=noautodetect ip=frommedia --09:23
Kamilionyou'll still need to be root to edit /etc/grub.d/40_custom09:23
Kamilionand again, root will be needed to run 'update-grub' correctly.09:23
SebastianTCLok i pasted "vmlinuz" onto the /boot folder using sudo pcmanfm09:23
SebastianTCLlet me take a look at your link now09:24
Kamilionmight wanna rename it09:24
SebastianTCLwhy?09:24
Kamilionto tclvmlinuz or something09:24
Kamilion"vmlinuz" is a file that might get deleted accidentally by a script09:24
SebastianTCLok09:24
Kamilionchanging the first few characters ensures this won't happen automatically09:24
SebastianTCLone moment please09:24
SebastianTCLok i renamed it to tclvmlinuz09:25
Kamilionso you'll need to give the tcl kernel some boot parameters09:25
Kamilionlinux /boot/tclvmlinuz console=tty0 noprompt libata.ignore_hpa=1 nodmraid raid=noautodetect ip=frommedia --09:26
KamilionIn this example, console=tty0 noprompt libata.ignore_hpa=1 nodmraid raid=noautodetect ip=frommedia --09:26
SebastianTCLhow do i know which specific parameters i should use?09:26
SebastianTCLi dont want to mess up my boot sequence09:26
SebastianTCLplease bear with me09:26
Kamilion"use the VGA console, ignore host protected areas on disks, don't use dmraid, don't autodetect raid devices" is what that one says.09:26
Kamilionthe first two are actually telling the kernel something09:27
Kamilionthe second two are ignored by the kernel and only used by the init scripts (in this case, ubuntu's)09:27
Kamilionsince TCL is so far out of date, I don't really know about running it anymore09:27
KamilionI forgot a year ago at least, lol09:28
Kamilionoh wait, wikipedia says it's up to date...09:28
Kamilionmaybe I'm mistaking it for another tiny distro like it09:28
SebastianTCLhttp://paste.ubuntu.com/14160778/09:29
SebastianTCLlike that?09:29
Kamilionremove the root= line09:30
Kamilioner, option09:30
SebastianTCLnow something that worries me is that after i changed the name of the file the icon has changed to one of those blank with a bolt in the middle icons09:30
Kamiliontcl should have it's own root filesystems09:30
Kamilionbuilt into the initramfs image on the end of the kernel09:30
Kamilionah, i think i mistook tinycorelinux for damnsmalllinux09:31
SebastianTCLhttp://paste.ubuntu.com/14160807/09:31
SebastianTCL?09:31
Kamilionthat looks pretty close.09:32
KamilionAre you sure this is just a single kernel file?09:32
KamilionI'm used to it from openwrt xen domu builds09:32
Kamilionwhere the 2MB jffs filesystem is just concatinated to the end of the kernel image09:32
Kamilionbut from the documentation on http://tinycorelinux.net/ it makes reference to a root filesystem09:32
SebastianTCLlooking at http://forum.tinycorelinux.net/index.php?topic=13501.009:33
SebastianTCLhttp://tinycorelinux.net/6.x/x86/release/CorePlus-current.iso09:33
SebastianTCLthat's the image i extracted09:33
Kamilionuhh09:33
Kamilion... whoa09:33
Kamiliondoing it waaay wrong then09:33
Kamilioncopy the whole ISO file to /boot09:33
Kamiliondon't pull out the kernel image, lol09:34
SebastianTCLplease explain, are you telling me not to extract it?09:34
Kamilionwhere's it say to extract anything? LOL!09:34
Kamilioni boot ISO files with grub all the time!09:35
SebastianTCLbut i want to be able to access my files/partition and install the persistent apps09:35
SebastianTCLwhen i run boot up09:35
Kamilionyeah, and?09:35
Kamilionhttps://github.com/kamilion/kamikazi-core09:35
KamilionI do that just fine.09:36
Kamilionfrom a 850MB ISO file.09:36
KamilionI boot lubuntu the way they're showing you how to boot TCL09:36
SebastianTCLok then give me one moment09:36
Kamilionand I can mount all my data partitions just fine once it's finished starting up09:36
Kamilionall you have to do is tell it how to get started09:37
Kamilionso yeah, copy the iso into /boot/09:37
SebastianTCLCorePlus-current.iso has been pasted onto /boot09:37
Kamilionso you have /boot/CorePlus-current.iso09:37
SebastianTCLhttp://paste.ubuntu.com/14160902/09:38
