[02:04] Hello? [02:04] I need a little help D: === Ariel_ is now known as Guest84371 [02:04] ask away :) [02:04] !ask [02:04] Please don't ask to ask a question, simply ask the question (all on ONE line and in the channel, so that others can read and follow it easily). If anyone knows the answer they will most likely reply. :-) See also !patience [02:04] Well [02:05] I'm Ariel [02:05] Sorry [02:05] Everytime I start my notebook (with Xubuntu 15.10) I get a message that says that a system program has crashed [02:05] I clicked on details just now and it shows that the program is called Xorg [02:06] Path: /usr/bin/Xorg [02:06] does your system otherwise start up ok? [02:06] Package: xserver-xorg-core 2:1.17.2-1ubuntu9.1 [02:06] Yes [02:06] look in this file: /etc/default/apport [02:06] you probably want it to have this line: enabled=0 [02:07] It does, it doesn't give me any trouble in the execution but I'm worried about it [02:07] if enabled=1, you can change it to 0 [02:07] (you'll need to use sudo) [02:07] this will stop those reporting dialogs from popping up when things crash [02:07] Enabled=1 [02:07] Oh, right... but the problem is not the message [02:07] I wouldn't be worried about it, one of my systems does it too, it recovers fine [02:08] Oh... well [02:08] apport generally shouldn't be on for a stable, running system, it's more for reporting bugs and things during development releases [02:08] But what is Xorg anyways? [02:08] Xorg is the graphical interface [02:08] I think it has something to do with Intel Graphics Updater [02:09] it's probably giving you an error about a driver or something [02:09] but I do strongly suggest turning off the over-aggressive apport and only debugging problems that cause actual issues [02:10] But if I disable that and other error happens [02:10] It will not show up? [02:10] it won't, but then you can debug it manually [02:10] you can still report bugs and get information about errors, it just won't bring up the development tool [02:12] the trouble with apport is that it's designed to be run when you're testing releases that are in development (daily dev images, alpha and beta) so it is pretty aggressive as to what triggers it so that devs can find problems before release [02:12] Oh, I get it [02:12] I'm a bit new to Linux yet [02:12] that's fine :) [02:13] So, how can I report bugs if nothing shows up? D: [02:14] on stable releases you only report problems that are actual problems, so, say, if firefox crashes there are ways to recreate the problem [02:14] there are also lots of system logs in /var/log/ that you can browse through, sometimes things in your home directory too [02:16] Oh man, there are a lot of errors from Steam in apport logs [02:17] yeah, you'll find that a lot with 3rd party software [02:17] [02:18] you can see Xorg logs in /var/log too, that's where you can dig up some stuff that apport may have sent off as a bug report [02:19] Well pleia2, thanks for your advice, I'm calm now [02:19] I've checked the Xorg logs, no errors apparently [02:19] you're welcome :) good luck [02:19] Only (WW) - warnings [02:19] But 0 errors [02:19] * pleia2 nods [02:20] * Guest84371 will play Dota 2 now [02:20] XD [02:20] enjoy [02:20] a [02:20] Thank you :) [02:20] I'll be back here if I have something else to ask XD [02:21] * Guest84371 adds to favs this page [02:21] Oh, and also... how was the process to register here? [02:21] I've used Irc before but I forgot [02:22] first you change your name to the nickname you want (looks like Ariel and Ariel_ are already taken) [02:22] like /nick Ariel2 === Guest84371 is now known as Arielucho [02:22] then /msg nickserv help register [02:22] which will give you the up to date instructions on how to register [02:23] Hey [02:23] I'm registered now [02:23] Cool :p [02:23] :) [02:23] * Arielucho leaves to play finally with a new nickname in the Xubuntu IRC channel [02:23] Bye! [02:42] !usb [02:42] For information about installing Ubuntu from USB flash drives, see https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Installation/FromUSBStick - For a persistent live USB install, see: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/LiveUsbPendrivePersistent === skribblezatcha is now known as pencilandpaper [06:10] Hey ~!