[20:58] Hey, I am having problems with installing the Ubuntu desktop. Whenever I install it I cannot login. It will wait a few seconds, the screen will go black and it takes me back to the login screen [20:59] caden: sounds like the wrong video drivers? ist that image known to work? [20:59] no, i have xubuntu installed and it works just fine [21:00] who is the owner of the .XAuthority file in that users home? [21:00] .Xauthority [21:01] sorry, you will have to tell me how to do that. (i'm new to ubuntu) :) [21:01] "ls -al " in a terminal [21:01] what device is it? what ubuntu version? [21:02] my device is a raspberry pi 2b and it is runnning ubuntu mate and xubuntu 15.04 [21:03] oh and my x.org is configured [21:17] r u there? [21:18] who is ownerand group of that file? [21:19] the file doesnt seem to exist [21:20] so who is the owner of that users home? [21:20] me [21:20] there is only one user [21:21] i am quite sure xfce does need that file, too. [21:21] well i dont know what to tell yo [21:22] *you [21:25] my /etc /X11/xorg.conf exists and has text in it [21:26] its not about the x11 [21:27] well thats the video driver's config file [21:27] the desktop needs the .Xauthority file in the users home. [21:27] and that owner and group needs to be the user. [21:27] if you fiddel with sudo/root that can make that file be owned by root. and then you get exactly the effect, that you cant login anymore. [21:28] ok sorry the file DOES exist. i was looking i /home instead of my user's home [21:29] who is the owner? [21:29] how do i find that out [21:29] "ls -al" [21:29] i am the owner [21:29] in terminal. if you open a terminal it will be in your users home. [21:29] ya i know a lot about terminal;