SebastianTCLline 709:38
Kamilionsec09:39
Kamilionmaking a paste for you09:39
KamilionSebastianTCL: http://hastebin.com/oqalaxasit.vbs09:39
Kamilionusing the options as shown from http://forum.tinycorelinux.net/index.php/topic,13501.msg78410.html?PHPSESSID=ySzuMJmABmJDq5y3RyqGs1#msg7841009:39
Kamilionreplace ADDMOREHERE with any other kernel options you need09:40
Kamilionthe -- indicates "I'm done"09:40
Kamilionit's literally THAT easy to boot ISOs. :)09:40
KamilionI had to go get the ISO to look at what the filenames were inside it09:41
Kamilionbut I didn't need to extract it09:41
KamilionI just opened it with file-roller09:41
SebastianTCLI am sorry, pleae excuse me Kamilion i am a noob here, how do you mean any other kernel options i need? i only want to have tcl and lubuntu on dual so09:41
KamilionSebastianTCL: lol09:41
KamilionI don't need any special kernel options myself, I have well-supported hardware09:42
Kamilionbut some examples would be09:42
Kamilionlibata.ignore_hpa=109:42
SebastianTCLis there a way for me to check whether i need to do that?09:42
Kamilionthat is specifically a kernel option09:42
Kamilionnow, here's some interesting information09:42
SebastianTCLhere http://pastebin.com/mNSC4JEb09:43
Kamilionif you pass anything the kernel doesn't know on that line, it simply ignores it09:43
Kamilionso you could put in cats=ilovedogs09:43
Kamilionit wouldn't DO anything09:43
Kamilionbut later on09:43
Kamilionwhen it's running09:43
Kamilionyou can look at /proc/cmdline09:43
SebastianTCLcan you help me open up my grub.cfg file again09:43
Kamilionand you'll see all of those extra options -- which means, scripts can look at those. AND THEY DO.09:43
SebastianTCLhttp://paste.ubuntu.com/14160974/09:44
Kamilionso, it really depends more on the scripts that are trying to read information from the kernel commandline09:44
SebastianTCLthat's my current cfg file09:44
Kamilionwhich is totally meaningless09:44
Kamilionother than I see you have not yet run update-grub with your changes in /etc/grub.d/40_custom09:44
SebastianTCLwait09:45
SebastianTCLi didnt add the entry yet because i got confused with the other kernel options comment09:45
SebastianTCLand i didnt want to f--- up anything09:45
Kamilionthe whole point of using the /etc/grub.d/40_custom file is so the protections in update-grub don't ALLOW you to f--- up anything.09:46
Kamilionit will warn you if the configuration is invalid09:46
Kamilionit will NOT warn you if the configuration IS VALID, but stupid.09:46
SebastianTCLoh ok09:47
Kamilionthere's a difference between something being valid, and actually being parsed into making sense09:47
SebastianTCLhow do i open the 40_custom custom file from the terminal, i am on lubuntu so gedit doesnt work09:47
Kamiliongksudo leafpad /etc/grub.d/40_custom09:47
Kamilionor apt-get install gedit (which is what I do)09:47
SebastianTCLok09:48
Kamilionif it complains you don't have gksudo09:48
Kamilionyou'll have to apt-get install it09:48
SebastianTCLi show this http://paste.ubuntu.com/14161038/09:48
Kamilionbut it should be there09:48
Kamilionyep09:49
SebastianTCLplease tell me exactly how i should modify it09:49
Kamilionhttp://hastebin.com/oqalaxasit.vbs09:49
Kamilionadd this to the end09:49
Kamiliondon't disturb the existing contents.09:49
Kamilioner sec09:49
Kamilionhttp://hastebin.com/ozovivalus.vbs09:49
SebastianTCLlike this http://paste.ubuntu.com/14161055/09:49
SebastianTCL?09:49
Kamilionyep!09:50
Kamilionyou can paste as many more as you want on the end of that09:50
Kamilionif you want to try different things09:50
SebastianTCLdo i delete the addmorehere line?09:50
Kamilionjust make sure you don't forget the closing } on each one09:50
SebastianTCLor just save it?09:50
Kamiliongo into that line09:50
Kamilionand backspace over ADDMOREHERE and nodhcp09:51
SebastianTCLok09:51
Kamilionnodhcp is the option that tells it not to get an IP address from a router09:51
Kamilionwhich I assume, you probably want it to get an IP address09:51