~~~ [06:10] A gentleman in herre a few weeks ago introduced me to LinuX MINT. I can't remember his name. HELLO? Are you around? [07:52] help [07:52] tell me interesting things [07:52] about ubuntu [10:05] Hello, I would like to add the https://github.com/jgeboski/purple-facebook plug in. How do i do that? what do i have to enter in the fild for adding a new APT line? What is the command to install it afterwards? [11:43] http://m.webupd8.org/2015/08/use-facebook-chat-in-pidgin-with-purple.html?m=1 [12:41] hello! i'm installing xubuntu 15.10 on intel processor iMac but system seems not to detect wi-fi card. are there any problems with iMac wi-fi card? [15:29] Hey been trying to change a keybind via mykeydefs.lst, wanting to get "bar" but instead I get "gigolo", seems there's some xfce(?) shortcut overriding it. Anyone where this is? [15:29] "bar" as in the pipe symbol [18:40] 0_____o [18:40] 0___________________O [18:41] http://cs625127.vk.me/v625127437/366ae/1WVrzrJAEZ4.jpg [19:16] hmmmmmmmmm xubuntu installer isn't allowing me to partition the hdd into two so that one is for the OS and one for personal files and stuff... will I be able to do that later, if I choose LVM thing [20:13] hi [20:14] minor issue with xub 14.04.3, when I tell it to lock the screen, black screen with blinking cursor, end of the story. have to power off/on. any fix to that? [20:15] come to think thats not really a minor issue [20:18] Is this a fresh install? [20:18] afternoon everyone [20:21] can anyone point me in the right direction to configure the x11vncserver that apt-get installs? [20:21] Theres a bit of info here: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/VNC/Servers [20:22] but that's really minimal stuff [20:25] Yato: thanks, that's a start. The problem is that when I try to connect it wants the VNC password, but doesn't accept it. when I run the x11vncpasswd command, it will accept it, until next time. [20:26] Honestly, I won' [20:26] t be much help. [20:26] I'm not too familiar with VNC myself. [20:26] Yato: that's O.K. I wasn't expecting you to be. [20:26] That stuff is as far as I've ever done it :P [20:28] Try this: https://prismsoul.wordpress.com/2014/06/11/installing-and-configuring-x11vnc-on-ubuntu-14-04/ [20:28] It's a bit different way of doing the password [20:34] Any luck jilocasin0? [20:35] Yato: Found the files I need (I think) and I'm going through the available options ( http://www.karlrunge.com/x11vnc/x11vnc_opts.html ), there are a lot of them. [20:35] oh jeez... [20:46] Yato, fresh-ish. not really installed yesterday, but that the "laptop for surfing on the couch" so there didnt happen much on it yet [20:47] jilocasin0, x11vncserver or x11vnc by karl runge? [20:48] DexterF, do you have a dedicated GPU in that? [20:48] DexterF: installed x11vncserver (though I call it with x11vnc on the command line. [20:49] Yato, worse, nvidia optimus. so intel boots, nvidia should take over when needed (but does not, doesnt work) [20:49] oh dear... [20:49] My laptop is Optimus [20:49] I've given up trying to get it to work [20:49] So I have a "switcher" [20:50] jilocasin0, if desperate, Karl helped me out via email on some issues, auth, too. can find his mail @ on the web. nice fellow. [20:50] Yato, means? [20:50] http://www.webupd8.org/2014/01/prime-indicator-lets-you-quickly-switch.html [20:50] This thing [20:51] basically removes the whole Optimus thing from the equation. [20:51] which might be the problem here [20:51] (I can't see any other cause) [20:52] Yato, massive 3d is not a requirement here anyway. ill see if that fixes the lock issue [21:29] Yato, lock works on intel at least so that worksforme now, thanks [22:09] anyone be able to tell me how to change time using command line please and thank you [22:18] try sudo date -s "20:48" [22:28] ty\ [22:28] cheers