SebastianTCLnow: http://paste.ubuntu.com/14161073/09:51
Kamilionthere's a LOT of little options like 'nodhcp'09:51
Kamilionwhen you figure out IF you need any09:52
Kamilionthen you type them in where "ADDMOREHERE" was, before the --09:52
SebastianTCLso i save it like this: http://paste.ubuntu.com/14161073/ ?09:52
Kamilionso, are you understanding that I was using that as a placeholder?09:52
Kamilionyep09:52
Kamilionlooks good09:52
SebastianTCLok one moment please09:52
Kamilionover time you'll discover more options to add09:52
SebastianTCLsaved09:52
Kamilionjust keep in mind where you're supposed to add them09:53
Kamilionif you add them after -- they will be ignored :)09:53
SebastianTCLnow from what i understand there's another file that requires some modification to the comments like taking away dashes ## so that grub will list the options to boot from09:53
Kamilionnope!09:53
Kamilionthat's it.09:53
Kamilionsave the file09:53
Kamilionopen a terminal09:53
Kamilionsudo grub-update09:53
Kamilionand you should see it tell you it included 40_custom at the end of it.09:53
SebastianTCLcomand not found09:54
Kamilionwhoops09:54
SebastianTCLhttp://paste.ubuntu.com/14161073/09:54
Kamilionlol09:54
Kamilionsudo update-grub09:54
SebastianTCLer09:54
Kamilionmy mistake09:54
SebastianTCLhttp://paste.ubuntu.com/14161120/09:55
Kamilionnow pastebin /boot/grub/grub.cfg09:55
Kamilionand you should see your entry at the end!09:55
SebastianTCLKamilion, http://paste.ubuntu.com/14161130/09:56
Kamilionmight wanna add a blank line at the end of /etc/grub.d/40_custom09:56
Kamilionthen run that again09:56
Kamilionbut yeah, looks good.09:57
SebastianTCLone moment please09:57
Kamilionnow, as for grub SHOWING you the menu...09:57
Kamilionyou'll have to09:57
Kamiliongksudo leafpad /etc/default/grub09:57
SebastianTCLhttp://paste.ubuntu.com/14161145/09:57
Kamilionthen read the configuration options within09:58
SebastianTCLis that better?09:58
KamilionI don't see any difference, so maybe it's ignoring blank lines by itself. Wouldn't suprise me.09:58
SebastianTCLok let me make pause here to tell you something09:59
Kamilionthe configuration options in /etc/default/grub are easy to understand if you take a moment to read them.09:59
SebastianTCLin this oddysey10:00
SebastianTCLi installed this app http://www.linuxandubuntu.com/home/how-to-change-boot-order-set-default-boot-os-in-ubuntu-14-10-15-04-linux-mint-or-other-derivatives10:00
Kamilionhowever, the only one you should probably have to change is 'GRUB_TIMEOUT"10:00
Kamilionas long as it is not 0, the menu will be displayed10:00
KamilionI like to set it to 1010:00
SebastianTCLso youre telling me it should all work fine by now and that if i open that program it will show me the tlc entry?10:00
KamilionIF you can get the menu to show!10:01
Kamilionwhich, in normal mode, it hides the menu10:01
Kamilionto change that behavior, you need to change an option in /etc/default/grub10:01
SebastianTCLhow?10:01
KamilionGRUB_TIMEOUT is the name of the option10:01
SebastianTCLgrub customizer does show the tinycore entry10:01
SebastianTCLok please tell me exactly how to modify this file10:02
Kamiliongksudo leafpad /etc/default/grub10:02
SebastianTCLsudo leafpad10:02
Kamilionsure10:02
Kamilionjust make sure GRUB_TIMEOUT is NOT 010:02
Kamilionif it is 010:02
Kamilionput a 1 in front so it's GRUB_TIMEOUT=1010:02
Kamilionthen save the file.10:02
Kamilionthat's it.10:02
Kamilionnow you must run 'sudo update-grub' one more time10:03
SebastianTCLhttp://paste.ubuntu.com/14161204/10:03
Kamilionyep.10:03
SebastianTCLlike this http://paste.ubuntu.com/14161220/ ?10:03
Kamilionas it says in line 110:03
Kamilion# If you change this file, run 'update-grub' afterwards to update /boot/grub/grub.cfg.10:04
KamilionNo, GRUB_TIMEOUT10:04
Kamilionnot GRUB_HIDDEN_TIMEOUT10:04
Kamilionyou just hid the menu again!10:04
SebastianTCLi just undid10:05
SebastianTCLone moment10:05
Kamilionwhen GRUB_TIMEOUT is equal to GRUB_HIDDEN_TIMEOUT, the menu will be hidden, okay?10:05
Kamilion(but the timer will still count)10:05
Kamilionyour first one was fine10:05
SebastianTCLthus http://paste.ubuntu.com/14161246/ ?10:05
Kamilionlooks okay to me.10:06
Kamilionyes.10:06
Kamilionnow you must run sudo update-grub10:06
Kamilionafter that, you should see the menu entry at the bottom of the list in grub, and it should start up tiny core10:06
SebastianTCLhttp://paste.ubuntu.com/14161265/10:07
Kamilionyep! just ignore the warning it prints.10:07
Kamilionit is harmless.10:08
Kamilion(if it was not harmless, it would have been Error: )10:08
SebastianTCLok so now if i reboot10:08
SebastianTCLi should be able to see it listed10:08
SebastianTCLas an option10:08
SebastianTCLright?10:08
Kamilionyeah, and it should work if you choose it.10:08
Kamilionc'mon back here and let me know how it goes.10:09
SebastianTCLok brb10:09
Kamilioni assume it has a webbrowser10:09
Kamilionso you can use freenode's webchat10:09
Kamilionwebchat.freenode.net/?channels=lubuntu10:10
SebastianTCLKamilion, didnt work10:15
SebastianTCLwent straight into lubuntu splash screen10:15
SebastianTCLtook a little while longer10:15
SebastianTCLbut it went into the lubuntu screen10:17
Kamilionhuh10:19
Kamilionno menu?10:19
Kamilionrun sudo update-grub once more10:20
KamilionAlso, you can hold shift during boot to force grub to show the menu.10:20
SebastianTCLok let me retry10:20
Kamiliononce you get the menu to show, it should be an easy ride10:21
sebtclKamilion, didnt work10:28
sebtclnow i am logged as guest10:28
sebtclif i log normally the mouse cursor wont move10:28
KamilionAhhhhhhh, fun with sudo.10:29
Kamilionroot owns something in your homedir now10:29
sebtcli also tried to ctrl f7 but it wouldnt10:29
sebtclwhat do i do_10:29
sebtcl?10:29
Kamilionopen a root terminal somehow10:29
Kamilionchown -R nemo:nemo /home/nemo/10:29
sebtclguest-A3ZNgG@ithaka:~$ chown -R nemo:nemo /home/nemo/10:30
sebtclchown: cannot read directory ‘/home/nemo/’: Permission denied10:30
Kamilioncan ctrl-alt-f1, login as nemo, then sudo -s10:30
Kamilionshould get you to root, as I don't think guest is allowed sudo permissions10:30
sebtclplease come again10:30
Kamilionyou are not root10:30
Kamilionyou need to be root10:30
sebtcli get it but how do i do that again10:30
sebtclctrl alt f1 then what do i do_10:31
sebtclwhat will happen if i do that10:31
Kamilionsudo -s while being logged int as a user that has sudo permissions10:31
Kamilionthe user ubuntu's installer created will have them by default10:31
Kamilionit will switch to a text console10:31
Kamilionand present you with login:10:31
Kamilionwhere you type nemo10:31
Kamilionthen it asks for the password10:31
Kamilionyou type hunter2, or whatever your password is, I'll say hunter2 for the sake of arguement10:32
Kamilionit gives you a user prompt10:32
Kamilionyou type sudo -s10:32
Kamilionit asks you for nemo's password10:32
Kamilionyou type hunter210:32
Kamilionit gives you a root prompt10:32
Kamilionyou type chown -R nemo:nemo /home/nemo/10:32
Kamilionthen you ctrl-alt-f7 back to the graphical terminal the guest session is running on.10:33
sebtclpermission denied10:34
Kamilionhuh.10:34
Kamilionwhere, trying to sudo?10:34
sebtclok one moment please10:35
sebtclok10:35
sebtcli did it with sudo and then it gave me the prompt again10:35
sebtclnow what do i do10:35
Kamilionlog out of guest and try your own user account again10:36
Kamilionshould work this time.10:36
SebastianTCLKamilion, what happened?10:38
Kamilionyou probably used 'sudo' somewhere in a graphical terminal.10:38
Kamilioninstead of gksudo10:38
Kamilionwhich resulted in root owning one or more configuration files in your home directory.10:38
SebastianTCLhow can i rectify this?10:39
SebastianTCLand proceed with the grub stuff10:39
Kamilionyou already did10:39
Kamilionthat is what chown did10:40
SebastianTCLso if i reboot now it will list tlc_10:40
SebastianTCL?*10:40
Kamilionchanged the ownership of all the files, recursively, in your home directory, to be owned by the user nemo and the group nemo.10:40
Kamilionfixing the files owned by root10:40
Kamilionopen up lxterminal and 'gksudo update-grub'10:40
Kamilionthen reboot and start holding down shift when the bios comes up, and grub should show up.10:41
SebastianTCLbrb10:41
Kamiliongood luck..10:41
Kamilion(he's lucky I have a model linux in my head)10:42
sebastclKamilion, same thing happened10:44
sebastclnot listed10:44
sebastclif i login the mouse doesnt move10:45
sebastclso let me see if i get this correctly10:45
sebastclctrl alt f110:45
sebastclthen sudo chown -R nemo:nemo /home/nemo10:45
sebastcl?10:45

SebastianTCLKamilion, i follow you10:48
Kamilionwhatever's doing that is an old bug that I've fought with many times10:49
Kamilionthe easiest way I know how to cause it, is using 'sudo' while in lxterminal10:49
Kamilioninstead, anywhere that says 'sudo' in the instructions, replace it yourself with 'gksudo' if you're using lxterminal10:50
Kamilionwhich should stop that from happening10:50
SebastianTCLso what do i do now10:50
Kamilion(not being able to log in correctly)10:50
KamilionI don't know why grub's menu isn't showing, honestly.10:50
SebastianTCLlooking at http://askubuntu.com/questions/16042/how-to-get-to-the-grub-menu-at-boot-time10:52

Kamiliongksudo leafpad10:53
Kamilionopen up /etc/default/grub10:53
Kamilionmove down to the GRUB_HIDDEN_TIMEOUT=0 line10:53
Kamilionput a # at the beginning of it10:53
Kamilion#GRUB_HIDDEN_TIMEOUT=010:53
Kamilionsave the file.10:53
Kamiliongo back to lxterminal10:53
Kamiliongksudo update-grub10:53
SebastianTCLok10:54
Kamilion(the instructions say run sudo update-grub, which DOES work on some of the other desktops available -- just not lubuntu.)10:54
SebastianTCLdid that10:54
SebastianTCLthats done10:54
SebastianTCLshould it work now if i boot up?10:54
Kamiliondid the warning line go away when you ran update-grub?10:54
SebastianTCLwhich warning line?10:55
KamilionGenerating grub configuration file ...10:55
KamilionWarning: Setting GRUB_TIMEOUT to a non-zero value when GRUB_HIDDEN_TIMEOUT is set is no longer supported.10:55
Kamilion^ this one10:55
Kamilionit should not be there this time10:55
SebastianTCLnot there10:56

SebastianTCLoh youre right11:15
SebastianTCLKamilion, someone suggested I Change to GRUB_HIDDEN_TIMEOUT=0 and GRUB_HIDDEN_TIMEOUT_QUIET=false update-grub and retry11:19
Kamiliongrub_hidden_timeout is already commented out11:20
KamilionGRUB_HIDDEN_TIMEOUT_QUIET=false11:20

SebastianTCLsomeone suggested i do this11:32
SebastianTCLsudo grub-mkconfig11:32
SebastianTCLthoughts?11:32
SebastianTCLKamilion,11:35
Kamiliongrub-mkconfig is what update-grub runs.11:36
Kamilionso, yeah, nothing should change (lol)11:37
SebastianTCLKamilion, http://paste.ubuntu.com/14162088/11:39
SebastianTCLKamilion, if i undo what we have done will it go back to normal?11:42
Kamilionremoving the lines from /etc/grub.d/40_custom ? Yes.11:43
SebastianTCLok that is done11:44
SebastianTCLwhat about the other one11:44
SebastianTCLi brought it back to true11:45

SebastianTCLlet me reboot and see now11:45
SebastianTCLoh well11:47
SebastianTCL: /11:47
Kamilionsorry12:08
Kamilionwas busy in #lxde12:08
SebastianTCLnp12:09
Kamilionany luck getting it to work?12:11
KamilionI'm really confused, it's almost like you have a third linux installation controlling grub, not lubuntu.12:11
SebastianTCLit worked at restoring things back to normal12:17
SebastianTCLbut that was not the original idea12:17
Giles-BHello, I've just installed lubuntu on my parents computer and I have what perhaps could be described as screen tearing. (its not in video, things like the firefox search bar etc)15:48
Giles-BJust random screen artifacts.15:48
adueppenGiles-B: what graphics card is in it?15:49
Giles-BIntel 82G33/G3115:50
adueppenGiles-B: you might need to install the drivers from here: https://01.org/linuxgraphics/downloads15:52
Giles-B01.org?15:56
adueppenGiles-B: it's the Intel open source website15:56
Giles-BI will give it a go.15:57
Giles-Badueppen: Didn't seem very legit, but the website seems to be registered to intel.15:59
adueppenGiles-B: I found it linked from the Intel website, so it's definitely legit15:59
Giles-Badueppen: Right you are...Almost clicked that link earlier ;)16:00
adueppenGiles-B: also make sure that you have 15.10 as other releases don't seem to be supported16:01
Giles-BYou can never be too paranoid....well, actually you can.16:01
Giles-BIts a fresh install of 15.1016:02
Giles-BIts intalling the driver now.16:02
Giles-B_adueppen: Well, it seems "better", but its still doing it.16:06
adueppenGiles-B_: you might want to ask someone else then or ask in #ubuntu16:07
Giles-B_adueppen: Thanks for your help.16:08
adueppenGiles-B_: you16:08
adueppen're welcome16:08
Fireburner hi there. I just have a little question about pcmanfm settings. What exactely does the optopn_ mount mountable volumes automatically on start-up? Does it in any way alter fstab?18:38
redwolfFireburner, I never saw that tag anywhere O.o18:41
FireburnerPreferences -> Volume Management18:51
redwolfFireburner, this one? http://i.stack.imgur.com/ng6ly.png19:22
Fireburnerredwolf, yes; first one19:24
redwolfI think that options mounts existent disks, generated dynamically in fstab19:26
Fireburneras I understand this option, it mounts all partitions on pcmanfm startup, that are not already mounted through fstab. Is that true?19:26
redwolfyes19:26
redwolfif I don't use that option, my 2nd partition doesn't turn visible19:27
FireburnerO just do not have any unmounted partition, as all are mounted through fstab, but i was curious what this option will change19:27
redwolfin my laptop it does it, if I log out and in with it inactive, the 2nd partition is not mounted19:27
Fireburnernot visible in list on left, or not mounted?19:27
redwolfnot mounted, sorry19:27
redwolfvisible in places19:27
Fireburnerokay, thx19:28
redwolf:)19:28
redwolfit's what it does with my 2nd partition. I tested right now19:28
Fireburnerokay, good to know19:28
redwolf:)19:29
Fireburnerbut startup refers to pcmanfm startup and not DE startup, right?19:29
tonI switched to lubuntu and i've changed the desktop preference to show the window manager menu. How do i modify that menu ? (Preferably i'd like to insert a script to generate my own dynamic menu)19:30
redwolfDE startup19:31
redwolfor more desktop startup, and that's a library inside PCManFM, a component19:31
Fireburnerokay, I hope I didn't take too much time from you, for checking this ;)19:32
redwolfton, you did this? http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-HP1RP3yKo_g/USiUtFeZ6JI/AAAAAAAAAG0/h6i_8iBCvhY/s1600/snapshot-pcmanfm.png19:32
Fireburnerthx, redwolf19:32
redwolfdon't worry, Fireburner. I'm happy to help here, I'm part of the crew :)19:32
redwolfton, if you activated that option, it's openbox who handles the menu19:33
redwolfthey call those dynamic menus "pipe menus": http://openbox.org/wiki/Openbox:Pipemenus19:34
tonyes, i did. That gave me the right-click menu i like so much. just can't seem to find where to change the menu items :s19:34
redwolfjust google for "openbox pipe menus" and you'll see lots of menus, tutorials and scripts19:34
redwolfalso, you can read this amazing openbox guide: https://urukrama.wordpress.com/openbox-guide/#Menus19:35
tonthnx, i'll try that one19:37
redwolfnice :)19:38
tonrun into the same issue as before. apperantly it's not using  ~/.config/openbox/menu.xml to generate the right-click menu. The menu does not match the menu displayed19:44
ton(the file does not match menu displayed)19:46
redwolfLubuntu doesn't use that one, I think19:49
redwolftry to look for a Lubuntu named folder19:49
redwolfinside openbox config19:49
redwolfsorry, ton, I need to be away for a while19:49
wxlton: try looking in /etc/xdg?19:50
tonok, i'll have a look19:51
tonit's not /etc/xdg/openbox/menu.xml either. The file /usr/share/lubuntu/openbox/menu.xml is invoked somehow. that one is a part of the menu20:01
